College Bowls and News

Nobody knows the rule. It's so inconsistent, But sometimes when somebody gets drilled in the head, they don't kick the guy out but let the flag stand. This time they conveniently for the SEC team ruled for the no penalty at all. Field goal instead of first and goal.
I thought it looked like he led with his shoulder, made contact with his shoulder etc., but I've been drinking. The dude definitely got hit hard.

Unless it's a team I hate, and barring circumstances that would warrant rooting against them, I tend to pull for teams in my conference, geographic area etc. I guess there are lots of variables.

Iowa defenses. What? UK was minus their starting qb and number 1 and 2 rbs. All these bowl games suck with all the players sitting out.

It is sad what it's come to. But Iowa does have a hell of a D. If they had half an offense, they'd be a legit top ten.

I agree. Bowl Games aren't quite the same now that a lot of the players that get you there choose not to play. Those players should be forced to suck some c0ck. A bowl full of c0ck. The C0ck Bowl.

As a Kentucky native, that game was hard to watch. Iowa's defense did look good, and Kentucky looked as if they might suck. Kentucky's defense actually looked good too, but Iowa's offense is probably a known weakness. I haven't checked the stats, but Ky might have outgained Iowa. Unlike the playoff games, there was pretty much no offense in that game. I wasted 3+ hours watching that mess.

So I think the targeting non calls in both games were made correctly, but college football’s rule is so convoluted that it is easy to not understand why something is or isn’t targeting… they need to do what the NHL did for head hits and suspendable actions and put out clarifying videos on each targeting call after the game… and legitimately explain why the call was or wasn’t right.

The rule is clarified in multiple different sections of the rulebook so its easy to isolate a part and take it out of context…

Basically here it is in a nutshell.. if a player initiates contact with an opponent in a way trying to cause a forceful hit to the area above the shoulders rather than a technical tackle or block , it is targeting…

it doesn’t really have to be the crown of the helmet either, although that’s what the base rule says… it’s further clarified that a forearm shiver or elbow or anything else trying to cause hard impact to the head rather than a regular tackle is targeting…

However not all contact to the head is illegal… since its meant to eliminate plays where the defensive player is trying to cause forceful impact to the head area, plays where he hits below the shoulders and the aftermath causes him to incidentally contact the head afterwards would usually not be targeting as well as plays where the defensive player is making a textbook heads up tackle and the offensive player drives his helmet into him… it’s complicated the way they wrote it and im sure most refs struggle with it a lot

SEC got all the calls in the 4th quarter. Shocking.

The obvious targeting that apparently concussed Harrison but was reversed to save the day for Georgia
The stop on 4th down out of bounds that got reversed that saved the day for Georgia.
The successful fake punt where Georgia was given a time out to save the day for Georgia, again.
Don't forget the entire line was illegally downfield on Georgia's first TD.
Georgia's phony injuries on the last drive to give the pass rushers and DBs a chance to rest.
The Buckeye defender inexplicably falling down to give up a huge play.
Marvin Harrison being kept out of the game, even though it was ruled he DID NOT take a shot to the head.
The Buckeye DBs up on the line against the WRs when they should have been backed off (just like the Michigan game)
All the uncalled holds on every big Georgia run.
The Buckeyes forgetting how to block when they got to the 30 at the end.
The kick by an extremely reliable kicker that wasn't even close.

Damn, that looked scripted and rigged as hell.
But the Buckeyes covered the spread, which had dropped from 6.5 to 5 from all the late betting.

I'm losing faith in sports being real. I really am.

Yes, I'm pissed and bitter. How did the Buckeyes lose this game?

Need some cheese with that whine?

Both TCU and Ohio State played great. What a weekend for college football.

Have you ever made toad chili?

Is that like making a pass at a toad and she gives you the “cold” shoulder…….. then he probably has……….

Salute the nation

Jezz in the rhelm of 200 points between the two semi finals. It's pathetic what the rules have done to defense. You might as well just load up on good guessing ballhawk dbs and hope for the best.

Couldn't watch the Georgia game, how did both OLines play?

Lol, all of those calls were correct either on the field or by review. The Georgia player going down on the last drive gave Ohio State a free timeout twice. The bitterness is definitely coming out.

I thought the targeting was obviously not targeting, but I make no claim to know the rule.
TCU against Michigan was a clear targeting that would’ve been called at any other point during the game. The Georgia player was absolutely not targeting, not even close really.

Georgia got lucky Harrison Jr. was hurt early. He was unstoppable in the 1st half with his 2 TD catches. But, that shiznit happens.

I actually didn't even see the targeting stuff in the Michigan game. I quit watching after the botched snap etc. on 4th down. I did see that they were reviewing something, but I never really paid attention and had no idea what they were reviewing.

It really wasn’t though… the guy didn’t target the head… there may have been some incidental contact after the principal point of contact, but just because he lowered his head doesn’t immediately cause it to be targeting … they just have to take that rule and explain it way better
