Black Monday - Coaching Changes

The Browns have asked permission to talk to Josh McDaniels.

Among the possible replacements (via CBS’s Jason La Canfora and Cleveland.com) are Urban Meyer, the former Ohio State coach and Ohio native; New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels; and Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator Kevin Stefanski, a finalist for the Browns job a year ago. The Browns, ESPN reports, already have asked for permission to interview McDaniels.

I could see the Giants making a run at Cowher. I believe Cowher lives in NY now. The Giants showed interest in Cowher years ago but word was that Cowher did not want to be seen as helping force out Coughlin. This is a totally different situation. If you think Daniel Jones is the real deal then the Giants is a great job.

Saquon is a special talent. Sterling Shepard, Golden Tate and Darius Slayton are solid WRs. If they could add a playmaker in the draft, this WR group could be great. They may have found a good TE in Kaden Smith who had 14 receptions the last 2 weeks.

Giants just needs to build the OL and fix the defense. One good offseason and they could be contenders if Jones keeps improving and doesn’t pull a Trubisky.

If Cowher wants back in, this could be his best opportunity.

Cowher is an old man sitting in a cushy chair! He will never be back

Trade Tomlin to the Cowboys for Dak!

Im pimping that ride, lol

Tomlin is a top paid coach ( 7M/yr.) That's a lot of money for mediocrity.

When your greatest measure of success is never having a losing season, that is pretty much the definition of mediocrity.

I cannot imagine Cowher returning to the grind of the NFL when he is getting paid comparable money as an analyst and he gets a hell of a lot more free time. If he still had the itch to coach, he would have gone back to it a long time ago.

Im just making it easy for Jerry, not because i like Dak, lol

At the very least I would expect them to be looking for a good OL coach. There is no doubt or debate that this unit looked like it took the most decline of all.

Young Sarrett may be a good guy and a past Munchak disciple but the beating the Duck has been taking surely could have been tempered by some better coaching.Maybe it's just his inexperience and he'll get settled in and maybe not...who's to tell ?

jus sayin'...ya no

The thing that pissed me off the most about this oline is they continuously tried to run without putting their hands in the dirt. They just stayed with that stupid 2-point passing stance and got worked all year. If you wanna run the ball you gotta put your hand in the dirt and get lower than the guy opposite of you, not stand up play patty cake and dance all damn day.

Has anyone every been poached off the Steelers staff for a promotion?

I know the Steelers let a lot of coaches go because they wanted them gone, but I can't think of one who has left for a promotion when the team wanted to keep them. Munchak turned down opportunities, but he was a HC before coming to Pittsburgh. Going to Denver doesn't fit because his contract was expired.

tomlins coaching tree has zero branches

How is Jason Garrett not fired yet? Is it possible he could keep him? Jerry loves Garrett. Could he maybe keep him if he agrees to take on a fancy analytics team to help him make decisions? Maybe they are trying to work out some sort of front office position but with jerry and his son making all the decisions, he'd be a glorified cheerleader.

Most coaches go into broadcasting but from what i've heard in press conferences and interviews, Garrett has the personality of a rock.

Heard on the radio there was a rumor that Jerry was thinking of hiring Witten as head coach. That would be crazy.

I have the perfect coach for the Cowboys. Marvin Lewis.

Think about it, he's a good coach and more importantly, he's used to not having any say in personelle issues. He never said a bad word about cheapskate Mike Brown in Cincy and seemed to just be pleased to have a job. Sounds like the perfect guy for Jerry.

Garrett gets fired about 12 hours from now, book it.

Seems we are not alone in our criticism,

Over the final three games of the season, Mason Rudolph and Hodges were sacked a total of ten times. It’s all the odder given pass protection was strong for long stretches of the season. From Week 1 to Week 9, Steelers’ QBs were sacked eight total times. Over the second half of the year, that number spiked to 24.

Don’t chalk it up to throwing more either. Numbers don’t tell that story.

Pass Attempts Week 1-9: 269 (3.0% sack rate)
Pass Attempts Week 10-17: 249 (9.6% sack rate)

The only explanation is that Buffalo exploited a weakness, being able to send overload blitzes the Steelers weren’t ready for and young QBs like Hodges and Rudolph didn’t have the experience and ability to alter protections to pick them up. The Jets and Ravens copied and pasted that gameplan and the Steelers never properly adjusted. That falls on first year offensive line coach Shaun Sarrett, who was doing reasonably well prior to the Bills game. Then things fell apart. It’s now fair to at least question his role going forward, even if it’s unknown if the team would actually make a change after just one season.

Public Service Announcement:

Every time the Browns get a new coach it's time to change the batteries in your smoke detectors.

Injuries and the Fitz pickup bailed his *** out this season.

If Jason Garrett is fired, I see them offering Lincoln Riley the Job. Hell, I would need resuscitated if the Steelers fired Tomlin and picked him up. He's an X's and O's genius.

Dan Mullen is a name that is getting some buzz right now.

Matt Rhule is at or near the top of the list for New York and Carolina.

Jacksonville will keep Doug Marrone.

It's official in Washington.

Browns fired their GM John Dorsey after they couldn’t come to an agreement on future restructure of the organization. Sounds like he was told he would have no say in hiring the new coach so he left.
