Given Houston's OL problems does anyone think that the NFL sack record of 14 by Philadelphia could fall this weekend? Derrick Thomas' record of 7 sacks could also be under threat given Alex Highsmith's somewhat green opponent.

Watching the Bengals defense tee off on the Rams OL in the 4th quarter on Monday night causes me to think that Houston will have a similar fate against the likes of Watt, Highsmith, Herbig, Golden, Benton and Larry O - not to mention other potential free blitzers like Minkah, Riley, Robinson, Roberts and Holcomb. I get the feeling that one of the two records will fall.

Nah, things never play out as expected… you face a team that looks like tgey are terrible in a certain area you are strong in and somehow they totally mitigate it that one game…
Its not the Tomlin way to gameplan for another team's weakness, or adjust in-game to obvious situations.

I am still pissed about the SB with GB when the Packers lost all the starters in their secondary and the Steelers coach, with Big Ben, refused to alter the game plan to take advantage of the mis-matches.

Tomlin will " play back" all game and wait for the rookie to make a mistake. He will not release the hounds.
This feels so Steelery it almost has to happen lol..

They are down their top 3 tackles… have most of their line playing out of position, have no run game to speak of, and we will play flood and rush him with only 2 or 3 guys….

The Bengals has a pair of outside pass rushers that rival the Steelers...

Impressed with both those players..

The Bengals are going to need it this season too...I see Burrow having a down year due to his physical issues..

Their QB is too mobile. I'd be surprised. I would like to see Watt get 2+ sacks though.

Mine was 3+ but will take what he gives us (7).

If Watt can gets 2-3 sacks he would have a legit shot at being the single season record holder all alone. He is obviously on pace but it is early. If he leaves week 4 with 9 sacks under his belt he would have to average one a game to be all by himself.

I don’t think their ends are even in the stratosphere of the Steelers olbs…

Their offensive line is in Horrific shape!

These are the injuries across their OL

LT Tunsil OUT Josh Jones OUT Charlie Heck OUT DJ Scaife IR
LG Josh Jones OUT Nick Broeker (Not Starting) Kendrick Green Starting
C Michael Deiter Questionable Patterson/Green Backups Scruggs IR
RG Shaq Mason Nick Broeker (Both Healthy)
RT George Fant Healthy, All Depth behind him gone Josh Jones, Charlie Heck OUT Tytus Howard IR

Jones was the starting LG, and slid to LT, then got injured. If Deiter doesn't play this will be a very difficult game for Houston if the Steelers can stop the run. Deiter is also not listed as as starting a game since 2021, so this is a tough game for him even if he is 100%, which he won't be. This game could get very ugly. There is a chance for 3 practice squad caliber players who may be starting this week.

I hear what you are saying but didn't pretty much this same team just beat the Jags?

Nope. Watt went up against a 4th round 6 foot 15 inch rookie that weighted 2000 pounds last week and was pretty much silent for most of the game. Yeah he got a sack. And then picked up a fumble that Highsmith caused and returned it for a TD.....I think Watt doesn't even get a sack this week.🤥

Benton and the Big "O" will have eye opening plays. The outside guys will be the usual disruptors!

The "Tomlin Effect."

No, Jones' injury is a cascade affect. With no LT depth, They are now going to have to start a UDFA Rookie at LT. Not what you want from your young QB. If Deiter doesn't play at Center, that could spell disaster since Green is their most experienced center but he's playing LG. The line may have to completely reshuffle again which creates a line that has never played together, so I expect missed blocking assignments and balls on the ground from the QB/C exchange.

Not going to happen. Hell with Steelers offense won't even predict win. But two backup Tackles....I'd be disappointed with less than three edge sacks. Usual Tomlin **** up loss. But we shall see.

I like your thinking but those are lofty records regardless of our opponent...

Because of all the OL injuries, Tomlin will call for ALL 11 players to drop into coverage on every play, except for when he calls for a full house blitz on 5th down.
