I thought we went into complete turtled mode in the 2nd half with our 10 point lead and a Denver offense that was horrible. They simply didn't want our O to turn the ball over. And eat the clock.

I hear yaz Steelmann, but also take into account the yard losing penalties. Some great throws and yardage was lost due to those penalties. I don't have the totals, but suspect you could add 50+ to that total had the penalties not been assest.


Justin is ahead of the Pickett, as far as I can tell. (speculation of course)

Frazier said they went with 6 man rushes v 5 in the first half. We couldn't throw the ball well enough to get them out of the box. The dink and dunk needs to be extended and they need to use the middle of the field more. This offense isn't there yet.

Steeler coaches would have noticed this during game; simple response should have been quick passes into the voids created by the extra rusher.

Frazier was quoted by a reporter stating that was the difference between the halves. I am sure the coaches saw it and maybe they did adjust and the penalties hurt them getting better situations for down and distance.

They still ran 22 up the gut on most 2nd half 1st down plays. Once to 30, one incomplete pass as I recall. Maybe one rollout run to Fields, but at least 6 times Najee up the gut. One got 10 yds, the others all +/- 2 yds.

A screen shoulda worked against a 6 man rush...

A screen, a bootleg out; anything to shake up that defense. Its like watching the team with Duck but with a much more athletic QB who has a cannon and they won't release him.

I'm not saying let him sling it 30+ times like Ben used to but if he can open up the defense by all means move the ball downfield and get more points on the board.

Ya Drink,I mentioned that lost yardage in another posting. But of course all QB’s go through that every game,not just ours.
Bottom line is 117 yards won’t get us far. And I don’t blame it all on Fields. I am sure the yardage will improve,it’s only the second game. I mentioned that 11-0 start…I remember posting we had to be the worst 11-0 team in history and I got flack for that. Think I even started the fools gold on that start. I kept on thinking….wait till it matters and we actually play a good team when it actually matters. We have basically been competitive for years and years. Until it really matters.

I kind of chuckled yesterday. We all got quite excited ( I was giddy) because they actually threw a TD in the first quarter,and used a TE to do it. This is how low our expectations have gotten over the last 5 years. And then proceeded to get a whole 6 points for the rest of the game. I mean man oh man. Is this really how the script is going to play again? We are certainly gluttons for punishment.

For sure we did. This offense will be a work in progress with all the new players and new OC. With the tough final stretch to our schedule it's vital we win these early games while we're working out the kinks. Honestly I think some people would rather have us throw for 350+ and lose.

100% agree Steelmann, it’s the nature of the beast. Tomlin has his scheme and we have seen first hand how things will go regardless of OC or QB. Those that think Russ is going to come in and open this O up, might want to rethink that a little.

The 300 - 500+ yard passing games have long left the building, about the time #7 left and even then Tomlin was chipping away at him.

We do need to Win now so as when our offense strengthens so does the schedule. This current offense will NOT last against a team that can score. Playoffs have been a joke, and for good reasons as stated in your post.

Unless our D can hold every team to 13 points or less, we will be blown out more often than not.
