Flores has arrived

His experience with Billycheat*’s 3-4 knowledge should be good for TJ. Hopefully he can turn Bush around too.

Wow! I was hoping he would get a look at the DC position before TA was promoted so this is great news!

Senior Defensive Assistant…that’s a new title for the Steelers, no?

That is probably what lured him in. Good. Can we get an offensive assistant too?

I mean Canada is offensive but that doesn't count.

What's the odds Tomlin will let him call the D?

Like when I get to add to the good decision list. That I think makes two.
😅

What could be more Tomlin like than letting the assistant call the defense over the DC.

Wouldn't technically a defensive assistant be over a DC? I am just guessing here...

I’m thinking Flores is just behind Tomlin and Mitchell in the hierarchy.

And ahead of Tomlin in coaching acumen and ability.
Yep…Tomlin can just be CEO and leave the Xs and Os to his assistants and coaches. Yeah, sure 😭

Possibly but in my mind defensive assistant sound like a subordinate to the DC. Not sure where the "special" modifier fits into the hierarchy. I would have thought that it would be assistant head coach to be over a coordinator.

Kinda makes you wonder if they didn't put out feelers to Flores about the DC position and were turned down because he thought he was getting a HC job. Then, after they hired Austin and Flores filed the lawsuit, they pulled a "Haskins": "Might as well come over here now Brian, you're not getting a better offer anyplace else in the league."

sounds about right, LB coach and assistant to the DC. Flores and Austin could be a lethal combo running the D. Something tells me that HCMT is going to step back and let them run the D.

Austin was a a senior defensive assistant as well. He was supposedly brought in to help with replay reviews and oversee the secondary. The secondary is obviously Austin's specialty so I think he'll focus on the front seven.

I know Austin was promoted from within, but he did good work and the Steelers have a good defensive coaching staff. Last year was damaged due to injuries more than anything else. But with coaches like Austin, Flores, Dunbar, and Jerry O., there are some very good coaches on this side of the ball. I wish we could say the same about the offensive staff.

So many thinking this is a future replacement for HC, when it’s a strategic hire. Once the lawsuit is resolved and Flores shows an Improvement in the LBs (namely Bush), if and when he gets another HC chance it’s PIT that gets the compensation.

I hope it doesn’t allow a distraction to the team. But one thing that concerns me, where does that put Coach Olasavaky? Is he still ILB coach?

I think Butler was also LB coach with olsavky at the same time. Guess it will be something similar. The more the merrier I suppose

Teams usually have two or three lb coaches these days… an ilb and olb and overall guy… just like they have two secondary coaches or two oline coaches schemes are complex enough to need multiple coaches working with multiple guys simultaneously
