Art speaking now,

Wasn't it his son the other day that said they are happy filling seats? If so, it just doesn't look good for the Steelers as long as the Rooney's are still in control. I hope I'm wrong on this.

It was his brother who has no ownership in the team.

Third generation guys are always the weakest links... if things dont collapse around them, then the 4th generation guys either divest entirely or end up fixing stuff... just in general business... not specifically franchise owners...

Art sr founded the team...
Dan Sr perfected it
Art 2 tried to carry on the legacy in flawed manners
So what will Dan Jr do? Sell or fix things...

Dan Jr. has a shot at turning the ship around. A year or so ago he spouted off (fire & compassion) on the O’Canada thing and was not heard from since.

He has been groomed in all aspects of the team, bottom to top.

I think he was told to cool it and was also given a time-frame of his dad stepping down.

I think k that step down will directly correlate to Coach Tomlin’s exit.

I can’t wait for all the above to happen. Tomlin has soured this team / franchise / to no end and all done by the owner approval.

Win some games. Keep seats filled and they are happy. Above average is now the standard and the goal. Winning SB's is not the goal anymore. It is icing on the cake but not needed and the owners will be happy.
"Keeping the owners happy" equals the stands full and $ keep piling in from TV. That's it, that's all Rooney cares about, and it shows.

I listened to Art’s news conference and all I can say is I’m uninspired by what I heard.
The guy had no emotion in his voice. It was just like he’s going through the motions of being a reluctant owner.
Meaning, I don’t think he likes being the principle owner of this team. I don’t think he really ever wanted this and it just sounds it from his tone.
This Rooney was not passionate like his father and was more of on the business side of this franchise.
He should have been visibly upset and angry with how his franchise just finished the season in the fashion they did.
Getting blown out and embarrassed in four of the last five loses to end their season I would have expected more emotion and unhappiness in his tone. I think his happiest day is when he turns this over to his son. Hopefully the son is a better owner but I have my doubts.
They say by the 3rd generation of the guy who makes it is trash, spoiled, privileged, non-grinder. I guess that is what happened to Art II. Dan was still a motivated chap, but the team was not by the time Mr. Lawyer Art II took over. His only concern was the revenue coming in, not in championships. The outcome is predictable. It's as Art II doesn't even feel the need to apologize for the team's lack of drive. There is no championship drive left in them, period. They settle for a coach with a non-losing record, that's it.

Well at least he didn't pull a Tomlin lying to Harrison on us. He was honest about mediocrity being the standard.
Shameful.......The Chief is probably rolling in his grave.

The team ownership is about the money and increased value coming in. How the team does is really a distant concern. Money is all that really matters.

The fans are about being #1 more than the next team’s fans. Nothing more.

Did you really think he would anything other than what he said.

There's no way in hell he would eat those contracts of the coaches.
Could’ve listened to the Bears offer and shed $16million payroll

Could’ve signed Ben Johnson for $13…certainly any coach would take the Steelers lifetime appointment over the Bears

Easy math…save $3 million and get a fresh start

Yep, correct Slash they do. I’d like to see a breakdown of what the % the minority owners hold. Would be interesting!
Well Art II holds the league minimum of 30% of the team to retain controlling entities.

While this doesn't show who owns how much, this is who makes up the majority of minority ownership

So is the no trade clause in Tomlin's contract accurate information?

Who does that as a coach anyway? Weird.

Art seems like he doesn’t want to be there. Just going through the motions and doing his due diligence. I never felt like Art ever had the passion he should have had only assuming control because it was expected of him.
The guy simply shows no passion, emotion or even anger that his team resides where they are.
No owner would tolerate such mediocrity this long and playoff failures only this guy. Tomlin has become the Marvin Lewis that we would make fun of and even Mike Brown finally had enough of it.
I cannot stand listening to another bullshit session from Tomlin again nor the lifeless owner who just goes through the motions of being an owner.

Art II: We could see we weren't even close to the better teams in the league." That was somehow new info. to him.

Its the spin. All the lackeys are out bitching about the state of the roster... its BS.
Yeah there are positions like Wr and Dt that could ise another playmaker... but overall this roster is extremely compareable to contending rosters... even with the ? At QB

We have a coaching philosophy issue and Art 2 wont recognize it because he shares the same philosophy...

People think their issues stem from being cheap... that isnt the case... that was the other Rooneys who wanted money invested in their racetracks... the football Rooneys are just stubborn and set in their ways

In a digital world, they arent analog.. they are typewrites and snail mail... they may still use abacuses...
Dan pushed the envelope on front office and scouting philosophies and play-style modifications more than you think... Art is just trying to copy what he did... but the league evolved past all of that

Money post. The roster isn’t bad outside of a few holes and QB. The coaching staff doesn’t get the most out of the players because they aren’t coached up and play ultra conservative. After the first mistake they go full turtle mode. That style wouldn’t win when it counts even if we did have a franchise QB in place.

So, out of curiosity, I looked up on Steelers.com how many people are employed by the front office:
https://www.steelers.com/team/front-office-roster/
I counted over 270 people: administration (owners), the coaching staff, football operations, business office, trainers/medical staff, communications, IT, ticket sales, marketing/media, stadium and merchandising, and something called business analytics and corporate partnerships. Over 270 people employed, and I'd venture to guess many of those people (not named Rooney) are getting 6-figure salaries. I'd also venture to guess that some of those employees' jobs would be on the line if all of a sudden people stopped coming to Accrisure for games and not buying concessions, jerseys, parking passes, etc. Over an 8 or 9 home game season, that's beaucoup bucks. Think the Rooneys would care if they had to call people in and let them know they no longer have a job? I seriously can't think of any other way to get the owners' attention that Steeler Nation is fed up, and their refusal to make meaningful changes has devolved to what we see now.

Then again, TV money/revenue sharing being the mega-money monster that it is, my idea for a fan strike may be about as useful as **** on a bull.

Here's what I don't understand:

It seems to be nearly a consensus that the problem is the Rooneys are only about money, and not concerned with the product on the field. But wouldn't a better product lead to more revenue? Wouldn't another Super Bowl appearance help to create increased value for the franchise going forward?

The consensus is frustrated and looking for answers/reasons.
I think the idea that he is in it for the just the money is hogwash.

Rooney is a proud Pittsburgher. So deeply involved in the Pittsburgh community.
I have to believe there is nothing more he wants than to hoist another Lombardi for the city and its people.

I think he is convinced that firing Tomlin isn’t the way to do it.
