2018-19 Penguins and NHL Offseason

it's really an issue. His numbers wouldn't allow him to stay in net for the baby pens.

I don't think Murray is going to improve anymore.
It's gonna be a long winter

soooo, if nothing changes and they continue to be undisciplined and dropping games, when is Sully on the hot seat? I really like Sullivan and don't want him gone, but who goes next to get traded? The PK is really bad, our goalies are mediocre and we can't put two wins together. With Quenneville out there, I am curious what GMJR is thinking right now.

Sullivan commanded respect when he first came in.
The team has went back to their undisciplined ways. Who knows what's going on? But it does seem like Sullivan's message is not getting across

During the cup runs. The Pens had a strong bottom 6.
This year not so much. That's what is missing.

Yea we are back to the days of hoping Sid and Geno's lines score goals and I hate to say it but this might be the beginning of the downhill slide for them too.

The overwhelming speed element they had with the 2 cup runs is gone....And what does Rutherford do? Get rid of one of the fast guys.....I know Haglin wasn't scoring but he has had chances.

A month and a half ago if someone told you one of the Pittsburgh teams is going to be in the basement of their division who would you have guess it would be? lol

So, do we go with Jarry and DeSmith? It's getting to the point that I expect a loss when he's in the net. Does he have trade value? (I know, now I'm not a real fan).

His situation is surprising.

The funny part is they are in last place in the league right now. LOL.

Sid out, Hags traded. Perfect opportunity for someone to step up. Horny did some but nothing from anyone else.

Murray, as much as he used to be awesome. Is no longer an NHL caliber goalie. Fixing his head is going to be a project and I wonder if it can be fixed. Should have gone with DeSmith last night and brought Murray back against Buffalo on Monday. TBL have to many skilled players. The outcome was inevitable.

Sprong- Park his *** in the left face off circle and tell him to shoot every time he touches the puck. Sully needs to drop his ego on this kid. Being scratched and only playing 8 minutes a game isn't going to show his trade value.

Sully- His ego cost us last year. Reaves and Cole were prime examples. A slide like this has to have him under the microscope. There will be more changes and he may well be one.

There is still a ton of hockey left. No way am I tossing in the towel. I trust the organization will right this ship.

So they are saying that Sids injury might be similar to what Letang's was. If he is out for any length of time I think we can stick a fork in any type of playoff run this year......

Yikes! Hope not

I like Murray, but I agree with others. I think mentally he's just done. I hate to say it, but it may be smart to trade him. Also, trade Maatta and Brassard. Even when healthy, Brassard has done NOTHING. I REALLY miss Bonino and Sheary.

On the positive side, I really liked Rust's effort last night, he was hustling. If we weren't committing such stupid penalties, we would've won.

I haven't seen anything that he will be out about a week ? Did you see/hear another report ?

Wasn't anything definite. Was listening to the Fan and Cook mentioned something about it possibly being a herniated disc in his neck earlier.

Cook, not always the best source but his does have more insider info than we do. I really hope that isn't the case. Thanks for getting back !

Brassard is a game time decision today. With Sid out, it's time for him to prove he is not a bust.

The trade at the end of the season last year seemed to put the team in a funk that they have just never recovered from. We never really addressed out defensive problems and Murray has regressed since he came back last year. Murray was never a flashy steal the game goalie, but he was very solid and steady. Now he cant stop anything. DeSmith is playing better than Murray, but I wouldnt say he is #1 goalie. We have bad defense, bad goal tending, and we dont have many of the grinder type players. It makes for a bad combination. I would try to find a true defensive defensemen and pick up a couple gritty players. Not sure what to do about the goal tending other than give Jarry a chance.

Agreed Jitter, but I still have hope that Brassy can be something.

The team was coming along just great before trading Cole and Reaves.
I agree that they haven't been the same since.

Sheahan's line last season with a guy like Reaves on the wing made him a lot more confident to be a grinder.
Defense was showing some concern when they won the cup in 2017. There were times when Dumoulin and Hainsey saved on playing smart/simple.

That's our problem:
1: No real bottom 6 production - no grinders either like a Reaves, Kunitz
2: cute play. The team has gotten away from it's simple approach that made them great in 2016

Yeah. The "pass first" offensive model is lame
