before injury

Bush had a decent game but man, some fans want to sign him to a 5 year 80 mil contract now. He’s still average at best. Still a subpar player IMO. Either way, settle down and let’s see if he can do it more than one week.

I don't think anyone here or anywhere actually want to resign him for 5yrs 80mil, not even close.

I think what most are saying is that he is trending up and looks better than last year.

I can flip that narrative rather quickly. On Bush's highlight reel 9/10 of the plays are vs. Pass. What happens on third down or anything they really suspect pass?
Here is the reality Devin Bush has two gaps as an ILB innthis defense. By sheer volume of runs he should be the impetus if not solo tackler on 2-5 runs between his 5 yard depth and the LOS PER game. He does not have 5 of those on the season guarenteed and the ones he has are either in short yardage or he blitzed his gap. I don't think he has more than one or two
Vinnie Williams or now Myles Jack. Read fire to your gap and hit the running back plays for the season.

No. The run defense looks better because he has Myles Jack next to him instead of Shoebert who I believe us out of football or not starting. If you had two Devin Bush's standing there it would be just as bad. Also the inside Dline is better.

No but I know how to play linebacker and one who refuses to take his gap is **** on a boar.
you know how to play linebacker forthe Steelers? that is amazing! when did you play?

who? I would want an Edmunds like signing. good for the Steelers. Hopefully nhis play proves me wrong and he gets alot more

Not sure what that means. I guess he could do some things that I would say he deserves to start. I still have not seen anything. Like I believe he has between 3-5 pass defenses. He is a linebacker not a db. The context of his whole game is still **** because he doesn't take the run. As far as him being a Steelers player beyond this season that book should be in a landfill.
You can't minimize what a LBer does. Not just pass defenses but solid coverage. And it isn't like the guy hasn't made run stops. He is what he is. But what he is, is arguably better than what Spillane is. Not even saying the guy can't be upgraded. Just saying he is playing better than last years atrocious play, more important the effort is better. Maybe he continues to improve maybe he doesn't. I think that is more an unknown at this point.

I don't need to play linebacker for the Steelers. I can watch film with more than a fan eye. There are 6 gaps and 6 guys in their box. I've watched every game on replay with an open mind on his play. He still refuses to attack his gap. Fans say the run defense is improved so everyone is better. No the play around him specifically Jack and the interior defensive line is better.

I’m not even sure he’s worth an Edmonds signing but we’ll see by the end of the year.
His play is no where near Edmunds last year. Not even close. Edmunds will get 7 per next year minimum after this season. Bush will be lucky if he isn't done.

I get what you are saying but like many here, who do you replace him with at this stage. He is better than he was last year and currently I don't see them resigning him in the off-season. If they do it will be a low dollar prove it type scenario.

I hear you many times over

A linebacker who doesn't take his gap is worthless. I'd live with ups and downs of Robinson. Rookie mistakes can be corrected. That **** cannot.

I agree with this, but I also wanted Robinson to get some snaps yesterday, and it didn't appear as if he got any. I'm not there at practice so I don't see the two in comparison but when Robinson played, he didn't seem like too big of a liability.

Bush can be upgraded but I don't think that upgrade will happen this year. Yes I'd love to see Mr. Robinson in some very successful action causing him to replace Mr. Bush. Obviously ONLY if it makes the team better.

Problem with those unknowns is that coaches see them day in and day out. With Flores getting close up looks I have to believe he feels Robinson is a project who would not be an upgrade at this point. I have faith in that coach. Not so many others, but that coach definitely.

My sentiments exactly, Who can replace him right now, ..... no one. The un played player is always the best until they play, then the realness steps in. It would be great if Robinson could step in and take over but just as stated, there is a reason he isn't and coaching views it.

