I mixed it up a little. JJ has some unknowns but I think he fits what Smith likes to do on offense. I prefer to pull the trigger this year compared to next at QB.

When I looked at D-line prospects I came away underwhelmed overall from this class.

I targeted players who I thought had a solid chance to be productive pros.

Without shoring up the OL, no QB is going to make much of a difference. C, RT and maybe another WR in the mix.
On defense CB, NT, S, and ILB are more of a need, or even an edge. And lets not forget they still need a punter.

Try to resign Mason and maybe a late round camp arm.
And if I'm Smith, I'm on the phone to Munch, won't happen, but it should.

Unfortunately, I think that “Munch” rumor has fizzled out.

I wonder, are we sticking with our same OL coach?

We need the best center in the draft. If we truly want to be a run 1st team, we cannot settle

I view C as more important than some might. I want that pocket clean where the QB stands. That is the shortest route to the QB. Plus it also was arguably the weakest part of the Steelers O-line last season. Teams will always look to exploit your biggest weakness or at least should. We also know that can help open up your running attack as well.

Picking 20 is right around the range where you are getting a BPA value at the position. We could debate RT and CB might look better depending who is on the board. If they don't get one of the two Cs in 1 because of going in another direction they should IMO be aggressive in 2 and trade up to not leave anything to chance. There is two Cs I feel they need to take this approach with.

Sweat from TX got noticed at the combine. If we could pull off a Sweat at NT and one of the premier OCs in the 1st 3 rounds, I'd be amped. Toss in a solid CB and RT (and a ILB) and I'd be OK with waiting another year for a legit QB prospect. If we could knock out 3 of our needs I'd be happy. (Yes, I know I listed more than 3).

Little concerned with Sweat. He hasn't slimmed down and he is carrying a lot of weight. A lot. Combine that and the fact the Steelers only use their NTs seldom and I would have to pass on him. Plus they have Benton...

Sometimes heavy guys work out once they are on a team, following their program, etc. Hampton used to come in heavy/out of shape all the time to start the season, right? And I like Benton, I think he was a good draft pick, but from what I can tell, they are not thinking he is a NT prospect at this point, from what I see/hear. Maybe more of a beefy DE type like we used to draft. Maybe a Cam type, who technically plays end but they keep calling him a DT for whatever reason.

But of course you could be right: Sweat could end up being too heavy. Not an exact science at this point: You could have had a "wish sandwich." A "wish sandwich" is where you have two pieces of bread and wish you had some meat. A bow, bow, wow."

I would pick up a CB,C, RT, and QB in free agency.

Focus on defense:

20. Cooper DeJean, CB, Iowa
-Get another stud to play opposite of Porter.

51. Zach Frazier, C, West Virgina
-Starting center of the future.

84. Javon Bullard, S, Georgia
-Keep the Georgia pipeline going, future starter at safety.

120. Mehki Wingo, DL, LSU
-Later that I had hoped, but young depth for the DL.

121. Junior Colson, LB, Michigan
-Hopefully this Michigan LB performs better than the last one.

197. Joshua Cephus, WR, UTSA
-Taking a chance on a receiver late

238. KT Leveston, OT, Kansas State
-I wanted to come out of this draft with two OL
Nice!
Ive been thinking about DeJean as our number one ....kid is a baller for sure!
Frazier is my choice over the Oregon kid also..

Top to bottom ...nice selections.

Good draft. Fiske is a guy who could be very good in this defense.

PFN uprated their board: No trades is ok but with trades is much better.

What team do you work as the GM for? You spend so much time on it.

This is a draft simulator thread, not an Ebeef thread to blow off steam. Everyone in here spends time pretending to be a GM. That is why the game exists.

But I thought some of us were really really GMs.

I have not paid a whit of attention to the combine, pro-days, etc. Did not even know the combine had taken place to be honest. The "quest for 9" has that effect. I basically did a draft knowing little about most of the prospect lists so I drafted a couple guys I know and then just took shots at the rest, following the rating system by the mock, got the following:

2025 NYG 1st

Traded down and got a 1st round pick in 2025, still got a good CB and very solid C. (I actually watched these two guys last year, know they are good at positions of need.) The WR is supposed to be good and I like Milton, though he is going to have to get stronger to play in the NFL.
