2015 Pirates thread

Exciting game to watch, but it was a nail biter. Left too many base runners stranded. Shouldn't have gone into extra innings, but I'll certainly take the win!

Ok. That was a nailbiter, but a helluva win. Kershaw and Cole both had bad games. Our bullpen made the difference for a change

I would not say Cole had a bad start as 6 innings with 3 earned runs is the very definition of a quality start. He wasn't at his best, but the entire complexion of his start is different had Morse kept his foot on the bag on that two out play.

It does seem like the light is starting to turn on for Polanco. He's really cut down on the strikeouts and is starting to regularly drive the ball for extra bases.

Another pitch that had an impact is when he let one get away and plunked Kershaw.

Liriano was definitely off his game today. Hitting his first homer for three runs definitely helped his cause. BUT, that is two wins against the biggest payroll in baseball.

If Liriano is hurt to any meaningful extent, their World Series aspirations are pretty much over.

With that being said, it is very rare to see a starting pitcher complement such a poor pitching performance with three RBIs off his own bat.

It was both a fun and very frustrating game to watch.

There is always the option to break the fire alarm and call up Glasnow. He probably needs more seasoning and we surely don't wanna have him use any days of service, but he'll be on the playoff roster I bet. They'll use the type of injury add type thing that the Rays did when they promoted Price in 2008 and he was added in the last minute to pitch in the series.(assuming such an exemption still exists)

down 5-3 going into the bottom of the 7th, all of a sudden they are up 12-5? Damn! that's what they get for hitting Pirates batters 3 times, Kang hit twice. Cervelli even hit the ball off the Rotunda. Pirates are the Sweep Kings!

Made up for the lack of the offense by the Steelers. Great finish to the game and the series.

Holy freaking bleep. What was Mattingly thinking, leaving Johnson in that long? What ever it was, thanks!

I would have never have dreamed that they would have scored 13 after going to bed when they were down 5-3. Total shocked that they blew the doors that wide open. On ESPN, to boot. . .

That's why I like living in the Central Time Zone. Everything wraps up earlier in the evening. Wait - the game wasn't that late last night, did you have to put your dentures in a glass next to the bed too?

When is Cole going to deck Pedro....He is horrible.

And god love Aramis for trying, but Josh can't get back soon enough

Pirates are red hot, winning 14 of their last 19. Got to be frustrating for Chicago, as they are absolutely on fire, but have struggled to make up ground on either the Bucs, or the Cards, who also continue to win at a high rate.

Another sweep in the Books! good timely hitting.

Have to take care of the DBags then a tough series with the Giants.

The stat disclosed the other night over telecast is one of the most frustrating that I've seen/heard.

Since the start of May, the Pirates have the best record in baseball, yet during that span, they've gained only three games (still five games back) on the Cardinals. That's just ridiculous.

It's looking like a terrible start/April is going to cost the Pirates two years in a row.

I just do no know how the Cardinals do it. They have a below average offense with good, but not dominant, starting pitching, yet they're well on pace to win 100+ games this season.

Perhaps there is more to their cheating that has been conveniently swept under the rug.

To me... the Cards never make the fundamental mistakes or at least they keep them to a minimum.

Our Bucs seem to have more than an acceptable amount of fielding/throwing errors and base-running blunders than you would expect from a championship caliber team.

Additionally, we seemed to have gotten away from manufacturing runs via the bunt, hit-run plays and effective sacrifices, albeit a little better of late.

We just seem to always be going for it and that is great when it works out, but stings when it doesn't which is for too often.

The Cards seem to play steady and conservative, almost waiting for the other team to make the mistakes that turn close games into their wins.

Jeff Locke .... I .. do .. not .. like/trust .. him. Always seems like he's the guy that when the Pirates have something good going .. ends it with his crappy *** pitching. Momentum killer.

I feel like they might go Walker at 1b next year or it's possible they will just go with 2 veteran schlubs until Josh Bell passes the super 2 deadline.

You could really make a strong case for going 8/50ish on Bell next spring so he can break camp as the opening day 1b.

(To whomever was wishing we had a real 1b)

That was me. Trouble is, they need a good first baseman NOW. Pedro is really hitting good now, but his defense sucks. Rodriquez is good defensively, but his hitting is spotty. So Hurdle has to choose very night whether to have hitting or defense basically at first. If Bell lives up to expectations, that's one less head ache next year.

Is someone planning on taking grounders at first? Bat or no bat I can't see playing Kang over Mercer at SS
