Cam Heyward wants a new deal

I got a feeling he is gonna drop early. Individual drills dont ready you for a real football game. He's gonna soft tissue out.
Yep....Cam will be having a subpar year. Maybe the Steelers will want to renegotiate next years salary after this season..... YOU READING THIS CAM?!!!! Take your F***ing notes and screenshots....you acted like a little biitch.

Now get to work.

I highly doubt he will play all four seasons nor that in the last two he will be putting up huge numbers.
Plenty of premier pass rushers have had successful seasons at the age of 34. And if your doubt does somehow become warranted, the Steelers can simply exit the contract with just a $10 million cap hit after year 3.

I can't imagine anyone like Watt as a player more then me. I just dont believe giving non QB's similar money to that position. Especially as a third contract. EVEN if he plays at as high a level as he did in his second contract........what did they win there?

I don’t think you are considering what QBs are making now and the increase in cap space. His cap hit went down as a percentage of the cap from his last contract.

Unfortunately that's the market, and I think the fact we aren't paying top tier QB money to a QB that really helped, and even if we draft a QB in round 1 this coming year and he pans out, by the time we give him his big contract, Watt's deal will be expired. If you look at the % of his contract in comparison to the NFL cap, it's a less % of the cap than his 2nd contract.

So Lamar Jackson makes about 40 million this year. Then he makes a little less then double Watt money for two years. Then he is likely in renegoatiation. But he is a QB. And I just dont believe a non qb can effect the game that way. The money this team has hooked into Watt, DK and Ramsey. All guys on the downside of their careers just is not a good idea. Sorry. Proof will be in the pudding. Let's see them win a playoff game. Now you might point to this or that reason. Well if you are going to throw that kinda cake at three players they have to be reasons why you win division and a playoff game.

How many playoff wins will it take to constitute the money spent…?

Will a squeaked by WC playoff game win with a 19.5 point loss in a division game be enough ?

BIG change3 will have to happen before they become a legitimate contender. If the OC has instilled an actual offensive NFL game plan / scheme, huge strides can be made.

The defense needs a scheme change as well………… will that happen

My point is just how much change the Tomlin will allow……… ?

Unfortunately none of the cap hits can account for poor scheme/strategy, lack of in-game adjustments, or poor in-game decision making.

But who knows.....maybe this season will open with the first down play being a post for DK or a seam route for Smith/Muth. Lol

Exactly, if you're going to pay Watt all that money, come up with a damn scheme that doesn't constantly allow him to be double teamed and chipped. They made Minkah the highest paid safety in the NFL after an all pro season, then the schematic genius made him a glorified center fielder.

My sisters husband is a big wig in Germany and he is always looking for that bigger check. He is not afraid to uproot and chase. It works for him, just not for me I spent too much of my life here there and everywhere I try to stay a little more grounded now.
I love this comment.

I was the same person, as your brother-in-law. Chasing money and fancy titles.

I don't want to make this a religious thing, but, it is so please - give me a pardon as I provide more context.

While I doing all that 'paper chasing' - I forgot about how I got there and who allowed me to get there. The Man Upstairs. God knocked me smack into the dirt back in April and He's been teaching me exactly what @slashsteel stated. I've applied with nearly 300 companies, and just this week, doors are opening for interviews. Yes, the money is much less, but over the past month and a half, the state of Utah caught up with me and garnished over a grand from my checks every 2 weeks - guy punch us, but we've learned to live with less income and both opportunities are right there where my lessened income has been.

I'm done with the chase. My feet are grounded and I'm ready to live a simpler life!!!

LAst year we far better in the second half of games than the first, this destroys the in-game adjustments argument. It does however bring into question the first quarter planning.

This. Hense I really dont think this money spent will get anything. Watt will entertain us. Ramsey and DK will be interesting. Bout it.

Imagine watching Heyward's season end 3 games in and watching a 41 year old Rodgers hoist the Lombardi. That would be unbelievably satisfying for 90% of Steelernation.

Why would seeing him out be satisfying? I don't get the stupid hate.

Yeah, and I loved me some Ben Roethlisberger, too. He was a pretty good quarterback, right? But he went 3-7 in the playoffs over his last 11 years, which included much of the prime of his career. What did he win over a full decade, besides beating AJ McCarron, Matt Moore, and Alex Smith?

The Steelers' poor record without Watt on the field is well-documented. The guy is one of the best players in the world at his position, and he was going to get paid by somebody. The only other option was to watch him hold out and walk next year. Not a good choice for Pittsburgh.

I think the “better in the 2nd half” is more a thing of desperation in general. The desperation to actually put some points up as points are an essential component of winning and things of that nature.

Mike’s strategy is, and has been: to shorten games, play ultra conservative, limit possessions and try to win by 3. It’s what he does…especially early when the end of the game is nowhere in sight.

Only in the 2nd half does he start to loosen up a bit as a matter of desperation as the 9 points he put up in the first half isn’t enough to stand pat on…but only if his conservative scheme hasn’t allowed him to keep with the clock killing, possession limiting scheme of his…if the 9 first half points looks like it could be enough by all means…stand pat and keep killing that clock.

I’d say more than anything it’s not so much adjustments but him being reactive to the situation/climate of how the game is unfolding that causes a level of urgency/desperation to break his ultra conservative tendencies.

I’d say the most shocking thing is how utterly unprepared they look in general heading into games. I couldn’t dig up the stat of how many times we received the opening kickoff last year (but it seemed we did the majority of games played) BUT damn 2.7 pts per game in the first quarter is ABYSMAL any way ya slice it. The futility we open games with just shows an absolute lack of solid preparation throughout the week.

I think the first quarter futility plays largely into the points scored by half as they average about 6.7 in the 2nd, 6.3 in the 3rd and 6.2 in the 4th.

If Mike could adjust and have the team ready from the jump they’re right at 25-26 points a game which would put them in that 8-9 range for offensive production that when coupled with what will definitely be a historic defense should easily put them in contention for something more meaningful. Just have to figure out how to come out ready, ez peezy for someone compensated as he is

Agreed........but probably same results whole lot of nothing.

Don’t lump me in on the negative NANCY bull-****.

I don’t want anyone hurt, but that is part of the game.

I can dang-well tell you right now…… If we win a Lombardi, regardless of who gets hurt, I’m going to be satisfied !!!!!!

This! Hoping someone is hurt much less a Steelers player is just stupid. And honestly Cam has been mostly a great ambassador for the team. Half expecting an injury because the guy probably isnt prepared to play isnt the same as hoping for it.

Yeah....I picked up the same thing during our playoff loss to the Ravens when they had Watt crash down on Henry play after play...quarter after quarter without any adjustments. James Harrison was said to have gone over late in the 3rd quarter and started bitching to the defensive coaches asking when they were going to make an adjustment.
