Archers 40 doesn't translate

They are keying on him when he is in the game. Mostly because when he is in the game they know he is probably getting the ball. If Haley would use this to our advantage and use him as a decoy it would loosen things up for him so when we actually give him the ball the entire defense doesn't all know he will be getting the ball.

If that were the case, teams would just draft fast players and stick them on the field for 60 snaps a game to be a decoy. Defenses have seen speed; as insaniti just pointed out, they're not wringing their hands in fear of Dri Archer.

I see thing different. The defense knows he is getting the ball and at the snap are coming for him and of course we accomidate by giving him the ball. I would love if someone had a stat of snaps vs touches and targets for Archer. I wonder how many snaps he has had and how many of them he was either targeted or got the ball.

Three games played, 2 rushes for 6 yards, 3 receptions for 9 yards on 4 targets. 17 snaps on offense 13 on special teams (believe it or not, he's on the punt return team as a blocker)

The problem with Archer is that he can't really play RB or WR. He is limited at both positions, meaning you can't use him as part of the normal offense.

There is no run play that i would not rather Bell take the handoff, (or Antonio on a reverse).

There is no passing situation i would not rather a different WR.
any type of quick screen, i'd rather Antonio with the ball.
any play designed to get a WR in open space, i'd rather antonio, maybe even Wheaton. I'd even rather Bell split out at WR.
Kick Returns? How many are even returned these days?

Punt Return. This is the one are where i can see Archer making an impact. Antonio is great at it but he's so valuable now, i'd rather somebody else return punts. Unfortunately, Archer is apparently unable to return punts.

people always want these specialty players, but the truth is few of these guys truly make an impact. The ones who do are the ones who are actually capable of playing RB or WR aside from their specialty role.

Think Darren Sproles and Dexter McCluster. Sproles can actually play RB so he has been a very valuable player. McCluster can't play RB and he's not that great at WR. He's a specialty player and multiple teams and coaches have struggled to find him a role.

unless Archer can return punts and cover punts, i would rather Bryant be active on gameday. Bryant is a limited player, but what he can do is be a deep threat. I'd rather they throw 2 or 3 bombs to Bryant than do 3 Archer plays per week. Bryant could draw a pass interference penalty or make a big play.

Sort of like Sanders.

Sort of, except Sanders was exceptionally unreliable with drops and huge mental brainfarts. Not to mention he was horrid on deep balls and incredibly soft underneath. He's excelling now in Denver because there's never a defender with 8 yards of him.

While I am a little dissapointed in Archer's performance, I am not ready to write him off yet.
When He does get his touches its always a stupid screen pass that rarely works even with Brown. Or the handoff yesterday where the D lineman was on him before he got near the LOS. They need to give Archer a chance, not with these pathetic play calls and horrible blocking.
I blame Haley. They need to get this kid in some space. The touches that he does get, I am not so sure even Antonio Brown could make alot happen with because the defense knows where its going.
In all fairness, If fans want to start calling him out as a bust, I'd love to see what they have to say about our #1 and #2 picks? No rookies have contributed yet this season. If anything our run defense has looked much better since Shazier got hurt.

I say they have NFL profiles and talent. I'm willing to deal with their growing pains because they both show signs of being good NFL players and don't have near the red flags Archer does. (Not to mention they play positions that actually matter, unlike KR.) Archer is tiny, injury-prone, fumble-prone, and lacks experience. He looks lost even returning kickoffs thus far.

The air is getting colder. KR will be more of an impact position as the balls fail to sail.

and slow, which was supposed to be his claim to fame.

Speaking of wheaton,, and J. brown and Heyward bey.... wtf , its like ben is throwing it to Antonio or heath... or hes taking the sack..

That is the way Ben NORMALLY PLAYS. Yesterday was a different story though, as he spread it around VERY WELL.

Thanks. I am surprised he has played 17 snaps but I am not willing to throw the baby out with the bathwater with a total of 5 touches.

Wheaton is a bust? Which dip **** said that? He has been huge for the offense in 4 of 5 games this year. This game wasn't his best but I'll take 4 out of 5 very good games in a guys second season when he didn't really play his first season due to injuries.

He's actually played more, they haven't updated his snaps for the Jags game, but you can add at least 3 snaps to his total (he had 1 rush and 2 rec against Jax).

That's not true at all. It's very often that they put up graphics or mention that he's spread the ball around to people.

Last year he only had two games where he hit 5 receivers, in games against the Ravens and Bengals. The rest were 6-9 receivers.

Dri Archer played 5 snaps on offense against the Jaguars.

The problem I see with Archer is they aren't utilizing him correctly. If he is in the game he is probably the first option in that play. I would rather use him as a bait until the defense doesn't key on him then try to get him the ball. What I think would work is fake a bubble screen to Archer and have Wheaton go out like he's going to block and have Ben pump fake and when the DBs get past Wheaton have him run a fly pattern and have Ben hit him in stride. That should leave the safety as the only one who can stop Wheaton for the TD. Also, I'd bring him into the game and when I put him as a RB do a play action with two simple reads from Ben. AB/Wheaton deep and Heath over the middle. If the LB's and safety bite you go deep but if only the LB's bite and the safety and CB stay on the deep route you dump it off for a nice 10 yarder over the middle. Right now if #13 is in the game he's going to get the ball so key on him and Haley is too stupid to see that.

They had a play designed to go to Archer against Tampa Bay, but it was well covered. Instead, they went elsewhere and made a nice gain. I agree to use him as a secondary option until teams "forget" about him and then find him in open space.

This has GOT to be the only place on the entire ******* internet you'll see the term "3rd round" and "bust".

Joe

Wheaton was the 79th pick in his draft.....how foolish to have expectations for that besides 26 receptions in 21 games. Ignorance at its finest.

BTW other 3rd rounders in same draft, Keenan Allen, Tyrone Mattheiu, Terrance Williams, Mike Glennon, Knile Davis, Travis Kelce, etc

somewhere TMC in all his infinite wisdom is pointing to his draft guide and telling you that he ******* told you so

Enjoy your day in the sun Archer-bashers. He's played three games in his rookie year and you guys are already gloating. Not sure there's a prescription for what ails you.
