Bell suspended

Why do you defend the player and coach in every post. You are like the opposite of a couple of posters we have here. Answer me this:

Tomlin being soft on players discipline has hurt our team...is this a correct statement or incorrect statement?

Please tell me where he has been soft on discipline prove that. Can you do that? As a matter of fact Holmes suspension was Tomlin.. But please post factual stats that show Tomlin is soft on his team.

The Bell and Ben this are different, riding a motorcycle without a helmet isn't against the law or against the NFL's rules, smoking weed is.

I don't fault Cowher or Tomlin in either though, Ben's accident was an accident some lady missed a red light and smashed him, I don't think an old lady missed a red light and jammed weed in Bell's mouth. If it was in Ben's contract that he shouldn't be riding a motorcycle without a helmet, then yes he should've been suspended by the team then, but I don't think it was at the time.

Not saying they are exactly the same I'm saying they were both selfish acts. Cowher went to Ben and talked to him about the bike riding is my point. Ben brushed him off. That's the point. Just like I'm sure Tomlin has talked to Bell. But both Bell and Ben made their own decisions

If he smoked weed and didn't pass because that then I'm all for the suspension. If he didnt smoke and just missed a test because of schedule I think he should be allowed to appeal and retake it to determine his eligibility to play. Keeping it all in perspective he's being suspended because he missed a test.

How do you miss a drug test when they actually come to your house?

I would call it not being home at the time. Maybe rehab, practice, training, going to the grocery store, post office, etc. It's possible he had something else scheduled at the time and could have forgotten. Again I'm not really trying to make excuses or even know the situation but these things are possible before we write him off. Hopefully that is the case and maybe can contribute to a successful appeal.

You can't bend the rules for our guy and NOT for the other guys in the program. A missed test is the same as a fail. I'm not saying he failed, but he didn't miss the test because of over scheduling. The STEELERS would excuse him as they know the consequences. The rehab would alter a schedule or appointment as they know the consequences. He ****** up and most reason he never showed would be a failed test. Anyone who thinks he was over scheduled to show missing of the test should think long and hard as to who suffers the consequences of a missed test. The STEELERS lose, the rehab loses as common goal per steelers. He missed due to known failure and he is back tracking trying to be innocent as he "KNOWS" what kind of man he is. Have you heard him outright deny smoking a little hochi? NO, he just says he doesn't let it bother him what others are saying. NO direct answer of denial . I'm as fed up as anyone here but I look for the silver lining ion things. As some said this will give more healing time. The answer will play out, I just hope he wakes up soon.

I guess this is where our country is. Blaming someone else for the actions of a grown man.

They are adults for **** sake. You shouldn't need to discipline them at this point. They should do it on their own. And if they are too stupid or blockheaded to do it on their own, what discipline is going to make them do it?

Until Bell or Bryant or any of these guys realize it is in their best interests to get their heads out of the *****, all the discipline in the world won't matter. They have to do it for themselves.

Like I said in my post the NFL tracks players all over the USA I dont see any possible way he missed a test due to schedule.

Every week during his press conference a writer asks him about some stupid penalty a player took that cost the team one way or another and Tomlin just gives one of his clique replies.

As Steelerfan448 stated, in a way, this could be a blessing in disguise for Bell to heal more. Now is Bell an idiot, absolutely, he probably cost himself millions because correct me if Im wrong, one more infraction is a year suspension? Look, Bell is 24 years old, probably not the brightest bulb either, as a Steeler fan I am disappointed because I want our team to be successful. But lets remember also he is probably in trouble for smoking weed (missing the test because he would know he would fail). It's considered an illegal substance in the NFL but we all know how perception of marijuana is changing in this country. Not trying to justify it all, he's still a moron, I'm just saying.

Additionally lets not forget, Bell is 24 yrs old, it took a certain future hall of fame QB #7 a few years to figure this **** out also. Bell is an incredible talent, no doubt, but if he cant stay away from the hippy lettuce for the good of his team and career I think it speaks volumes of his character. I hope he figures this **** out soon...

