Bernie Sanders - Make America Socialist!

was it lack of foresight or lack of condoms?

Neither.

http://www.heritage.org/research/re...e-undermines-marriage-and-what-to-do-about-it

Welfare and the Decline of Marriage
It is no accident that the collapse of marriage in America largely began with the War on Poverty and the proliferation of means-tested welfare programs that it fostered. When the War on Poverty began, only a single welfare program—Aid to Families with Dependent Children (AFDC)—assisted single parents. Today, dozens of programs provide benefits to families with children, including the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) food program, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), food stamps, child nutrition programs, public housing and Section 8 housing, and Medicaid. Although married couples with children can also receive aid through these programs, the overwhelming majority of assistance to families with children goes to single-parent households.

The burgeoning welfare state has promoted single parenthood in two ways. First, means-tested welfare programs such as those described above financially enable single parenthood. It is difficult for single mothers with a high school degree or less to support children without the aid of another parent. Means-tested welfare programs substantially reduce this difficulty by providing extensive support to single parents. Welfare thereby reduces the financial need for marriage. Since the beginning of the War on Poverty, less-educated mothers have increasingly become married to the welfare state and to the U.S. taxpayer rather than to the fathers of their children.

As means-tested benefits expanded, welfare began to serve as a substitute for a husband in the home, and low-income marriage began to disappear. As husbands left the home, the need for more welfare to support single mothers increased. The War on Poverty created a destructive feedback loop: Welfare promoted the decline of marriage, which generated a need for more welfare.

Penalizing Marriage
A second major problem is that the means-tested welfare system actively penalizes low-income parents who do marry. All means-tested welfare programs are designed so that a family’s benefits are reduced as earnings rise. In practice, this means that, if a low-income single mother marries an employed father, her welfare benefits will generally be substantially reduced. The mother can maximize welfare by remaining unmarried and keeping the father’s income “off the books.”

For example, a single mother with two children who earns $15,000 per year would generally receive around $5,200 per year of food stamp benefits. However, if she marries a father with the same earnings level, her food stamps would be cut to zero. A single mother receiving benefits from Section 8 or public housing would receive a subsidy worth on average around $11,000 per year if she was not employed, but if she marries a man earning $20,000 per year, these benefits would be cut nearly in half. Both food stamps and housing programs provide very real financial incentives for couples to remain separate and unmarried.

Overall, the federal government operates over 80 means-tested welfare programs that provide cash, food, housing, medical care, and social services to poor and low-income individuals. Each program contains marriage penalties similar to those described above. Low-income families generally receive benefits from several programs at the same time. The marriage penalties from multiple programs when added together can provide substantial financial disincentives to marriage. For example, if a single mother who earns $20,000 per year marries a man who earns the same amount, the couple will typically lose about $12,000 a year in welfare benefits. In effect, the welfare system makes it economically irrational for most low-income couples to marry.

A local conservative radio talk show host has a saying that has stuck with me over the years..."Subsidize what you want to see more of...". We have been building this welfare state ever since we incentivized single parenthood.

This is awesome, Bernie brings the heat to Cruz & Trumpy, then drops the mic. Classic.

Holy crap, the numbers at last night's Bernie rally at Washington Square Park keep rising & rising.

Tibs - not annoyed at all by the corrupt Democratic primary process and the ridiculous "super delegates"?

Hillary Clinton: 1,758 delegates (includes 469 superdelegates)
Bernie Sanders: 1,069 delegates (includes 31 superdelegates)
Not yet allocated: 1,938

Bernie ain't getting to 2,383, Tibs. He isn't.

My daughter got an academic scholarship to WSU. She worked her *** off all 4 years of HS. Granted, it's not a full scholarship, but it helps. She gets so pissed off seeing these college kids want stuff for "free." She gets pissed when she sees these kids out there protesting and doing jack **** with their lives- yet because of the way we are headed, THAT is better than earning your way.

I had to pick up somebody from the airport yesterday (God, I hate doing that), so I listened to the Democratic debate while driving. First off, I found it strange that the format was this: Clinton, what do you say? Bernie, your response? Clinton, your response to the response?

All night long that happened, such that Hillary received basically twice Sanders' time.

