I agree with what TMC posted about space eating DLs. But that's why I don't get the pick. Shazier is no help in the run game behind McLendon. He would need to be behind a space eater like Hampton. Maybe they picked him because our LBs suck in coverage.

I basically agree with this.

I don't dislike the player, in general, I just REALLY do not understand how he makes them better.

Hard for me to not like the Pack a little more now with Lacy AND Ha Ha. Can't say the same for the Ravens with Upshaw and Mosely. Those guys are now dead to me.

Could be...funny thing is, Spence, Timmons and Shazier are all 'mack' type LBs. I think Timmons blew too many assignments last year and a move to 'buck' might be warranted but he doesn't stack and shed well either. I am happy to get Troy back to SS but we certainly have an awful lot invested at the Mack. I'm not the least bit worried about size/weight as both Farrior and Foote played as light as 225 but almost always under 235#. Shazier give us a lot of options for blitz schemes too. I just don't know why you give up on Spence AFTER he's finally back UNLESS you have a different plan to use both if healthy?

Mosley/Shazier were top of the draft class at ILB with a large drop-off after that. Mosley had medical issues and Shazier is more flexible and can get to the QB. We might need help with scheme to get pressure until/we get our OLBs up to speed.

I don't mind the pick, I would have been all over Mosley if he didn't have the medical. Just didn't realize the team would "push" for an ILB even though it was our weakest position last year (with Spence on the mend). I think Spence is going to make things hard on Butler to find a spot for Shazier after all that hard work getting back. Shazier can at least take Troy's spot in the box away from him but I'm hoping we won't need him.

Not maybe, has already been said. Timmons moves over, Shazier will take his spot when Shazier is ready. Colbert and Tomlin said they would be moving some guys around, when Shazier was ready....down the road.

I certainly think he can be. David had the same 'concerns' with being undersized (though he is not), needed to get stronger to get of blocks (often getting 'locked up') in the run game and needed to improve his instincts to elude traffic. Shazier is virtually the same player with better speed and instincts. I'll take it if he turns out like LD.
