A Tomlin special - is ANYBODY surprised by this embarrassing outing?

I’m not so sure they’ll beat the Pats. We have no serviceable ILB’s. All they have to do is throw in the middle of the field and they will be successful. There are no gimmies left. Not after today.
Darth Hoodie is SALIVATING right now.

Groundhog Day ll is coming your way this Christmas. In this epic tragic comedy, Bill Murry and Andie MacDowell reunite as Pittsburgh Steelers fans settled in Punxsutawney Pa. who keep reliving Sunday, December 3, 2023.

Horton did it iirc… to coordinator I mean… and technically Flores did too… though that gets an asterisk… a couple of his assistants ended up as college HC’s… but only Arians became a nfl HC… and he definitely gets an asterisk
You are correct. After being a defensive backs coach in Pittsburgh at last SB. Horton was DC for 4 teams before becoming HC of the Pittsburgh Maulers and famously cutting player for complaining about food options in the team cafeteria.

And if you think of 4-7 HCs fired per year and 4-7 Coordinators elevated and vacating positions plus another 4-7 coordinators fired that's roughly 15 vacant upward mobile positions per year x 15 years that 225 opportunities in which one legit Tomlin guy got a job.

The pats will beat the Steelers somehow. Mike Tomlin will not be on the hot seat

this is a pattern with Tomlin. They have a win, then get real pleased with themselves and lay an egg vs a crap team.

Don;t worry, the pattern will still hold. Play great on a national TV game, Tomlin gets praised as one of the greatest coaches of all time. They'll probably beat up on the hapless Pats on Thursday and go right back to thinking everything's fine.
Well, ya. That will be the all-important win 8 (and let's not stop holding out hope for that TIE!)

Its worse than just he can’t teach…

Players regress here…

Claypool was at his Best his first year here
DJ has progressively gotten less effective here
Virtually every DB regresses here…
Oline too…

We make players worse
In terms of Claypool, JuJu, D.J. etc, you have Kenny Pickett, (a perfectly fine QB). Or some other perfectly fine QB throwing to them opposed to a 1st ballot H.O.F guy who covered up team warts for more than a decade.

Of course they're going to regress.

This board has been saying it for years.

I think Tomlin could just retire and be set financially and give the Steelers a fresh start. The Steelers need a new direction and an x’s and o’s guy who can put this team’s strength’s to proper use. The team has talent but is severely being destroyed by improper coaching.

I think the guy is a smart guy outside of football. His Tomlin-isms are best used as motivational speaking at community events.

Joe Starkey had a good column in today’s PPG about the Steelers ongoing mediocrity where he mentioned that in the past 13 years, the Steelers have fewer playoff wins than the Houston Texans, have been outscored in 4 of the past 5 seasons and have a negative point differential of 116 in the 46 games since the beginning of the 2021season.

The worst was putting your generational talent in a game injured where you are done. Don't care what player says. You protect him.
It's not like this is something new from Tomlin. You may recall the 49ers game back in 2011, when Ben was wearing a walking boot the whole week prior to the game for a bad ankle. He was getting pummeled by an aggressive San Francisco defense all night. The Steelers have been completely dominated, and are losing 20-3 with 2 minutes left in the game. MT actually sends Ben hobbling out there to start a drive from their own TWELVE yard line with no timeouts left, drops him back to pass three times, and punts it away after Ben got hammered yet again on third down and fumbled.

There's just no explanation for that level of stupidity and/or stubborness from an NFL head coach.

This is one of my least favorite things about Tomlin.. he has absolutely no long term vision… he plays one game at a time… which leads to lots of regular season wins and a broken team at seasons end…

Many of our injuries come at the end of games that are either blowouts, which is just stupidity personified, or games tgat are close at the end because of strategic blunders… which is just infuriating…

Watt, last year, should never have had to be on the field when he got hurt… playing bullshit football with the big lead they had led to that nonsense

Unless it's 2017 and Tomlin is no national TV talking about Steelers vs Patriots part 2 prior to playing JAX in a playoff game, he was looking ahead there. ;)

True.

I think that the 2011 San Fran game was the genesis of my realization that Tomlin wasn't as good a coach as everyone thought. I was just dumbfounded that he kept putting Ben on the field like that. Down three scores with two minutes left and no timeouts. They'd only put 3 points on the board all night, and were on the 12 yard line. Watching Ben hobbling around getting absolutely lit up for no reason whatsoever in a game that was clearly over...that was eye-opening for me.

I will tell you too. There is something fishy about Watt's injury. He was in agony on sideline. They put a spat tape job on his ankle and he was gimping around out there. 4vdays later he is not only playing but not on injury list.... bullshit.
