Day Three - Draft

McCormick is a good player. He was talked about as a possible Center if the steelers missed out on the top 3. But they got Frazier.

This is the Eagles strategy Weidle brought with him. They are constantly drafting OL years ahead of when they need them. That's why the Eagles had Jason Kelce retire and they are not in need for Center. They drafted his replacement 2 years ago.

This is a replacement for one of the Guards in a few years.

I didn't think they would go with another lineman, but it makes complete sense with both guards on short-term deals. No pressure for him to perform early yet has the talent to be a future starter. They had very good things to say about him on ESPN and then there's this:

 
IOL backup and developmental G starter, I guess they really don't trust mid round CBs

On one hand we have other needs this season. On the other hand we're really just building for the future. I highly doubt we'll be in win now mode this season.

I really like we're committed to fixing the OL finally.

I think this is a part of this pick as well. I was looking at WR and didn't like any options here. Same with DB. Same with DT after Jefferson off the board. I thought TE could be possible with Theor Johnson but he's gone.

I actually thought RB Jaylen Wright as a speed back could have been possible or even QB Michael Pratt because nothing stood out.

McCormick was best player available.

Doing that seems like a luxury more than a necessity a this point, given the more glaring depth issues at DL, CB and WR, same with Patrick Wilson

Loved the first three picks, not so much the last two, though I do like the players.

It might be a case of the Steelers having them too highly rated to pass up where they took them.

They don't bring in Russell Wilson if they didn't plan on contending this year.

They might be a bit more comfortable with the DL and CB situations than we assumed.
 
Should be some fierce competition on our O-line. I think everybody’s game will be raised just by the level of competition in the old line room.

This is going to be a top 3-5 O-Line. BOOK IT

Or a case of whoever they were targeting at those positions weren't there.

Russell kind of fell into their lap. This is not a win or bust season. It is a get better and compete every week this season though. I really feel if everything stays on course the 2025 season is the target.

I get the feeling Arthur Smith is putting his stamp on this team along with Khan and Weidel. Two years ago I would have said our place kicker was our 5th or 6th best player. That's not even close to the case anymore.

Yep a G who can blow open holes in the run game and has a very high RAS. Tape nailed the future implications. I could see this guy as a starter down the road.

Yep I put him in my post earlier in this thread as a guy I could see us taking, I love McCormick, no way he wasn't high on their board and still sitting there

One thing the fans can’t complain about that they didn’t stay true to their board. This is how you fortify trenches.

Sutton met with Tomlin and Kahn ............. charges were lowered in severity ........ he will probably get some sort of suspension from the NFL ....... but we know what we are getting and he will be a lot cheaper this time around ......
 
I didn't realize that both Fautanu and McCormick came to visit the Steelers for a pre draft visit on the same day this month. I guess the team liked what they saw.

And he can play inside. They have nobody for that.
