Black Monday - Coaching Changes

At beginning of day none of the coaches that actually signed with a team was thought of for this team. Maybe it is Profootball talk is full of wind

I keep opening this thread to find rumors about fichtner getting cut, never happens

The moment I heard Tomlin say he was doing an "amazing job" (not just good or serviceable), I knew we were screwed.

One of my all time favorite Boomer nicknames:

Eric "Sleeping With" Bieniemy!

Boomer is that you hi-jacking Cope's account here on STEELERNATION.COM ?

Why hasn't the "GINGER" from Dallas been brought in to interview for OC job.?

We dont make changes until DC or oc are old enough to fake a retirement statement

Cleveland is last girl in the room, still waiting for someone to ask her to dance, lol

Or they may be playing it smart and wait for the playoffs to end so they can interview real stars in this league. I never understand jumping to grab a coach before the playoffs, when your best, young coaches are coaching in the playoffs. Instead the league jumps at fired coaches, or coaches with baggage before the 2nd week of the playoffs. Bide your time. Wait for your coaching prospects to be eliminated or interview during the off week before SB, that's how you find a real replacement.

This could be the first time the Browns get a good coach?

With Bienemy still available, you could be very right on this. If we were actually looking, Bienemy would be a serious look for me.

patience is very tough, but is powerful to your point.

trouble with the Browns, is they are the Browns. You have to think good candidates (and ones who are patient) have to be a bit cynical of going there. But a coach is going to be easier than a GM i think. the way they handled the GM position...makes the future gm seem like a lame duck...i wouldn't want it.

I wish I heard actual coaches being discussed for hire, the only thing I hear being talked about is that there aren’t enough black coaches being hired.. it’s literally the same conversation every year.

At this point, just hire all black head coaches.. doesn’t matter if their qualified or not, just hire them. The question is, would that be good enough? Something tells me, no.

The Browns boards were sure they were getting their top choice of McCarthy or Rhule

Guess not

Also one more point I want to say about timing. Sure, strike early if there is a stud coach, but if there is nothing, and the playoffs are starting. Really take that time to scout the remaining coaches and see how they react to the highest quality of opponents.

For GM, yes get that guy ASAP to help with drafting, FA. But coaching, we put too high of importance of the coach being needed for personnel decisions. Not the case. The team already has a scouting department that reports to the GM. The only thing the Coach will contribute in their first draft, is to get the kind of guys that fit the system they want to run. That can be done easily in a month, and they have about 2 after the superbowl.

The Browns have been disfunction junction for years now. I couldn't believe how long of a leash they gave Hue Jackson. They are a ship lost at sea with nobody steering and no destination in mind.
Wouldn't it be hilarious if they put all their faith in Josh McDaniels and he brought Brady along for the ride. I want the camera on Baker Mayfield's face when that got announced.
Or better still McDaniels changes his mind at the last minute again when Brady resigns with the Pats......
Like Hoot said.... who would want the GM job in Cleveland.... I guess the money makes up for the circus sideshow... but I don't agree with instituting a new HC prior to the GM hiring:uncomfortableness::uncomfortableness:

So the narrative now is that not enough black coaches got real looks. One guy was saying that teams need to "take a risk". Why does any team need to take a risk just for diversity's sake? The tide will turn when we are not talking about this ****. Guaranteed, NFL owners are color blind when it comes to winning, and that's where we should be.

It should be the best man for the job gets the job. Funny with hearing a person say take a risk. That is millions you are asking that owner to risk. I have no problem with them interviewing whatever color they wish but if it is three white men they feel that is best for the job so what, they shouldn't have to bring in coach that doesn't interest them. It is ridiculous.

Quit being racist.

Every year there is a black candidate that is identified as the next great coach and that’s it. He better get a head coaching job or else. This year it’s Bienemy. The problem with Bienemy is that nobody really knows how much of the offense is his. This is Andy Reid’s offense. Bienemy may be calling the plays but Reid is the main strategist. They also ignore that Bienemy is still in the playoffs. That always hurts a coach’s chances of getting a job. It has hurt McDaniel’s opportunities for years. The 49ers DC Saleh is in the same boat. He might have a HC job if the 49ers missed TE playoffs.

The other names they are pushing are Marvin Lewis and Jim Caldwell. Problem is that both have already failed as a HC. Maybe They could each get another shot but they are hardly the young innovator that most teams are looking for now. If you think Lewis and Caldwell need to be hired then you must think the same of guys like John Fox, Jason Garrett,

Browns hire that guy that was just spanked in the playoffs, never had a head coach job, 1-year experience as an OC

Bring training wheels!

Browns fans were SURE they had top pick of McCarthy, Rivera, Schwartz, Rhule, Saleh

Vikings fans are literally thanking them on Twitter, lol

After stating they wanted someone with HC experience earlier on ......they choose the guy with the 2nd least amount of experience on the list of candidates
Robert Saleh a little less on the list just shut the Vikes down big time on the national stage.
Yeah lets sign the guy that just got stoned.......... I am sure OBJ and Baker Mayfield are just ecstatic.....
As a steeler fan I guess I am happy with their thought process........given all their past choices ..... it seems like they will continue their dumb assery

The guy came up through the Vikings ranks as QB coach. While the CLE brass said somethings publicly about what they wanted (those comments are limited for fans consumption; never show your hand), I suspect that a high priority was getting a guy who could help Mayfield. Getting BM to the next level will do more for that team than anything else. Whether he will be a competent HC...time will tell.
