Art speaking now,

Money post. The roster isn’t bad outside of a few holes and QB. The coaching staff doesn’t get the most out of the players because they aren’t coached up and play ultra conservative. After the first mistake they go full turtle mode. That style wouldn’t win when it counts even if we did have a franchise QB in place.
I am convinced they could have pro bowlers at every position and still end with a mediocre record.

Just think about this wrap your head around this:

Tomlin and Austin will be back with their same scheme next season . Both of them, like nothing there needs fixing. They will continue to pour players into the broken hoping for a different result.

They will do their best to nullify anything Andy and Omar do.

Just today they were at the Senior Bowl practice zooming in on DL prospects.

This isn’t blasphemy! This is madness!

Here's what I don't understand:

It seems to be nearly a consensus that the problem is the Rooneys are only about money, and not concerned with the product on the field. But wouldn't a better product lead to more revenue? Wouldn't another Super Bowl appearance help to create increased value for the franchise going forward?
OK, so what is your question?

I listened to Art’s news conference and all I can say is I’m uninspired by what I heard.
The guy had no emotion in his voice. It was just like he’s going through the motions of being a reluctant owner.
Meaning, I don’t think he likes being the principle owner of this team. I don’t think he really ever wanted this and it just sounds it from his tone.
This Rooney was not passionate like his father and was more of on the business side of this franchise.
He should have been visibly upset and angry with how his franchise just finished the season in the fashion they did.
Getting blown out and embarrassed in four of the last five loses to end their season I would have expected more emotion and unhappiness in his tone. I think his happiest day is when he turns this over to his son. Hopefully the son is a better owner but I have my doubts.
Maybe he does want to win championships but when a social justice rule is named for your family there is no way, NO WAY, he is going to fire the team's first black head coach, who BTW has never had a losing season, in case you didn't know.

It depends. It's a calculation that is made. Using Bob Nutting for example since baseball has smaller rosters and no salary cap, it would be fairly simple to hire better scouts and coaches and better FA players but he's obviously decided that the juice ain't worth the squeeze and he makes more money hovering around .500.
No one knows what the Pirates' net profit is but hypothetically if you asked Nutting if he'd rather have a losing season and make $10 million or win a World Series and lose 99 cents, he'd look at you like you had a third eye.
The Steelers spend up to the cap on players but except for Shades they go cheap on assistant coaches.
If there's empty seats at the games, Deuce doesn't give ****, they're still paid for and there's a 13 year waiting list for season tickets.

Pirates merchandise definitely sells. From a fan perspective we wonder how? But from a streetwear perspective the colors and logo appeal to a lot.

Then of course you start getting into street gang territory and all of a sudden colors and sports logos mean something beyond original concept.

These owners profit off brand and revenue sharing amongst fellow owners.

I suppose your theory that they will simply never be able to fire Tomlin might be closest to the truth. Sure, they'd like to win another Super Bowl, but basically, they are stuck with a coach who has shown no ability to develop a contender himself. No wonder MT doesn't want to be traded. Barring a total collapse with a 1- or 2-win season, the gravy train in Pittsburgh will only end on his terms.

The consensus is frustrated and looking for answers/reasons.
I think the idea that he is in it for the just the money is hogwash.

Rooney is a proud Pittsburgher. So deeply involved in the Pittsburgh community.
I have to believe there is nothing more he wants than to hoist another Lombardi for the city and its people.

I think he is convinced that firing Tomlin isn’t the way to do it.
I think Ron summed it up best: There is no way they can fire him. The nomenclature and the "spirit of the rule" won't allow it.

But is there really? I've been at games where scalpers where giving away tickets. Giving them away. Those tickets were not bringing much $ in. The Steelers usually spend up to the cap, but year they did not. Art II throws around dimes like manhole covers. Annual budget on gym expenses used to be $100, not even kidding or exaggerating.

I think 8 long years sans a playoff win is more than enough time.
The worst part about the whole thing wasn't necessarily what he said, but his energy was like what the Steelers looked like in the past 5 or 6 playoff games, no energy what so ever, no fire, nothing.
A testament to Fraudlin's coaching.

Art seems like he doesn’t want to be there. Just going through the motions and doing his due diligence. I never felt like Art ever had the passion he should have had only assuming control because it was expected of him.
The guy simply shows no passion, emotion or even anger that his team resides where they are.
No owner would tolerate such mediocrity this long and playoff failures only this guy. Tomlin has become the Marvin Lewis that we would make fun of and even Mike Brown finally had enough of it.
I cannot stand listening to another bullshit session from Tomlin again nor the lifeless owner who just goes through the motions of being an owner.
Art II is an attorney and acts like one. Zero passion for football, doesn't really care about winning.
