Draft discussion thread.

Moving Timmons to the buck, Shazier is the mack.

Goodnight all thanks for sharing your insights and thoughts.

One scout called Shazier a "bigger, faster LaVonte David".

I just don't get what the **** they're doing and haven't for several years now.

Until the Tomlin/Colbert combination is broken up, I may have to suspend my support of the team.

It has become THAT bad, from my perspective.

I never thought I'd see a LB corps with 3 firsts and a 2d round pick that would worry me. Oh well, hopefully they make me eat my words.

at least we didnt take Nix...yet

Timmons (speed)...Spence (speed)....Shazier(speed).. All have great closing speed. I hope Spence still has his...

Worst pick of the draft, we have a winner. James is not good and could be had in the 3rd.

yeah, and Shazier was just flat out awesome?

I've already stated who I'd rather have taken.

Between the buckeyes, I'd be much more inclined to select Shazier over Roby

I keep reading that his frame is thin. Any chance they move him to the secondary with his speed or he is a LB, plain and simple?

Why didn't we trade down with Miami? Martin is a ton better than their pick.

My nephew was born tonight.

I was hoping a future hall of famer was drafted.

I'm disappointed. You better ******* prove me wrong!

I agree with what TMC posted about space eating DLs. But that's why I don't get the pick. Shazier is no help in the run game behind McLendon. He would need to be behind a space eater like Hampton. Maybe they picked him because our LBs suck in coverage.

yeah, tomlin is the ONLY one with input in the war room

It is true that Colbert's drafts turned to **** since Tomlin arrived.

Don't let the door hit you....

There's 31 other teams in the league.....have at it sir.

Not sure how every teams have players ranked but from everything I read we could have traded back to get Shazier. Just kinda caught me off guard with this pick, lots oif names been tossed around here his was not talked about much....

Don't you have to have a willing partner to trade back? Was there some indication that someone offered to trade up so the Steelers could trade back?

dennard clinton dix roby dopped big from last mocks

We are getting faster on defense. That´s always a good thing in a passing league with these hybrid TE´s that are as fast as WRs. He will be a hell of a blitzer up the middle. We have the best LB coach in the league and have just added Porter to boot. We´ll be fine.

Why is weight always a deciding factor on whether a guy can get it done or not? Weight means nothing to a football player. James Farrior played in the 230 range. If the Steelers get good play from the Nose and DEs, we will be fine..

Could be...funny thing is, Spence, Timmons and Shazier are all 'mack' type LBs. I think Timmons blew too many assignments last year and a move to 'buck' might be warranted but he doesn't stack and shed well either. I am happy to get Troy back to SS but we certainly have an awful lot invested at the Mack. I'm not the least bit worried about size/weight as both Farrior and Foote played as light as 225 but almost always under 235#. Shazier give us a lot of options for blitz schemes too. I just don't know why you give up on Spence AFTER he's finally back UNLESS you have a different plan to use both if healthy?

Mosley/Shazier were top of the draft class at ILB with a large drop-off after that. Mosley had medical issues and Shazier is more flexible and can get to the QB. We might need help with scheme to get pressure until/we get our OLBs up to speed.

I don't mind the pick, I would have been all over Mosley if he didn't have the medical. Just didn't realize the team would "push" for an ILB even though it was our weakest position last year (with Spence on the mend). I think Spence is going to make things hard on Butler to find a spot for Shazier after all that hard work getting back. Shazier can at least take Troy's spot in the box away from him but I'm hoping we won't need him.

There is a reason Farrior would fly untouched into the backfield of the opposing team's backfield. Instincts and 3 names. Smith, Hampton and Kiesel

All the Steelers have to do now is go back in time to when they had Aaron Smith, Kemo, and Hampton and their ILBs could run free and make tackles.
