2014 Pirates thread

It is always a good day when they beat the Red Legs. Where I grew up you were either a Bucs or Reds fan. Glad to see we are getting some great pitching lately.

If Lambo can hit at the top of the order............

Tomorrow will be tough hopefully the good Liriano shows up. Maybe its time to break out the Cueto chants again.

They were hanging around at 1.5 games out for a good bit before they fell apart. Hopefully they can at least take this series and move on

The difference between now and then...is that they are healthy now..

Good job by Hurdle keeping this team focused through that tough stretch...

They are playoff baseball hardened this season...I got a good feelin...

The battle for that last wild card spot is really quite the battle between some teams playing really lousy baseball.

3 game sweep by the birds probably just sunk the Pirates' ship for 2014.

In the context of the division, it probably was a fatal blow, as, barring a complete collapse from a division leader, a five game deficit is almost impossible to overcome with less than a month left in the season.

The one thing they absolutely could not afford to do in St Louis was get swept, as even losing two out of three would have kept them a manageable three games out. It's reflective of what losers do.

They're still much alive for the wildcard, but that joke of a series does not exactly incite much confidence in their post season prospects.

that little spark from a bat or arm that they could have gotten for some much needed help is glaring now. The push that Marlon Byrd gave them or the attitude from Burnett last year is sorely lacking with this team. It was a mistake to stand pat and this is another losing streak they can't afford. If they think Chase D'arnaud is their answer, I will laugh at them, not with them.
They should have not lost any of the past four games. All very winnable, but that killer instinct is up and down,

You have to hang the Cardinals sweep on the offense.

Only the last game can be blamed on the offense.

If you score four or more runs in MLB, you should win. Cole and Locke epically **** the bed.

That was just a frustrating series in general. They hit well enough in the first two games, but could not pitch, and fail to score a single run in the game where the staff tosses a gem.

Way too many close losses this year. No matter who is to blame, it is why they are where they are right now.

The front office was content with the team that was fielded last season. NO improvements were made. They felt last years team was good enough, even though we still need a shortstop and first baseman that could hit more than .210. What was their answer? Trade for Ike ******* Davis. Big ******* deal. With 'Cutch and Walker being hurt and Alvarez just plain sucking, Harrison was the only one who stepped it up. Absolutely NO improvements were made to the pitching staff either. Our veteran leader is Cole, who had 1 year of experience. The FO sat on their hands while everyone else tried to make improvements.

Well, the next 12 games are against also rans. Then they have 7 games vs the two teams they are competing with for the last wild card. Need to win about 8 of the 12, and then it will be head to head with Milwaukee and Atlanta. While the Bucs are playing teams that are out of it, Milwaukee will be playing St. Louis 6 times, and Atlanta will be facing the Nats 6 times. This is the time to make some hay.

Yup, and I finally get to watch some baseball! I sometimes wish I were a Braves or Cubs fan so I could watch every game.

Bucs are off to a good start to the 12 game stretch vs teams out of contention. 10 more games, need to win 6 or hopefully more. If they do this, they should be in position to take the second wild card if they can edge Atlanta and Milwaukee head to head.

I expect that Atlanta will be the real threat here. Milwaukee is in a free fall, and their remaining schedule is very tough. After Sunday, they have to play 4 on the road vs a decent Miami team that is hanging on by a thread, 3 more in St. Louis, 3 in Cincy, then have to face the Bucs in Pittsburgh. Unless they suddenly get hot, this is gonna be lights out for them. If Atlanta can avoid getting swept in DC, they then have 3 games at Texas, before facing the Nats 3 times in Atlanta. This is followed by 3 home games with the Mets, before facing the Bucs for 4 at home. Baring a collapse by either team, or an unforseen hot streak, this series will likely decide the second wild card spot.

Bucs are taking advantage of the schedule, and are back in the lead for the second wild card.

Bucs continue to roll against the also rans. Atlanta and Milwaukee both lost.

if they got anything, we'll see it now.

if they don't make it, I won't be surprised.

hell, I'm more surprised they got to this spot.

The new batting coach should be getting some credit. The same players from last year are hitting a lot better.

I'd give him some credit, but I don't know his name. lol

McCutcheon needs to strap on Barry Bonds' old armor padding if they can find it in the back of the locker room.
I know Cutch is a nice guy but it's time for him to rush the mound and go all Ray Rice on the next pitcher who throws at him.
I blame Hurdle for not retaliating. Empty the ******* dugout next time and they'll quit doing it. Wuss. Dock Ellis is rolling over in his grave.

Hurdle has to be nervous about retaliating, since last time we threw at somebody, we put a superstar out for the year, and got Cutch hurt in retaliation.

Lol, I think Cutch goes about 5'9", 180. Most of the pitchers he faces are probably between 6'2" and 6'4" and 200+. .
