All bullshit & fighting aside, what is final record?

I am one who gives the benefit of the doubt. Until the doubt exceeds the benefit. Tomlin is near, very near.

When we **** off this easy 2014 schedule, and we will, there won't be much left to argue about...

Tomlin is football stupid.

I don't see how we can do worse than 9-7. we have a very very weak schedule.

The second point is true, but the first is not. Tomlin's teams have repeatedly lost to vastly inferior opponents - teams which wind up 5-11 and are outscored by 170 points (the 2012 Raiders), or 4-12 and are outscored by 130 points (the 2013 Raiders), or are QB'ed by Brandon Weeden (the 2012 Clowns), or are QB'ed by Terrelle Pryor (the 2013 Raiders).

I realize that it is difficult to keep remember how incredibly horrible some of these losses were, but it is important to keep that point in mind. A coach who somehow loses to the 2012 and 2013 Raiders, Brandon Weeden, and Terrelle Pryor over the span of 32 games has some serious, serious deficiencies. I think he just does not impart a sense of urgency and demand attention to detail when the upcoming opponent is terrible.

Meanwhile, the opposing coach is demanding preparation of his overmatched players, and the result is that the undermanned, crappy opponent outplays the much-better but uninspired Steelers.

How many times are we going to watch the Steelers simply sleepwalk through the 1st quarter of a game, fall behind 10-0 or 14-0, before we understand that the problem begins with the head coach.

When I look back at some of those absurd loss', I'm thinking at the time, these players just don't got it. Now when looking back, I think these players are lackidazical, similar to their coach. Anything is possible, maybe Ben brings a little more urgency to these guys and they find sense sooner. We will see what happens, but losing to losers, makes us losers.

First I am not a Tomlin fan and did not like the hire, he did not have the pedigree. I really believe the Rooneys thought he could develop as a coach while he was working with a very talented team that was one season from winning a championship from the wild card spot. I think he has been overwhelmed because he did not have the experience of Noll or Cowher when hired. He has had to learn the job on the fly and his growing pains turn into seasons with less than what we as fans have come to expect in terms of a record. To really effect change in the team is likely to require 2 or 3 seasons worth of drafts. They have not been going well since he arrived. This years picks looked better than some in the not to distant past but it is still early. Tomlin may grow into the job and become a decent coach or he may proceed like Kordell who had lots of promise but was unable to take the last step to greatness. I do not think he has what it takes to make the next step. I never remembered Noll or Cowher looking like they did not know what was going on in a game, by comparison Mike has the confused WTF happened look a lot on the sidelines. We will find out if he can make the next step in the next 2 seasons and I would be surprised if the Rooneys don't give him the chance. I don't think he does and his replacement will arrive with us picking very high in the draft.

Tomlin isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Even another 8-8 season won't change that. The Steelers are all about stability and long tenured coaches. IMHO he is safe for at least 2 more years.

What cracks me up is most here assume week 1 against the Clowns is an easy win. I don't know about that. Nothing comes easy with this team. Another 0-4 start is quite possible from what I saw the other night. Right now I'm thinking we are an 8-8 team.

I think this season will come down to lance moore.....A.Brown should be the focal point of any D and will be double/triple teamed most games. Wheaton is still too raw i believe to be a major factor so that leaves moore. If moore can find the soft spots it should take some pressure off wheaton and brown...As that goes the offense goes. I think the offense should at least give us a chance to be in games...the d needs major work right now...i see us at 9-7 or 8-8

Its a sign of the times (and sad, for me anyways) that all we talk about is the defense and the passing game. I know the NFL is now a pass-first league and we have to talk more about the passing game, but there is hardly any talk about the running game. Doesn't anyone think the Doobie Brothers will be any good this year?

The running game becomes irrelevant when you are playing from behind. So most are assuming the defense is going to blow again this year. So you're left with Ben having to score a butzillion points just to keep up.

During camp I seriously thought this Steeler team could go 11-5. After watching the Eagles game, Tomlin's deer in the headlights look and Troy ranting; there's something wrong with this team. I think this team could easily go 7-9.
What is disturbing is the run blocking. I thought Mike Munchak was going to at a minimum make improvements to the run blocking and rebuild the running game as a formidable weapon.
I am holding out hope that the Eagles game was an aberration over the distraction of the "Doobie Brothers" silliness in Ross Twp.
If that is the case, then the team is screwed, what will they do when something really catastrophic happens?

I think the preseason is a waste of ******* time and the fans money. what crap.

the eagles do habitually kick the **** out of the steelers though. so there's always that.
i could see either 7-9 or 9-7.
(they couldn't possibly go 8-8 again)

Money is right!

Should be cheaper to go to preseason games, not regular price...******* crooks

Occasionally someone asks here how much they should pay for tickets to a preseason game and the general consensus is that anything higher than free is too much.

I take solace in the fact that after that Eagles *** kicking in 2008 when we gave up what....9 sacks?!?.....that I didn't think that we would finish with a winning record, let alone win the division, make the playoffs, play in the Super Bowl and become the NFL's only 6 Time World Champions.

This is a Big year or Tomiln, I for one do not believe that ART2 has the patience of the Old Man, last years finish gave me hope for 2014, but last weeks Double Whammy gave me bad gas.

I'm going for 10-6 our secondary hasn't improved and our linebackers will struggle in some games.

not an easy win.

As the memories go, just a reminder, that team was way way more talented than this team!!! Would love to be proved wrong, but don't think that will happen. I too am one that is worried about the browns game. I do think we win, but
not as easily as expected by some here.

Jesus, now yall have me paranoid about week 1.....if we lose that game I am going to start following cricket or lacrosse, because the season will be OVER

Gentleman and Ladies, for those of you old enough to remember, we're reliving the early 80's all over again. Bradshaw on the downslide of a stellar career, all the champions and greats are ending their careers and migrating off into the sunset just as Bettis, Ward, Dawson, etc have done recently. We are about to embark on a lackluster, mediocre decade with this new crop of players. We have become our parents, talking about those great years and the great plays and moments that will forever be ingrained in our memories. Our grandkids will grow tired of the shameless tales of Hines Ward's knock out power or Bettis's happy quick feet. This will be a sad next few years i'm afraid.

Holy crap... that is so accurate.

In reading through the entirety of the thread you can see where the pre-preseason posts are, then they just start getting more and more dire after the game against the Eagles. Kind of sad really...

My season prediction is 4-12. That pains me to say, but this team just doesn't seem like it has any fire at all. The offense is talented but vanilla. I'd like to be pleasantly surprised, but it doesn't look good.

An entire thread of bitching and moaning...

Man up, or feel free to jump on the SeaHawks or SF bandwagon

I don't think the season is lost, just going to be a lot tougher than some here think. My original prediction of 11-5 is still mine. Our defense & offense, will be much better than than the philly game. Not all out stop them all pro, but better. GAME planning will help. We do have some positives, along with some less than positive, but who doesn't. Has anyone ever thought that maybe they know this team to well? If we all had less knowlege, then maybe we'd enjoy it better.
