2015 Pirates thread

Classic Ground Chuck!

Morton has been terrific, but he needs to stay healthy. The guy always seems to injury himself at some point.

Cole a lil on the wild side still gets 9Ks and his 8th win. And he scored 2 runs without getting a hit

Pittsburgh Lumber Company! nice run support for A.J.

It's good to see that they can win without a great outing from their starting pitching. They made up for some of those great starts from Burnett they wasted earlier.

McCutchen is shaping into form, and Alvarez continues to develop his opposite field hitting.

Marte, however, has gone as cold as a nun's nasty after an MVP-caliber start. He is a very frustrating player, as just when one thinks he has turned the corner, he goes into an epic slump where he seems oblivious to the strike zone.

Another sweep

They took 2 of 3 from the Braves! Cole first NL 9 game winner

It sucks that Cole will never sign a second contract with the Pirates.

There is a huge payday in that kid's future.

they should try to sign him now to lock him up like they did with Cutch and Marte.

There is no prospect of that happening with that shark Scott Boras as Cole's agent and the type of money top starting pitchers are making on the open market these days.

Yeah, they won Friday nite. Then yesterday, my oldest son and I drove from Panama City to Atlanta and caught Sat. nite's game - it was an early Father's day present - he bought tickets down the 3rd base line, 5 rows back and he did all the drivin' - I was just along for the ride - they lose in a walk off. We drove home today, Bucs win in a shutout. Take 2 of 3 from the Braves and the one game we go to, they lose. Guess I need a new rally hat, or jersey or somethin'!

This is correct. That is just the way things work. You just can't give a pitcher the kind of money he's going to command. This is where Tallion's injury may be a break for the Bucs. If he is still the prospect everyone thought he was, he should be hitting his stride just about the time Cole walks out the door. If the Bucs are contending during Cole's last year, you keep him and take your shot, like they did with Bonds. If the team is not doing well, you move him at the trade deadline.

Don't the Pirates have Cole thru 2019 and he hits FA in 2020? I think he's only making $500K a year right now...who's to say he wouldn't be open for a big raise for an extra year or two? Not a MLB contract guru so not sure exactly what benefits the Pirates. I am willing to bet AJ put his two cents in on pitching for a team like the Pirates versus the microscope in places like NY or Boston.

Cole was downright filthy yesterday! How is he not being mentioned for the starting job in the All Star game??

If Cole continues to pitch like this, he's going to get a big raise anyway through arbitration during the last few years of his contract.

MLB easily has the most pro-player CBA among the four major sports. No cap, every ******* dime is guaranteed, and the arbitrators tend to be very generous to the players.

Biggest problem is that you can't keep him until 2019 if you want to get a good return in a trade.
Would at least have to trade him at beginning of 2018 or possibly trade deadline 2018.

If they're still winning, they'll hold on to Cole until the end, as a championship is the ultimate objective.

If they take some steps back, which is possible if a lot of the promising young players (Polanco, Bell, Hanson, Taillon, Glasnow) do not pan out, they'll most definitely move him for prospects in the 2018 timeframe.

Just when it looked like they were turning the corner, they lose consecutive games to a weak Brewers team, wasting good starting pitching in the process.

The offense is just bad right now.

Swept the Phillies, Cole with 10 wins and MLB leading ERA and 2 walk off wins in extra innings

Have to get the hitting going. Facing two lefties this series so that always hurts their hitting. Good that they are playing a bad white Sox team next.

Hamels pitch a great game, as did AJ! He would look great in B&G, but his salary is too large for the Bucs. I hope the Cards don't go after him.

The hitting sucks.

Walker has had a terrible year, and they really miss Martin in the middle of the lineup.

The pitching and fielding will have to carry them to a Wildcard because they cannot hit like the Cardinals can in the division.

Pirates Dealt out a Big Time *** Whooping tonight! top 7 guys in the lineup all got 2+ hits. Liriano was dealing with 12 K's and 8 shutout innings. the Pirates have a shutout in 4 of the last 5 games.

5 shutouts in 6 games! Ground Chuck looking great. 30 consecutive shutout innings. Cervelli has caught 50 consecutive shutout innings. The Pitching staff has been downright untouchable!

The pitching has just been ridiculous.

Obviously, one cannot expect it to remain THIS good the rest of the season.

The offense will need to pick up more of the slack at some point, last night's 11 run outburst notwithstanding.
