Art speaking now,

Money post. The roster isnā€™t bad outside of a few holes and QB. The coaching staff doesnā€™t get the most out of the players because they arenā€™t coached up and play ultra conservative. After the first mistake they go full turtle mode. That style wouldnā€™t win when it counts even if we did have a franchise QB in place.
I am convinced they could have pro bowlers at every position and still end with a mediocre record.

Just think about this wrap your head around this:

Tomlin and Austin will be back with their same scheme next season . Both of them, like nothing there needs fixing. They will continue to pour players into the broken hoping for a different result.

They will do their best to nullify anything Andy and Omar do.

Just today they were at the Senior Bowl practice zooming in on DL prospects.

This isnā€™t blasphemy! This is madness!

Here's what I don't understand:

It seems to be nearly a consensus that the problem is the Rooneys are only about money, and not concerned with the product on the field. But wouldn't a better product lead to more revenue? Wouldn't another Super Bowl appearance help to create increased value for the franchise going forward?
OK, so what is your question?

I listened to Artā€™s news conference and all I can say is Iā€™m uninspired by what I heard.
The guy had no emotion in his voice. It was just like heā€™s going through the motions of being a reluctant owner.
Meaning, I donā€™t think he likes being the principle owner of this team. I donā€™t think he really ever wanted this and it just sounds it from his tone.
This Rooney was not passionate like his father and was more of on the business side of this franchise.
He should have been visibly upset and angry with how his franchise just finished the season in the fashion they did.
Getting blown out and embarrassed in four of the last five loses to end their season I would have expected more emotion and unhappiness in his tone. I think his happiest day is when he turns this over to his son. Hopefully the son is a better owner but I have my doubts.
Maybe he does want to win championships but when a social justice rule is named for your family there is no way, NO WAY, he is going to fire the team's first black head coach, who BTW has never had a losing season, in case you didn't know.

It depends. It's a calculation that is made. Using Bob Nutting for example since baseball has smaller rosters and no salary cap, it would be fairly simple to hire better scouts and coaches and better FA players but he's obviously decided that the juice ain't worth the squeeze and he makes more money hovering around .500.
No one knows what the Pirates' net profit is but hypothetically if you asked Nutting if he'd rather have a losing season and make $10 million or win a World Series and lose 99 cents, he'd look at you like you had a third eye.
The Steelers spend up to the cap on players but except for Shades they go cheap on assistant coaches.
If there's empty seats at the games, Deuce doesn't give ****, they're still paid for and there's a 13 year waiting list for season tickets.

Pirates merchandise definitely sells. From a fan perspective we wonder how? But from a streetwear perspective the colors and logo appeal to a lot.

Then of course you start getting into street gang territory and all of a sudden colors and sports logos mean something beyond original concept.

These owners profit off brand and revenue sharing amongst fellow owners.

I suppose your theory that they will simply never be able to fire Tomlin might be closest to the truth. Sure, they'd like to win another Super Bowl, but basically, they are stuck with a coach who has shown no ability to develop a contender himself. No wonder MT doesn't want to be traded. Barring a total collapse with a 1- or 2-win season, the gravy train in Pittsburgh will only end on his terms.

The consensus is frustrated and looking for answers/reasons.
I think the idea that he is in it for the just the money is hogwash.

Rooney is a proud Pittsburgher. So deeply involved in the Pittsburgh community.
I have to believe there is nothing more he wants than to hoist another Lombardi for the city and its people.

I think he is convinced that firing Tomlin isnā€™t the way to do it.
I think Ron summed it up best: There is no way they can fire him. The nomenclature and the "spirit of the rule" won't allow it.

But is there really? I've been at games where scalpers where giving away tickets. Giving them away. Those tickets were not bringing much $ in. The Steelers usually spend up to the cap, but year they did not. Art II throws around dimes like manhole covers. Annual budget on gym expenses used to be $100, not even kidding or exaggerating.

I think 8 long years sans a playoff win is more than enough time.
The worst part about the whole thing wasn't necessarily what he said, but his energy was like what the Steelers looked like in the past 5 or 6 playoff games, no energy what so ever, no fire, nothing.
A testament to Fraudlin's coaching.

