2014 Pirates thread

Not sure why hurdle pulled hughes last night unless he felt he has been overworked. Hughes, watson, wilson, and melancon (to some extent) are about our only capable relievers. I think melancon should pitch the 7th 8th and let watson or wilson close.

John Wehner pointed out that that the catcher Montero gave the sign to bean Cutch.....An extended middle finger pointed toward the MVP.

Another person commented that after the play Montero gave a thums up towards the bench.

That is such BS. Like Cutch said you don't pitch away making him think he has to extend then pitch at him intentionally trying to hurt him. You can see he is thinking outside and when the ball is released he dips toward the plate because of this. I think the Diamond backs should have to forfeit draft picks and the picther and catcher should be suspended. And none of this suspend the pitcher 5 days because he is on a 5 day rotation anyway. Suspend him 30 and take him out a month.

Today's edition of The Newspaper That Shall Not Be Named has an article quoting a doctor who said there is no way that getting hit by that pitch caused Cutch's rib injury.

So, what did? Did he break a rib on the swing when he went out of the game?
Sort of, it's called an avulsion fracture where some of the cartilage pulls off the bone. Only cure is rest.

Raise it.

for once, Melanson didn't make it interesting.

3 games no Cutch, no Walker, no Pedro.

16 runs.

And the Cards got crushed, and the Dodgers just took the lead on the Brew Crew.

Harrison and Polanco are swinging some hot bats, if we can get Cutch back in this lineup it could be a good finish to the season.

Apparently, the Padres are the only National League team to never lose a series at PNC park in the near 14 season history of park.

Despite how bad the Pirates have been most of that time, it's pretty amazing, given how the games have always been part of a cross continent road trip for the Padres.

I know this team pisses away a lot of opportunities, but the group we have put on the field the last week is playing some damn good ball. Marte, Polanco, Martin all coming up big!

Pittsburgh Lumber Company Crushed the Tigers. Chased Verlander out of the game by the end of the first and got 4 home runs, 2 from Snider.

Another Solid win against the Tigers.

It's looking like Pedro will end up at first base sooner rather than later.

I suspect he will DH the next two games. You have to get his some AB's. He can't get out of a funk pinch hitting.

Pedro is the most worthless player on the Pirates right now, can't throw can't hit. bad place to be for a guy during a pennant chase.
Bullpen gave away the game some tonight .

Morton has been hot garbage recently. He needs to get straightened out.

This recent slide shouldn't much cause for alarm, as they're in the process of getting people back healthy.

Awful loss. The bullpen is going to be the reason if the Bucs are at home this October.

yep and mgmt. for not addressing ANY needs with ANY real help. They are relying on what got them there to this point and you can slowly see the stitching unraveling. The bench is sad and Pedro really couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. Michael Martinez, Travis Snider and Gaby Sanchez wouldn't scare a women's softball team.

notice the 5 game losing streak started when Pedro was put back in the everyday lineup. his *** needs to find the bench ASAP

Since 1901, 4439 batters (non-pitchers), have been to the plate 400+ times. Michael Martinez ranks 4427th with a .185 batting average and 4421st with a .492 OPS.

Other than a bad stretch by Melancon last September, the bullpen was lights out last year. This year the blown saves have come frequently. If the bullpen was performing like it did last year, we'd have an 8 or 9 game lead.

Yeah, the refusal to address the bullpen was inexplicable, as there were several quality relievers that were dealt at or prior to the deadline.

Hopefully, this slide they're on isn't the beginning of an epic collapse on par with what we saw two years ago. It's not yet time to panic, but these upcoming series with the Braves and Brewers have huge post season implications.

Stick a fork in 'em - they're done. Time to turn your attention to the Steelers and Pens.