Spot on.

This is the state of our nation, no one holds people personally responsible anymore. Tomlin is not Bell's daddy, and he doesn't need to follow him around to make sure he's acting right. As his boss he has time with him at work to discuss issues and offer advice, but once Bell leaves the Steelers facility he is grown man that is responsible and accountable only to himself. I'm sure many parents in here have children that have gotten in trouble, does that mean you should be fired as a parent? Does that you created a "soft" environment? Not to mention, that is a child who you are responsible for as a parent before they move on and become adults (which Bell is), and not one of you would say it's your fault, you would blame the child. But as it is with the nation right now, you don't blame the child, you question, where were the parents? Why didn't they do something? Since when did grown adults become the 24/7 responsibility of their bosses? I thought this thread was called "BELL suspended" not "Tomlin wasn't parenting Bell nor the team properly". But hey it's human nature to blame shift and when you have a bias against a particular person you'll find anyway for anything to be their fault.

Hate to say it but I've said it before that he would get suspended again, and that day has come. A missed test is the same as a fail per league rules, see Bryant case. It is quite obvious he is smoking regularly when every selfie he posts he's so ******* Chinese eyed. What a ******* dumbass!!!

Next one will be a year. And there will be a next one. Have fun with being a rapper tag along as your next career Bell, cause your rap tracks suck *** and will never get ya more than tag along status in that field. Bright side is he'll be able to smoke so much dope he won't be able to tell how untalented he is as a "musician"

Like I said let me know when you have factual evidence

I was willing to go 8mil a year for Bell. Now, it is down to 4mil.

He missed 3 tests to be subject to a 4 game suspension, Steelz

I'd try to trade him - because if he fails/misses another test, it will be a year off. He would be great without the baggage - he is a college graduate - he should not be that stupid. For 12 million a year, I'd stop drinking alcohol, no problem (I don't smoke weed, so I can't say I'd stop that, but I would if I did). We shoulda drafted a RB....

Bell is a grown *** man that knows the NFL's policies. It isn't up to Tomlin or the Steelers to baby sit him. They have families and lives during the off season. All of this bullshit about Tomlin being too soft is garbage. The NFL's drug policy is just that, it's there policy doesn't matter what Tomlin thinks about it he is totally out of the equation. You really think the players are going around saying coach doesn't matter if I smoke weed? It's about time players take personal responsibility for there actions whether it be drugs, violence or anything else like that. This is all on Bell. PERIOD.

My stock value in sweatpants companies will be going up, so there's that.

I hear Archer is available. Would look good in B&G, probably sign for vet minimum, wasn't used right in Pittsburgh....no, wait........

Like I said let me know when you have factual evidence

I'm sure you will hear it 16 times during the regular season. Week in and week out one of our players pulls a dumb *** celebration that issues a 15 yd penalty. Does this hurt our team?

I don't understand why we would release him.

He's being paid $57,000 a week (for 17 weeks). That's it. As this point on his rookie deal, it's a week-to-week contract.

You don't think he's worth $57,000 a game from week 5 to the end of the season (and possibly the playoffs FOR FREE)?

If you want to argue don't sign him to a long term deal, I can understand that. If you want to argue just let him go to the free agency and walk after this season, I can understand that.

But you want to pass up a player of his talent for $57,000/game this season TO MAKE A POINT? To act like your team has morals (and what morals that still has to be explained)?

I don't get it. Someone please explain.

I definitely wouldn't release him, but I'd look at trading him, some team would take him and have the chance to sign him. He's failed or missed 3 tests to get suspended 4 games and that's going into his contract year where he should be able to cash out, but he still couldn't stop, so I'd try to get something for him while I can. I mean we could franchise him, but what makes anyone think he'll suddenly stop and be dependable?

No kidding. Hell, high school coaches don't even freaking follow their players around when they aren't at practice to make sure they behave....let alone college or pro coaches. Sure they check in with players they might have concerns about from time to time and they cannot and will not babysit them 24/7. Live in the real world people, please.