Art seems like he doesnā€™t want to be there. Just going through the motions and doing his due diligence. I never felt like Art ever had the passion he should have had only assuming control because it was expected of him.
The guy simply shows no passion, emotion or even anger that his team resides where they are.
No owner would tolerate such mediocrity this long and playoff failures only this guy. Tomlin has become the Marvin Lewis that we would make fun of and even Mike Brown finally had enough of it.
I cannot stand listening to another bullshit session from Tomlin again nor the lifeless owner who just goes through the motions of being an owner.
Art II is an attorney and acts like one. Zero passion for football, doesn't really care about winning.

Doesn't matter. The tickets and PSL's are already purchased from the Steelers at face value. If the season ticket holders lose money on the secondary market that's not Deuce's problem. He's already got his money and if you think the team sucks and don't want your season tickets any more, that's fine because there's a 13 year waiting list behind you.

Ask Art II if he doesn't care to lose revenues from parking and beers.

Its the spin. All the lackeys are out bitching about the state of the roster... its BS.
Yeah there are positions like Wr and Dt that could ise another playmaker... but overall this roster is extremely compareable to contending rosters... even with the ? At QB

We have a coaching philosophy issue and Art 2 wont recognize it because he shares the same philosophy...

People think their issues stem from being cheap... that isnt the case... that was the other Rooneys who wanted money invested in their racetracks... the football Rooneys are just stubborn and set in their ways

In a digital world, they arent analog.. they are typewrites and snail mail... they may still use abacuses...
Dan pushed the envelope on front office and scouting philosophies and play-style modifications more than you think... Art is just trying to copy what he did... but the league evolved past all of that

This post couldn't be more spot on. We have 3 of the top defensive players in the league, and they way they get used is appalling. I said it last year, and the year before, there are coordinators out there that would just drool at the possibilities to scheme Watt, Minkah, and Cam into favorable positions to change games. I think of Jim Schwarts in Cleveland and the way he moves Garrett around.

On offense, lets look at the Commanders for a second, they have a rookie QB (albeit a legit rising star), and what else on offense? They are in the same boat as we are, one actually might say worse. Daniels was their leading passer AND rusher on the season, he outrushed their RB1 by 92 yards on the season. At WR they have Terry McLaurin and ??? Their second leading receiver was Zach Ertz.

Philosophy issues galore.

As for the coaching staff, I don't really buy into that one. They have guys in positions they just don't list them... Like Rooney said, they have 27 people on staff, they just don't list them all like some teams do. And while I do think we need to UPGRADE the strength and conditioning coaches, I don't think we are lacking in personnel there or the scouting dept.

Compared to the TV money, it's not that much.

I hear everything you are saying Ron, thanks for all your humor and great post(s) along the way.

I think the biggest reason is that as his brother Jimmy said in his interviewā€¦.. ā€œThe Steelers are ahead of the meansā€

Loosely translated: The Steelers franchise is making more money than what the NFL can instill. The Steelers are ranked # 1 and the Ravens are a close 2nd. It tells us that they have the right combination of wins & HOPE to be ahead of the fruition of NFL merit.

Us fans are continuously lured in, spent the money on HOPE, then are disappointed in the end. The franchise has the regular ā€œlife-timeā€ fans, the world wide attraction of the fans, the BEST color scheme to attract new fans (scientifically proven combination of wins), the socially attractive, and the ā€œkinshipā€ of generations of the fans family.

To make the money they are making exceeds what could be expected should they invest even more to yield less. Too big a business risk. Quite possible, the Steelers Franchise has peaked, similar to the rest of the NFL and brand.

Salute the nation

You are spouting complete nonsense. Are you claiming Pgh spends serious $ on the coaching staff? They spend among the lowest pay of their coaching/training staff in the NFL. Do you know what their gym budget is?

Where did I say that they spent big money? I said the number of staff is there, it's just not fully listed like other teams. Quit ******* replying to my posts if you aren't going to ******* read what they say

"Not fully listed" implies they are spending equivalent $ on the coaching/training staff. They have among the lowest paid staff in the league. Fact.

No it doesn't, it means they don't list every strength and conditioning coach, or analytics, or scout on their payroll. They only list the major title holders. FACT. Again, NO WHERE in my post was anything FINANCIAL talked about. You add in your own nonsense to fit your tired, clapped out narrative that hasn't changed for the last 15 years. Parrot

You got busted in false narration of the staff, they have one of the smallest budgets in the NFL. FACT.
