2015 Pirates thread

Cole isn't even arb eligible til after next season, my guess is he won't be traded until after 2017 at the earliest as his arb # will still be something like 10-13m the first year

OMG, the bullpen is sucking so bad lately. Thanks Watson, way to blow a four run lead.

Hughes has been the only decent bullpen arm this last month. Bastardo, Caminero, even Watson have been dissapointing of late.

I'd have to say no at this point. Unless one of the others went on DL. Fighting for that top wild card spot.

If he wins the Cy Young this year and follows it up with even a remotely comparable performance next season, you can at least double that 10-13mil estimation.

The Cardinals are not THAT good, especially relative to the Pirates. They're going to have a major slide at some point.

The question is whether the Pirates will be able to capitalize on the opportunity.

The Blue Jays are going for it.

Acquiring David Price after acquiring the game's top short stop.

I'm going off of the historical David Price arbitration settling figures. He didn't actually go thru the process, but his midpoints were 10/13/19 and those were for his 2nd-4th times in arbitration. Cole will be somewhere around 10-13 million in the first year because it's typically 40/60/80 of a market salary through the process. Even if his market is set at 30m a year, his arb # would be 12m/18m/24m I can at least see them paying the first arbitration figure but not the last two.

Coming off the Cy Young in 2012 and building on a super 2 figure of 4.3M only got Price 10.1 million in 2013 for his 2nd(of 4) arbitration years.

AJ is scaring the hell out of me right now. If he can't snap out of this funk, we are in trouble

Pitching salaries have been spiking rapidly in recent years. I'd be surprised if his first arbitration case yields less than 20mil. We'll see.

After three consecutive weak starts from Burnett, the Pirates need to pursue a starting pitcher today. There are still some good ones available.

Off subject a little but wanted to share my horrific experience going to that God awful twins game on the 29th. Count yourself lucky you can go to a pirates game anytime and not be forced to go thru the hell known as Minneapolis. So pregnant wife, two sons 4 & 6 and I decided to catch both games of the pirates vs twins this week. We stay at a hotel which is 3 miles away but the lite rail goes directly to the stadium. On the way to the stadium we have crack heads yelling, a guy rolling joints next to us and no one who speaks English in the car. So bad luck right. Watch the game, pirates win, yay. Get back on the train to see a black prostitute soliciting sex on the train but don't worry a Mackelmore looking white dude picked her up so it's all good. Get back to the hotel after midnight and go to bed. Now while there we saw 3 parking ramps next to the field. We assumed it would be event parking. Wrong. The mud ducks decided to build their baseball stadium downtown with NO parking for the stadium. So when it's a day game the downtown employees have all the parking filled up. Solution according to twins management? Take the train filled with the cesspool of human waste and hope you don't get killed.

I've been to many baseball stadiums and even though target field is a nice stadium the experience was God awful because of the piss poor city planning on it.

I THINK it's because of his defensive play. Only reason I can see

Tabata never caught on after he signed that monster contract. He got chances to perform and never did. With Polanco and Marte, there was no room for his mediocre bat and glove.

On a different note, Marte saved the game tonight in the 5-4 W against the Red legs with two highlight reel plays in left. I don't know what it is about the Reds, but they continue to give us fits. Byrd is killin' us!

Morse could be a solid bench guy I guess. 1b is going to be a dumpster fire until hopefully Bell can stabilize it next midseason.

Seems like Polanco has been pretty good since the break(> .800 ops) Hopefully he can keep producing.

Watson wasn't doing a lot better in the eighth. Thank God for Soria and Melancon. That trade with Detroit looks better and better, maybe it was worth Jones.

Ok. That was a nailbiter, but a helluva win. Kershaw and Cole both had bad games. Our bullpen made the difference for a change
