I have to admit that, outside of what I think of Bush and Spillane, I remain highly confused about their rotations in and out. In theory, Bush's strength is his ability to cover and be more versatile and Spillane's bailiwick is allegedly the ability to stop the run. But I will be damned if it didn't feel like (and I didn't really look into this, just going on what I think I saw), the coaches regularly had Spillane on the field on passing plays and Bush on running plays (not just this week but every week). It seems like we basically had them each in at the opposite/worst time for each.
I mean, seeing Spillane in on pass plays and fully failing to understand zone or just being destroyed by anyone he was covering (and he was clearly getting targeted) is just plain ugly. Likewise, Bush getting swallowed up on run plays is ugly too. Of course, Spillane was once heralded for his hitting and run stopping and he doesn't do that anymore either).
Sure, if I had to pick one I would take Bush but I'd rather take neither. That being said, if we have to have both I just don't understand what the coaching plan is for them. It definitely isn't a plan that plays to their, well, assumed strengths.
