Arthur Smith's Offense

Who stated? Obviously it must be pure speculation on your part. No one knows the ins and outs of every companies operating procedures. And I can speculate myself in this day of age their are plenty off companies that coddle their employees. Especially in these last 3 and a half years.
Hi re-read the thread. Not spoon feeding you...

Because Wilson was promised to start over Fields and apparently he is a better prospect then Pickett. Tomlin personally called Wilson to maje sure he wasn't butt hurt by the Fields signing. Pickett's only chance to start next year was Wilson injury or regular season failure.
Promised? Ok. I'm done. Where's the proof???

I don't want to hear this BS about Kenny being lied to.

Goff took the rams to the SB and they booted him
Russell Wilson was signed by Denver and last year they benched him because he refused to waive an injury clause in his contract, then they cut him.

I can go on with examples of QBs far more accomplished who were kicked to the curb. That's the deal in the NFL for QBs. You are playing at a high level or you are at risk of getting cut. Why should Kenny get some special consideration like he's a make a wish kid?

So Fields is better than Pickett....we all can agree on that...correct? So Wilson was going to be i. Competition with Pickett but when Pickett is moved and Fields is brought in.....Wilson is named the starter with no competition. Weird since I was told there is ALWAYS competition by another poster. 🤔

I wonder if MarK Robinson is expecting to run with the ones and will feel lied to when Queen plays ahead of him?
I guess it's possible.....was he ever told that? Maybe he will.ask to be traded. Might not get much for him though if anything. Probably will just have to give him his out right release. No hostages. Only volunteers.

I think Russell Wilson should do well in this offensive structure and Fields could be fine. I’m not sure how Pickens fits with this offense. He has shown he can be a damn good blocker when he wants to be. If he’s involved early, he seems to want to block and be involved more.

Blocking play in and play out will keep Pickens a happy camper I am sure...especially if we somehow bring in one of these other top WRs that we are linked to. Hopefully he stays a volunteer.

At this stage of the game it's all about having the pride to play all facets of the game; receiving and blocking. All 11 players have a job to do every play. We know Pickens has the tools. The question is does he have the willingness.

If he doesn't, he'll be treated like the rest of the hostages.

Wilson even with his flaws is better than Pickett was last year, I disagree that Fields is better. He has more PHYSICAL talent, but has overall sucked on the field. He has had piss poor ball control. He takes a lot of bad sacks. He hasnt shown any ability to perform in a 2 minute offense... his accuracy got slightly better last season, but his first two seasons his accuracy was worse than Picketts first two seasons check out his advanced stats and splits... one of the criticisms against him is that he takes a long time to survey the field...

For a sixth round pick he 1000% is worth the gamble. All of those issues are correctable and every young qb has some of them... but the difference is that fields particular mix isnt conductive to winning...

Picketts problems were different, but they didnt lead to losses... he was like a neutral factor, not good, not bad...

picketts passer rating and stats went progressively better from quarter to quarter... from high 60's in the first to high 70's in the second, high 80's in the third and high 90's in the 4th...
fields was the polar opposite.. his passer rating in the first was like 113, but the second it fell i to the 90's, the third it was in the 80's... and tge 4th it was in the 50's

The most telling stat though is their passing at the end of games..

neither has many passes while leading in the final 4 and 2 minutes of games, of course...

When leading pickett has 5 in the final 4 and 1 in the final 2 minutes.
fields has thrown 4 in the final four and never has, in three years, thrown a pass while leading in the final 2 minutes.

None of these are statistically significant to break down

However both have a decent amount of stats when trailing in the final 4 and 2 minutes...

Fields stats have been atrocious in both the final 4 and final 2 minutes of games when trailing ... he has thrown 110 passes in the final 4 and 69 of them were in the final 2
he has just over a 50% completion percentage in both. His passer rating is in the 40's in both 4 minute and 2 minute offense.
If he has tge clutch gene, its dormant... he blows with the game on the line...

Pickett was the opposite.. in four minute offense when trailing, he has a 94.6 passer rating... it jumps up to over 98 in the final two minutes...

The disparity of picketts stats in the start to end of games shows a severely repressed qb either restrained by the staff or not confident in his abilities that gets progressively better as the pressure gets bigger..

Fields has the exact opposite portfolio. One plays too conservativecearly, but makes plays down the stretch and wins

The other makes plays early, but chokes down the stretch

One has a winning record, the other a losing record..

And its not trending fields way either..

His passer rating in the final 4/2 when trailing last season was 22.1 and 19.4 respectively...
pickett was at 149 and 158.3 ...

So no.. i dont believe as a qb Fields is currently better than Pickett right now... well outside of fantasy stats...
I do, however think he could be in time... its just gonna take a year or two..

You know every talking heads simply throws **** against the wall to see what sticks? This is simply another article doing the same.....all I got from the article was a bunch of speculation. No facts.
Yup. Most of the big FA signings and trades are done. Nothing to talk about until the draft.

Kenny's performance in 2 minute situations is what leads me to believe he is capable of a lot more in the right offense.

It was the exact same way with Ben in his one season with Canada as OC. Terrible for three quarters, but great in the fourth.

Something was just off with Canada, not just the base offense he was calling in the middle of games, but seemingly the way he was coaching the QBs to execute them during the week.

It's not a coincidence Kenny had his best game as a passer in his one full game without Canada.

Who's to say Rudolph would have played as well as he did if Canada was still OC?

I am in the camp that letting Kenny go was a mistake, but the Steelers felt their hand was forced with the way he responded to the Wilson signing.

Kenny could have handled it differently, but the question is whether the Steelers could have done the same in terms of their communication with both Kenny and Wilson.

I guess for the same reason Wilson needed our FO to name him as the starter going in.....but yeah. I can agree with everything you just said.

To be fair, Pickett is gone because he wanted to leave... they messed ip his development but honestly, it ended how it had to once he requested a trade

So much for Wilson being guaranteed that he is the starting QB until pigs fly narrative.
That article is pure speculation ... yeah the steelers could cut Wilson with little cap impact since he is signed to a league minimum deal... but then they would need a vet backup anyway...

Fields has basically been told he is the backup.. Wilson is the starter... Fields will start when Wilson inevitably gets hurt... since our luck with free agents seems to dictate that... lol

The video had me at "Smith designed the offense around the strengths of his players".

That was WIDLEY reported and you know that. If you don't type Tomlin talks to Wison after signing Fields in a google search.

Pickett was gone before Fields was signed. I’m sure you know that, but just wanted to be sure.

Salute the nation

My point is this there is literally no way they said Russ you are gonna have to compete with Kenny for the starting job. But Russ you do not have to compete with Fields because we did not draft Justin but hey we are loyal to Kenny. Like c'mon.
