Global Heat: Britain longest heatwave in 42 years, deadly heat in Japan and Arctic

Bottom right. 1975. The 'media'.

They did make one honest observation... "Our knowledge of the mechanisms of climactic change is at least as fragmentary as our data...". English - "we have no idea what we're doing."

The climate tools should have to wear baseball hats sporting that quote.

It's 11F here this morning. The polar vortex hits tonight. They say that the HIGH tomorrow will be -4 and windchill could reach -40.

In the beautiful Midwest, windchill temperatures are reaching minus 60 degrees, the coldest ever recorded. In coming days, expected to get even colder. People can’t last outside even for minutes. What the hell is going on with Global Waming? Please come back fast, we need you!twitter.com/realDo...

From that article -
Climatologists are pessimistic that political leaders will take any positive action to compensate for the climactic change, or even to allay its effects.

Must be in the job description of climatologists that they are pessimistic. LOL.

Thank you Al Gore! Feel that warmth!

Some schools around here already announced that they are cancelled for both tomorrow and Thursday.

Below zero in the 'Burgh the next two days. Wind chill -20's. Put a piece of cardboard over the grille of my truck tonight with bungee cords.

I heard Chicago's wind chill could get to -60 degrees below tonight, that's insane. Can't imagine Wisconsin and Minnesota right now. Stay safe all.

Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows, which has received more than six feet of snow in this latest winter storm, had to close all lifts Monday because of whiteout conditions, high winds and avalanche dangers.

Remember this NYT article from 2014 - The End of Snow - https://www.nytimes.com/2014/02/08/opinion/sunday/the-end-of-snow.html

The planet has warmed 1.4 degrees Fahrenheit since the 1800s, and as a result, snow is melting. In the last 47 years, a million square miles of spring snow cover has disappeared from the Northern Hemisphere. Europe has lost half of its Alpine glacial ice since the 1850s, and if climate change is not reined in, two-thirds of European ski resorts will be likely to close by 2100.

The same could happen in the United States, where in the Northeast, more than half of the 103 ski resorts may no longer be viable in 30 years because of warmer winters. As far for the Western part of the country, it will lose an estimated 25 to 100 percent of its snowpack by 2100 if greenhouse gas emissions are not curtailed — reducing the snowpack in Park City, Utah, to zero and relegating skiing to the top quarter of Ajax Mountain in Aspen.

Green New Deal: "Air Travel Stops Becoming Necessary"

This morning, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez released an overview of her “Green New Deal” which threatens "a massive transformation of our society."

Below are the details of the proposal.

Rebuild every single building in the U.S.

“Upgrade or replace every building in US for state-of-the-art energy efficiency.”

Will end all traditional forms of energy in the next ten years.

The Green New Deal is “a 10-year plan to mobilize every aspect of American society at a scale not seen since World War 2 to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions.”

Plans to ban nuclear energy within 10 years if possible.

“It’s unclear if we will be able to decommission every nuclear plant within 10 years, but the plan is to transition off of nuclear and all fossil fuels as soon as possible.”

Build trains across oceans and end all air travel!

“Build out highspeed rail at a scale where air travel stops becoming necessary”.

Don’t invest in new technology of Carbon Capture and Storage, just plant trees instead!

“We believe the right way to capture carbon is to plant trees and restore our natural ecosystems. CCUS technology to date has not proven effective.”

Mandates all new jobs be unionized.

“Ensure that all GND jobs are union jobs that pay prevailing wages and hire local.”

May include a carbon tax.

“We’re not ruling a carbon tax out, but a carbon tax would be a tiny part of a Green New Deal.”

May include cap and trade.

“…Cap and trade may be a tiny part of the larger Green New Deal plan.”

How much will it cost?

No estimate of the total cost of implementing the Green New deal is offered by Ocasio-Cortez.

However, as Ocasio-Cortez admits, “even if every billionaire and company came together and were willing to pour all the resources at their disposal into this investment, the aggregate value of the investments they could make would not be sufficient.”

She does provide one estimate that the cost to “repair and upgrade infrastructure U.S. infrastructure” alone will cost “$4.6 trillion at minimum.”

How will it be paid for? Don’t worry about that.

Ocasio-Cortez doesn’t provide any insight into how the trillions of dollars in spending will be paid for other than claiming, “The Federal Reserve can extend credit to power these projects and investments and new public banks can be created to extend credit”.

