What a house.

350 (though at times closer to 400) of beef. Think he makes this team? I think the deck is stacked against him - He's tall, so unless he learns to get those pads down he'll get isolated or cut down easy, and he's way too immobile for DE.

If he pans out though, good luck moving him.

The dude is six-seven, he can just push the pile a yard then put his arms up to block the pass.

If not they stash him on the practice squad. He could be the guy but it is not likely.

He makes the team and Fangupo doesn't. Rather have a project with great potential upside taking the roster spot that doesn't dress on game days.

I really liked this guy early in the offseason due to the size then someone here is a Tennessee fan and he pointed out how for his size he didn't do much. I watched the film and was a little sour on him but maybe the fire gets lit and that would be great for us cause he has the size to really be a monster. For where we drafted him we can't go wrong with taking a chance on him, I for one have been a guy who has said our NT position was one of our biggest needs.

I think he makes it given the lack of true depth at the NT position. Remember, these aren't the days of Hampton and Hoke to compete with on the roster. Raw but tremendous upside potential with his size.

I don't know much about Tennessee's surrounding cast he played with, but imagine how this guy could plug the middle with Heyward and Tuitt playing along side of him, And Worilds, Timmons, Shazier, and Jones right behind him? He would split time with McClendon no doubt but with a little grooming could be a monstor in the middle.

You're on to something...

Yes I can imagine and thats why I like the pick. I was real high before all the combine and bowl games then kinda softened on him but don't get me wrong I like him.

At 6'-7" and 350 plus, he just needs to stand in the middle with his arms in the air. He can reach to almost 10 feet. He is immovable. For a 3-4 D, if he can demand double teams in the middle and get some push, that is really all you want. He's not supposed to put up flashy numbers. He just needs to occupy a double team.

Love the idea of plugging McCullers & Tuitt in from day one. McClendon would be perfect to rotate in, keeping both NT's fresh. Tuitt & Hayward could be the two linemen in certain packages. Love the versatility of this group.

love the idea of putting them in when they beat the man in front of them

This sounds great until the opposition runs zone blocking. Apparently he can't move and is easily cut.

I watched two games of his. In one the opposing team clearly schemed around him as their linemen could not move him At all. In the other three offense just put bodies on him to cut him down. So as a nose tackle he's intriguing as hell. Problem is he has zero technique and NFL linemen will remove him easily.

I thought I read in his bio he was not strong at the point of attack, and was stopped by one blocker and moved or turned when two were involved. The kid is a project at this point and may take a year to improve enough to be serviceable. I would not put a lot into just his measurables at this point, since effort and technique may be issues in his game. If they are he may be covering ten feet of turf while stretched out on the ground away from the play. With that being said I do like his potential and if he responds to coaching well he could really be something, we will see. One thing that looks promising in this draft for a lot of these kids is the team is rebuilding, lots of players out or on their way and the team is looking for replacements. We may see many of them on the team as the competition ahead of them is not all that great right now.

Zero chance.
And McClendon is good

we only ran our base D like 35% of defensive snaps last year, I'd like to see a guy with that size used as a DT on passing downs, instead of 2 DL like we usually use, go with him, heyward, and McClendon/Tuitt, 3lb's, then 5db's and tell McCullers to just push your man into the qb's lap, we really lacked any pressure up the middle last season.

McCullers has all the size in the world. From what I recall seeing of him (since I do not get to watch many Vols games down here in Trampa), I seem to recall him being moved easily. Though he was usually doubled or tripled. A man his size just demands some attention from the OL.

That said, he absolutely needs some work. He came to the Vols when Derek Dooley was coaching. When Dooley was axed, he stayed on to honor his scholarship...though it was likely to improve his draft grade. I think he needs some coaching and someone to light a fire under his ***. If the light comes on for him, then we've snagged a diamond.

john Mitchell in his press conference said he wants him to get down by 10-20 lbs and he said with camp conditions he should shed 10-20 lbs.
If so he should then make the team.

getting moved on a double or triple team is being moved easily?

that's not what I meant, at all. That came out wrong.

Seemed he got moved, then was doubled and worked out of the play.
if that makes sense.

Pad level.

Tall guys have to play low and he has pad level issues. The physical ability is there, the weight is there, he just needs to play with better leverage so guys can't get under him. Flat back, bent knees. This is a tough technique to master, but if he does he'll be a star. So the two questions are:

1. Is he coachable

2. Is he well coached.

If both can be answered in the affirmative, he may be here for some time.