With Bush's play I honestly don't believe any of that well they see him a practice. I think we learned yesterday you can bring people off the street and at least for one week you can dumb it down a bit and that can play. There is an alterior motive or stubbornness about Bush's starting. And let's not pretend we haven't seen that before with uncle Jarvis. I would venture to say that no defensive coach would look at Bush's film and say that it is above the line. I can tell you with near certainty if the Steelers don't resign him he won't start anywhere next year and will be lucky to make a roster. Every first rounder gets one look unless it's off the field but if he plays like he will only get a look.

Jarvis was a different set of circumstances. He wasn't coming off an injury and he didn't have a well thought of head coach standing over him. (Flores)

Not getting why you don't carry faith in Flores.

It's not that I don't carry faith in Flores. You can't polish a turd. If Bush's play was going to improve it would have been on display week one and since. He us the same guy with a few pass break ups but they obviously don't love his pass defense or he wouldn't get subbed in third and long.

This is where I get frustrated with your stuff. I was saying earlier in the year to give Bush a chance, granted. But I don't necessarily disagree with you now. However, it is always some motive or damn conspiracy. The staff and the owner are sitting around trying to lose football games to aggravate the fan base. Maybe it is as simple as the fact that they don't have anyone better.

I did not say they were trying to lose. When you move up in the first round for substantial capital you can put on blinders. And if we are going to pretend that Tomlin does not favor pedigree let's just choose to disagree. I'm not talking about some conspiracy. I'm saying he gives high draft picks too long a rope.

In think most coaches give highly drafted players a long rope, but Bush's play is at best a below average starter. He is more like a solid backup. I don't know why they won't give Robinson some snaps just to see. Bush doesn't seem like he loves football and is not an instinctive player. Just not a good combination.

When one player is raw and inexperienced you are going to have some blown assignments. Through film and practices that can be corrected. When another player is too small lacks strength and explosiveness and then you eem him unable to play coverage downs that cannot be corrected. It's as simple as that. And as for the learning curve it's just not that bad. He has two gaps and in coverage most of the time he has three to his side. He lines up different if it's tight end or search. If it's zone he has hook curl. It's really not rocket science. Offense is another story. They play cover one man with safety over top, cover two with two safeties, cover three with single safety and two corners deep. Now I fully realize that there is much more to their defense and it would sound like Chinese if I walked in. But let's not make it mystical because it isn't. Lebeau's zone blitz was quite a different animal. There were a lot of if thens.

You used the term ulterior motive. To me that implies some sort of conspiracy. I don't think it is that at all. I just think they don't feel they have someone better. Robinson was a 7th for a reason, I would assume mostly due to his lack of LB experience. The pros will exploit that very quickly. This isn't preseason. I just don't see them having a better option. Now, they probably should have a better option, but that is a different discussion. But even with that, you can't address every position in the draft or FA. You gotta take a chance that at some positions the guys you have will improve.

I dunno...let's see what Bush does next week. To me it looked like he tried yesterday - hopefully he'll continue. A bad injury messes with the mind.

I have to admit that, outside of what I think of Bush and Spillane, I remain highly confused about their rotations in and out. In theory, Bush's strength is his ability to cover and be more versatile and Spillane's bailiwick is allegedly the ability to stop the run. But I will be damned if it didn't feel like (and I didn't really look into this, just going on what I think I saw), the coaches regularly had Spillane on the field on passing plays and Bush on running plays (not just this week but every week). It seems like we basically had them each in at the opposite/worst time for each.

I mean, seeing Spillane in on pass plays and fully failing to understand zone or just being destroyed by anyone he was covering (and he was clearly getting targeted) is just plain ugly. Likewise, Bush getting swallowed up on run plays is ugly too. Of course, Spillane was once heralded for his hitting and run stopping and he doesn't do that anymore either).

Sure, if I had to pick one I would take Bush but I'd rather take neither. That being said, if we have to have both I just don't understand what the coaching plan is for them. It definitely isn't a plan that plays to their, well, assumed strengths.

Problem is that bad injury has had enough time to be past his mind. He may be damaged goods with no return, but it isn't because they haven't given him enough reign. Maybe yesterday was that step needed. Time will tell.
