Highly unlikely, but would you welcome Cowher back to the Steelers?

You prefer penalty, penalty, penalty, punt?

I enjoyed the run game.

What about the 5 wide with a QB who is very slow to make reads and bubble screens towards WRs who can't block?
Learning how to run would be like getting an extra down; and it would keep the D off the field -- who would want that?

Incomplete, incomplete, sack, punt is so much better.

As a GM for sure.

Cowher's not coming back. And bringing him back wouldn't work anyway, he's been out too long. They would need to once again find somebody young and hungry, and hopefully football smart.

Cowher is certainly young enough to try the coaching thing again. I get the feeling he is quite comfortable doing what he is doing. I doubt he is lacking for $$$$. And as others have said,I bet 90% of this board, including myself thought it was time fof him to go. We forget how many big games he lost as well. I really believe it is time for fresh face as well, the question is how many fresh faces? I hope sir Dick retires so nobody has to make that call. But it's definitely time to fire mr shades and our so called OC. Our GM deserves as much of the blame as anyone else.....what a clusterfuck.

By the way,I wanted a young fresh face after Cowher as well, look how that worked out.

Cowher is a much much better coach than Tomlin but I want Tomlin gone and to go in a new direction instead of bringing back a retread whose heart is not in coaching anymore. This franchise needs a breath of fresh air to get the stink of Tomlin's stupidity and ineptness off.

I don't think Cowher will come out of retirement any time soon, but a retread he is not.

I'd rather not see "run, run, run, PUNT" ever again. Clear enough for ya???

Cowher would adapt to the new NFL, his old coaching style worked in that NFL and he is smart enough to know the difference. He isn't perfect, but definately and upgrade over existing. I'm one that would be OK with his coming back but would prefer new blood.

EXACTLY!!!!!!!! But guarantee yaz, Cowher would have a much better staff than current coach.

Salute the nation

At least he got us to big games, I don't think Cowher would be great as our HC again. An upgrade, yes but I think we need a Chip Kelly type of coach. We are the Steelers for God's sake. 99% of coaches would give their left nut to coach for us.

Just hope he doesn't read the Board first and see what he's in for.

Cowher is older now. I do not think he has the same fire or interest in coaching that he had as a young coach in his 40s. That ship has sailed..

I'm not so sure we're that desirable anymore. Line is a mess on both sides of the ball; aging alleged "franchise" QB who can't put up more than 10 points on the one of the worst defenses in the conference; maybe 10 players on the roster who could start for a playoff caliber team. Cowher mailed it in in 2006. In retrospect, his wife's illness may very well have been a factor but I don't think his heart would be in it anymore.

Cowher didn't mail anything in that year. He had a QB that bounced his head off the pavement, had an appendectomy, and then had a concussion. Ben had 18 TD with 23 picks that year. As Ben got healthier the team got better. Which is why they started 2-6 and ended 8-8. Hell they lost a 9-0 game to Jax (who was also 8-8 that year) because Ben wasn't back to 100% yet.

not how it goes at all. It's run, run, pass, first down. Run, pass, pass, first down. Run, run, run, first down. Pass, pass, sack, FG. OR Run, run, pass, first down. Run, pass, pass, first down. Run, run, run, first down. Pass, run, run, TD called back for penalty. Pass, TD called back for penalty. Pass, sack, FG.

I wouldn't really want him back. MartyBall wasn't all that come playoff time.

Which would matter if he ever did that. That is a myth. Cowher let Kordell throw the ball 30+ times in one AFCC game and 40+ times in another. O'Donnell threw the ball 49 times in the SB and 54 times against SD the year before.

The guys nickname was Field Goal Bill. I'm not sure he's the person ya bring in to get the offense going, and his head would most likely explode with our current defense.

He could always bring in Zo Jackson from the street though. :)

He did pass a good bit with O'Donnell, he also did with kordy, though I'm not sure that was the best gameplan.

You can't hide a QB in the playoffs. They weren't going to let you beat them by running it. If he runs it then people are bitching because of Martyball. When he passes it they still call it Martyball.

Which is why I dont put ALL the blame on coaches. Players have to execute. Kordell couldnt mentally overcome any mistakes he made. Thats not Cowher's fault. O'Donnell made two bad throws in the Super bowl thats not Cowhers fault. Tim McKyer got burnt thats not on Cowher. In the playoffs teams will take away what you do best. Cowher adjusted his players didnt.

No, No, a thousand times, NO.

Cowher's time as a coach in Pittsburgh ended, and he moved on to a pretty comfortable position with CBS. You'll note that this year they replaced Marino and Sharpe, but Bill is still there. I think he's just fine and comfortable in the studio and now with the Thursday night broadcasts.

The only coach I know of that came back after a long hiatus was Dick Vermeil, but he still had something to prove since he hadn't won the SB with the Eagles. Cowher has his SB. Seems like a fitting way to end his NFL coaching career.

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to t-man again.
FGB karma. That's why I've taken to calling Haley "Field Goal Todd".

Joe Gibbs but he didn't do as well the second time around. Went back to NASCAR I think.