But as Ocasio-Cortez says, “the question isn’t how will we pay for it, but what will we do with our new shared prosperity”.

Ah, to be young and insane...

‘Green New Deal’ Looks To Tackle The Scourge Of Cow Flatulence

Democratic New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s newly-released “Green New Deal” resolution has gotten a lot of attention for its 100 percent renewable energy goal, but the bill also vaguely references another source of emissions.

old-crazy-new-crazy.jpg

The resolution calls for a World War II-style mobilization effort to eliminate greenhouse gas emissions from agricultural operations. If that’s the case, that means any subsequent “Green New Deal” legislation would have to deal with a major source of methane emissions — cow flatulence.

The resolution’s fact-sheet reads:
GND_Agriculture.png

Methane makes up 10 percent of U.S. greenhouse gas emissions that scientists blame for global warming. Enteric fermentation, the digestive process in cows and other ruminant animals, is the largest source of U.S. methane emissions, according to Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) data.

EPA says “cattle account for the majority of [methane] emissions in the United States for this source category,” referring to emissions from enteric fermentation. (RELATED: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez: ‘Green New Deal Is About Social Justice’)

Being a non-binding resolution, the “Green New Deal” doesn’t offer any specifics on how livestock emissions would be phased down or eliminated. The question then becomes: How do you eliminate emissions from cows, sheep and other animals?

$4.6 trillion just for new buildings. Another $6 trillion for healthcare. Another $3 trillion for "free" college. Another $6 trillion for energy conversion, $2 trillion for trinkets and cost overruns, and VOILA!!

All that wonderfulness for a mere $22 trillion or so. Oh, and that's on top of what we already owe for Medicare, social security, etc.

Hey, Occasional-Cortex, how about this as an alternative? The United States has 325 million citizens. How about we just give every American (not illegals, just actual citizens) an equal share of that $22 trillion?? That would work out to $67,692 for every man, woman, child, cisgender, and transitioning person in America.

My wife and I could stand to use a $135,400 giveaway, since we would actually spend the money ON **** THAT WORKS - unlike Occasional-Cortex.

wait. did she really suggest building high speed rails across the goddamn oceans?

https://www.npr.org/2019/02/07/6919...ocasio-cortez-releases-green-new-deal-outline

no... even her dense *** didnt come right out and say that. won't surprise me in the least if she doubles down on her stupid though.

no. you're wrong.
she wants to rebuild every single building in the country. every one. from skyscrapers to outhouses.

she can find the money for that "just pay for it"
but cant find the money for the wall "just pay for it"

calling her a retard is an insult to Browns fans

Rebuild every single building? Why in the world would anyone want to do that if there's no structural/safety issues? That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard.

y'all just aint understanding climate change and global warmcooling.

summers gonna be hot
winters gonna be cold

aint that a scary idea?

to help put a stop to this, send a small contribution to my Climate Lowering Intensive Temperature GoFundMe account.
your charity will be put to good used to ensure Chastity, Mercedes, Serena, Hazel and other single moms will not have to live with their children on the streets like homeless veterans. If you have a heart, and I know you do, contribute now.

No, she didn't come right out and say that. The problem is that at the intersection of childish insanity and rational response the author inferred that replacing air travel with high speed rail might touch the oceans. I infer that at that point his mind shut down and he went on to the next 'point' of her proposal.

We're at the point that anybody can walk up to a mike and say any stupid damn thing they want and be taken seriously.

Society would have been better served had young Alex's parents said "Honey, don't pick up that microphone". Well, all children's parents, for that matter.

In all this erudite discourse on climate, is there any contemplation of the Sun's effect? We seem stuck on airplanes, raciss buildings, SUVs, farting cattle, and white people. I realize that's redundant.

Littering the countryside with wind farms and solar panels is apparently more green than nuclear power plants.

Just using her "estimate." But you raise a legitimate point - for every government "estimate" of cost, double it, then move the decimal over one place to the right, and you probably get a more valid number.

My new home is about 8 months old. If that stupid ***** wants to force me to tear it down and rebuild, she is welcome to come to my house and discuss the issue. Downstairs, of course. Near the guest bedrooms, outdoor grill and kitchen, and large gun safe.

This ^^

Nuclear energy creates zero CO2 emissions.

Leftists hate CO2 emissions.

Leftists also hate nuclear energy.

The simple fact is that leftist don't give a cow's fart about the best ways to do things - they simply want to control how things are done, where they of course are immune from restrictions since they are important.

“All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others.”
