Flores has arrived

For the millionth time, the ratio of players in the nfl has absolutely positively nothing to do with head coaches… most successful head coaches didn’t play in or barely played in the nfl…

Seriously McVay? Reid? Arians? Tomlin? belicheater? Heck had Sean Payton not gotten one horrible start as a strikebreaker in 87, he would have never sniffed tge NFL as a player

The black population makes up about 14% of the country… assuming all men are created equal and there are tge same amount of people with the mental acumen to be coaches in every segment of the population, then there should be about 5 or 6 black head coaches, but there also should be a lot more hispanic coaches and even some asian coaches…

now nothing works perfectly like that, and they definitely need a better system… but quotas and token interviews probably won’t work as well as an actual training program and maybe an independent interview system built to promote all good prospects regardless of color… many owners aren’t football guys so they only know trendy names

The other big issue is for whatever reason black coordinators tend to be defensive guys and the league is trending to the offense… getting more black offensive coordinators might help a lot…

To be honest with you I don't care what he is suing the NFL for. He either wins or doesn't. Regardless I don't think it impacts the Steelers negativity from a team building standpoint. I think he can impact in the win column. That is all I want for the team to win. Win honestly of course (thinking of others not on the team) but just win. Let us be honest our new DC has some question marks as does our play caller. So if he can positively impact those areas the items I formally threw across the living room will appreciate the hire.

I agree I think as a head coach up to a team to evaluate that. But some of that head butting might be just imposing a will to win. If so we can use some shake up in a room that seems to consistently be inconsistent.

I for some reason don't think Bill handed out feel free to cheat cards while he was in house. The less people who knew the less of a paper trail he had. I always thought it was just him and Ernie and Tommy getting heads up in headsets. As long as those three aren't arriving in Pittsburgh I am a'ight.

Well said X 3

For me easily. Austin I just feel is better suited as DB coach.

Regardless shake that side of the ball up. If only they would shake the O up as well..
Give it a year. I'm thinking that Flores either gets hired somewhere else as HC or made DC here and Austin gets something that looks like a promotion, say Assistant Head Coach and King's Page Of The Back Stairs.

I'm afraid that his lawsuit, reports of him not talking with other coaches, Him being in a "subordinate " position , will all be distractions to this team. He will potentially "challenge " Tomlins authority, and football acumen.

We may not get a positive outcome that many here are counting on.

Shake up could be a good thing because currently we are all just sitting here with a thumb up are ***** watching nothing happn. If Florez questions Tomlin that is NOT a bad thing considering what we get with Tomlin calling the deffensive shots.

Spice it up, wiggle that thumb, QUESTION coach tomlin, what ever it takes.........................................

Again, interesting. For my part I don't get the pearl clutching over the race-based claims. They're either something he and his lawyers can prove or they're not. If they're not, Flores will look like an idiot. If they are provable .....

In any event, a lot of folks are acting like those claims personally affect them, when the fact is that they only personally affront them. Which actually puts the race-based claims on par with the tanking claims. They also don't personally affect anyone, only affront. Unless of course, you consider the integrity of the game to be something that affects you personally as a fan.

I don't see any merit at all in the racial portion. He's suing the Texans, just because... He's suing the Broncos because he says they are racist and didn't take him seriously but that ignores that Elway had previously hired a black head coach, Vance Joseph.

As for the Giants, it was his dream job because he grew up in Brooklyn and Belichick got his hopes up. He is saying that the Giants already had their minds made up and therefore interviewing him was some form of racism. How exactly?

What is the remedy to this? There seem to be only 2 options. One, there is a flat out quota. There must be X number of black head coaches every year no matter what. Two, teams do a much better job of lying about who they really want and have even more token interviews with coaches of all colors just to try to hide that they knew who they wanted all along.

How else do you get rid of the alleged "token" interviews? SHould you be forced to state publicly that you already have a guy in mind but please interview anyway. Maybe some black coaches would still take the interview just to get experience in the process, but maybe none would want to interview. What then? Do you fine that team for not interviewing 2 minority candidates when the minority candidate declined to be interviewed?

So again, it seems there's either a quota where you force a team to hire a minority coach, or you encourage teams to do a better job of lying about not having a candidate in mind.

You want the real kicker in all of this. I bet the Giants would have hired Flores as HC in 2020 if he hadn't taken the Dolphins job in 19. Think about it. NY hired the young Pats assistant Joe Judge. Flores was on the same staff and had more experience. I bet if he turns down the Miami job in 19, he gets the Giants job in 2020.