One thing that irritated the **** out of me was Sanders' repeated statement, "It's time the rich started paying their fair share." The suggestion that the "rich" don't pay their "fair share" (whatever that is supposed to mean) is an outright, provable, complete, total and utter lie:

The top 1% already pay 38% of all goddamn income tax revenue, and the top 5% pay 60% of income tax. Meanwhile, the bottom 50% of wage earners - half the ******* country, Bernie - pay a combined 2.8%.

Half the population, combined, pays less than 3%.

Fair share? Yeah, sure.

Sanders preaches income inequality in visit to Vatican
http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-brief...sanders-emphasizes-common-good-at-the-vatican

Democratic presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders used his speech at the Vatican on Friday to make the case for the "common good" and viewing economic inequality around the world in moral terms.

Sanders said global wealth inequality, a subject championed by Pope Francis, has only become worse.

"Our very soul as a nation has suffered as the public lost faith in political and social institutions," he said in his speech, which he followed up with comments to reporters in Vatican City, hours after Thursday night's Democratic debate in New York.

Sanders argued that big money in politics and powerful financial interests led to more than financial bubbles and falling living standards but broader cynicism in the United States and around the world.

The Vermont senator made his remarks during a workshop at a conference on social, economic and environmental issues hosted by The Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences.

Sanders is not expected to meet with Francis himself during the visit, though he is reportedly staying at the hotel where Francis lives on Friday night.

The decision by the Democratic candidate to leave New York days before that state's primary was seen as a political risk.

Sanders faces an uphill battle for delegates to secure the Democratic nomination and is hoping to rally economic progressives and shore up support from Catholics with a trip to Vatican City.

There were days of speculation over whether Sanders would meet with the pope himself during his trip, though spokesmen for the pontiff had ruled out such a meeting ahead of his speech.

Bishop Marcelo Sánchez Sorondo, chancellor of the academy who had invited him to speak at the workshop, read a message from the pontiff shortly before Sanders delivered his remarks in which Francis apologized for not being able to attend the workshop later in the day, noting preparations for a trip to the Greek island of Lesbos on Saturday.

During his speech, Sanders argued that the "illicit financial flows, environmental destruction and the weakening of the rights of workers is far more severe than it was a quarter century ago," when Pope John Paul II released his encyclical Centesimus Annus, the focus of the workshop.

Still, Sanders argued that the biggest challenges facing humanity don't revolved around finances or technology, since investments in both can be increased.

"Our challenge is mostly a moral one, to redirect our efforts and vision to the common good," he said.

His remarks touched on mainstay campaign issues such as criticizing Wall Street and unlimited spending by super-PACs in the presidential campaign, though he also sought to draw parallels between his view of economics around the world and those advocated by the pope.

"Some might feel that it is hopeless to fight the economic juggernaut, that once the market economy escaped the boundaries of morality it would be impossible to bring the economy back under the dictates of morality and the common good," said the self-described democratic socialist.

"I am told time and time again by the rich and powerful, and the mainstream media that represent them, that we should be 'practical,' that we should accept the status quo; that a truly moral economy is beyond our reach," Sanders continued. "Yet Pope Francis himself is surely the world’s greatest demonstration against such a surrender to despair and cynicism. He has opened the eyes of the world once again to the claims of mercy, justice and the possibilities of a better world."

Bernie Sanders stresses 'common good' in Vatican attack on capitalism

Sanders seemed to relish adopting some of the damning language Francis himself has used to describe the harm of “unfettered capitalism”, which the Argentinean pontiff has denounced as “the dung of the devil”.

**** you Bernie - stay the **** over there with your commie pope. Oh but he'll take YOUR money.

Every once in awhile Bernie lets his guard down and shows his true red colors. He's a communist through and through and nothing will ever convince me otherwise. If he could he'd distribute all the wealth in the nation, have mandatory work programs run by the government and basically take all freedom of profession and freedom of choice away from everyone... "For the common good" of course. We've heard that line many times in history and not once has it ended up being "good" for anyone.

Everyone would be paid the same regardless of ability or productivity because getting more would be unfair.

It's amazing to me some of the things he says because they are so blatantly communist and he just shrugs them off as "socialist" and people like Tibs buy it. All the same logic.

It's about time you guys get a clue.

