Archers 40 doesn't translate

The original post wasn't even about his production. It's about how he looks SLOW out there. I said it to my brother during the game... where's this world class speed we were supposed to see? It's not there on kick off's, it's not there on jet sweeps, or bubble screens. And if he isn't playing at 100%, why is he even active. When Bryant's shoulder is 100%, I really hope he takes Archers helmet on gameday's.

Well then how the hell would Antonio get open?

CLEARLY the coverage shifts to the sidelines where Archer is standing allowing Brown to run free like a gazelle in the savanna.

4.2 doesn't mean much on the field when there's no hole to run through. And you don't return kicks.

But andrewjosh made it very clear after the first preseason game that Archer had proven (yes, proven) he's a good NFL returner.

Then he spent all of Week One making Antonio look good.

Some of you just don't appreciate Archer. It's like all those gushing quotes from his college coach mean NOTHING.

The issue I have is that everyone was told how impossible it was to cover Archer. He's fast. He can't be covered by a LB or anyone. He is fast you know. He's a huge mismatch against anyone. Hell go look at the Archer thread and you'll see all the great predictions about how great he is going to be. He's unstoppable. Anytime someone brought up his injury history or the fact that NFL defenses can handle speed they were told Archer was different. He's really fast you know.

Indeed. I was one of the harsher critics of the pick. I ******* LOATHED it. I don't think he will amount to anything, but I'm not about to definitively say that he's a bust after 5 touches in his rookie season like JJ_Steel.

My posts were in response to JJ_Steel calling him a waste of a pick. I agree with what you're saying.

I never said he'd be a bust. I didn't like the pick because even if he is exactly what they wanted it was too high to pick him. He'll get a few touches a game and eventually break a long run. Maybe even a TD or two. But for a 3rd round pick in the deepest draft in years that's a high price to pay. This team needed depth and potential starters not a luxury pick for a guy that has no real position on the team.

No, I didn't say you were, just JJ_Steel. I'm with you.

He was picked to return punts which he can't do and never has done. He is a crappy KO returner and is nothing as a receiver or running back and has no real position. He is a bust because he was drafted in the 3rd round yet has 7th round talent.

Meanwhile, fellow midget De'Anthony Thomas had a beautiful TD catch today. If we were going to burn a pick on a gadget player, I wish we'd grabbed him.

I disagree that weaton is a "Bust". I think most football fans have little idea of draft pick value. 60 to 70 catches is a solid #2 receiver. Most years that will get you in the 30 to 40 ranking in the league and that includes RBs and TEs. For a third round pick getting a solid starter is good most years. Drafts are not equal. The above opinion is biased at best.

When folks dont like a draft pick, BOOOOY DO THEY SCREAM IT FROM THE MOUNTAIN TOP.................and for all eternity until said player is cut..and even then they still harp on how they hated the pick.

My motherfuckin gawd....let it go. Such a ***** festival around here........*****, snivel, ***** !!!

I just can't understand how you make that pick in the third round when you know you have a secondary so devoid of talent? A good corner has the potential to be on the field for damn near half the game, while a guy like Archer might see five snaps... on a good day. It doesn't make sense.

For a 3rd round pick.....that production sucks.

This has GOT to be the only place on the entire ******* internet you'll see the term "3rd round" and "bust".

Go read that goddamn thread

Didn't care for the pick but here we are. I think a big part of the problem is the offense as a whole. When Archer is in D's can key on him exclusively because the offense just isn't scary or unpredictable enough to keep them honest.

The problem I see with Archer is they aren't utilizing him correctly. If he is in the game he is probably the first option in that play. I would rather use him as a bait until the defense doesn't key on him then try to get him the ball. What I think would work is fake a bubble screen to Archer and have Wheaton go out like he's going to block and have Ben pump fake and when the DBs get past Wheaton have him run a fly pattern and have Ben hit him in stride. That should leave the safety as the only one who can stop Wheaton for the TD. Also, I'd bring him into the game and when I put him as a RB do a play action with two simple reads from Ben. AB/Wheaton deep and Heath over the middle. If the LB's and safety bite you go deep but if only the LB's bite and the safety and CB stay on the deep route you dump it off for a nice 10 yarder over the middle. Right now if #13 is in the game he's going to get the ball so key on him and Haley is too stupid to see that.

He's going to have to produce more than 3 yards per touch for defenses to start ******** themselves at the sight of Dri Archer.

They are keying on him when he is in the game. Mostly because when he is in the game they know he is probably getting the ball. If Haley would use this to our advantage and use him as a decoy it would loosen things up for him so when we actually give him the ball the entire defense doesn't all know he will be getting the ball.

Yeah, I don't see defenses keying on Archer. He had a bubble screen/swing pass type play against Jax where he was wide open. The CB came up from his zone and dropped him after a 5 yard gain. It was a case of a "fast" player not being able to shake a guy in the open field. Anyone of our WR's or RB could have made that play, some would have got more yards (Brown, Bell, Blount).
