Here's my take on JMFJ. The Pens have a solid history of making struggling defensemen better. He had the pedigree to be at least #5, Hell, the guy was drafted 3rd overall. He played 82 games, averaging 19 minutes last year with 147 blocks and 233 hits. He only ended the year at -4. If he didn't make $3.25M and for the next 4 years there wouldn't be so much bitching. This is the risk you take when you mortgage the future in "win now" mode.
I complained louder than most on the guy. He had amateur pedigree but has only had one strong season since 2012. I still believe like most, that this was done with blind hope and as a favor to Sid. That said, He wasn't the reason the team fell flat last year and wouldn't be this year. It was a mistake, you make them, you move on.