Fox News Poll Asked Which Candidate Had Most ‘Integrity’, The Results Are Shaking the GOP Establishment
http://bipartisanreport.com/2016/04...he-results-are-shaking-the-gop-establishment/

Fox News might bill themselves as “fair and balanced,” but their polls tend to skew heavily to the right. For evidence, check out some aggregate polls on Real Clear Politics. Fox’s polls consistently show conservative candidates with more points than liberals. In fact, in the case of this set of Clinton vs. Trump polls, Fox is the only organization that regularly shows Trump ahead. But whether it’s a sampling bias or something more sinister, even Fox News viewers seem to agree that Bernie Sanders is the candidate with the most integrity seeking our vote for POTUS.

Surprising, no? You’d think the top candidate would be one of the conservatives running, but the Democratic socialist demolished the runner up by 14% when pollsters were asked if he “has the integrity to serve as president”. 70% of respondents said yes to Bernie.

But get ready for another shocker. Second place wasn’t the “straight talking” Donald Trump, but rather his opponent in the GOP race, Texas Senator Ted Cruz. And it makes sense when you think about it. After all, Ted and Bernie are the two most partisan politicians in the U.S. Senate. Maybe they’re not so good at reaching across the aisle, but they both know how to stick to their guns. That might actually be a good thing, but only if the candidate is in the habit of being right…

The upsets just keep piling up. Trump doesn’t even take third place! That goes to Hillary Clinton, which might be the most surprising name on this list. After all, a disturbing number of Americans seem to believe she’s “dishonest,” even in a poll where the word wasn’t used as a prompt. It’s a rather disturbing fact, considering that PolitiFact actually rated Clinton as the “most truthful” candidate in the current presidential race, with 72% of her statements being rated as “true”, “mostly true”, or “half-true.” Sanders, in case you’re curious, came in at a close second with 70%. Cruz comes in with 35% of his statements being rated at “half-true” or above, and Trump comes in with a middling 22%. Interestingly enough, the underdog on the Republican side, John Kasich rivals Clinton and Sanders with 69% of his statements being rated “half-true” or above. Kasich, while lacking delegates to be competitive in the current race, does better than his primary opponents against both Clinton and Sanders in a general election matchup.

Donald Trump, who is still dominating the GOP primary field at this point, takes fourth in our integrity contest, a result that seems utterly inexplicable. It may simply be that voters who admire his directness are still put off by his poor knowledge of the economy, or offensive statements, and interpret those concerns as a lack of personal integrity.

Whatever the case, it’s nice to see that even though opinions may differ wildly across party lines, people seem to be able to agree on who’s in alignment between what they think, say, and do. There might be some hope for this country yet.

This is too funny. O'Reilly can't believe it when confronted with the fact that Bernie beats GOP candidates across the board. He'd fit right in here at SN.

You must be the ONLY one still watching Fox News - give it up, nobody cares - they are GOPe up the ***

Don't forget, Bernie lives for the people. Their welfare is his goal. Your riches are evil. He lives like a common man...except...errr....well...scratch all of that.

Bernie Sanders is a complete phony. This "man of the people," who never misses an opportunity to degrade successful people, lives like anything but "the average Joe."

This is a photo, from a NY Times reporter, of the menu from his private, chartered plane. We all eat like this, right? What a complete, total phony Sanders is.

It's a free country, and if you choose to blindly pledge your allegiance to hypocritical, wealthy elites like the John Kerrys, Hillary Clintons, and Bernie Sanders of the world, then that's your choice. But, know this, and know it well, you're supporting total frauds who prey on your ignorance and live the very same economic lives they are disingenuously claiming are immoral and pernicious.

Don't be a sucker, don't #FeelTheBern. And that's a fact Jack. Deal with it.

Commies always have the tyrannical rulers who somehow have a more "fair" lifestyle than the people they suck the life out of. They often live like the kings they deposed. Go figure.

I love Dan Bongino. Shame he didn't get elected.

Ferocious battle at Paris migrant camp: Refugees armed with metal poles clash with vigilantes

Riot police used tear gas to disperse the crowd and arrested a drunk man who is thought to have thrown the first missile which sparked the chaos, Le Parisien reported.

The police are said to have been pelted with bottles and debris when they arrived at the scene of the fight between the homeless migrants and a so called 'anti crime brigade' from Stalingrad, which lies in the 19th arrondissement of Paris.

The video was filmed from the relative safety of a nearby apartment on the Boulevard de la Vilette.

At least four migrants were wounded in the riot, which was one of two that erupted last night. Both men were rushed to the nearby Lariboisière hospital for treatment.

Almost 1,000 migrants have arrived in the area in just over a month, many travelling from Calais having crossed the Mediterranean from Africa and the Middle East.
