I don't think you quite get what he is saying. Subsidies are not helping black people. If you just give handouts people (not just black people) will not advance themselves because they don't have to work or support themselves. 1 in 8 black people are on welfare while 1 in 50 are white but if you look at the liberal media they will say 39.8% of welfare recipients are black and 38.8 are white so it's a myth that black people are using the system. But they forget to mention that the US population is 245,632,107 whites and only 41,729,006 blacks so the ratio is extremely higher than the percentage. So how has this been helping them over the years? It hasn't but what it does is keeps them voting democratic because they want their free phone, EBT card, and low income housing. But in the BIG picture they aren't being helped by the democrats but rather hurt because who knows how many scientists, engineers, and Doctors are not being created because no one has ever given them motivation to get off their butts and become something.

My background is in economics and I tend to think of things in those terms. Welfare and other government bennies have the effect of subsidizing people to remain in places where their labor is not needed. In other words, there are not enough jobs even if people wanted one. Meantime, other areas of the country have a labor shortage filled by illegals while there is massive poverty and unemployment in Youngstown, OH and Gary, IN to name two, because people get a gummint check in exchange for remaining there and voting Democrat. This is partly why the Pittsburgh Diaspora is what it is and why we have Steeler Nation. Yinzers are a lot of things but lazy isn't one of them and when the mill jobs evaporated we moved to where the jobs were. Another thing is the simple fact that the demand for unskilled jobs and labor has been going down for decades while the supply of unskilled labor has been going up. So if you don't learn some skills or a trade then you'll be on the govt dole or ringing a cash register at Wal-Mart.

I am an independent and don't really like to label myself as any political faction. But if I were to label myself it would be a fiscal conservative. I don't believe the government has my best interests at stake and I don't like when people tell me their opinion as "fact". I can deal with an opinion and even if I disagree be pretty cordial to someone else's beliefs. But when they start spouting off their "facts" I do like putting them in their place and I would say 4 out of 5 times it's a liberal I am knocking down a few pegs.

I have wondered the paradox of what happens if we would downsize government and stop giving out subsidies. Would the economy be able to handle that many people being placed out of work and other being forced into it? I think we may have passed the point of no return and any real attempt to change the way things are would result in a total collapse of life as we have become accustom of today. Ten years ago before I was married with children I would be all for it knowing I was young, self-sufficient, independent, and could fend for myself with little problem. But now I am not sure I could protect my family and provide for them as I would prefer if said collapse did happen.

The problem now is that you have generations of people with no skills or work ethic (yeah I know, I'm racist) so cutting them off cold turkey or even over a period of years wouldn't really work. Again, in a lot of places there are no jobs even if you want one because the Democrats have chased jobs out of many major cities. The best I've got is that you say "Everyone born on or after Jan. 1, 20xx gets no more than 2 years of welfare lifetime, max, and if you're on welfare already then the govt isn't going to pay you for any more kids you have born on or after Jan. 1, 20xx." Cut the illegitimate birthrate real quick right there and people would stay in school too.

Yes at first glance the 39% and 38% are deceiving.. Blacks being only 13% of the population must be taken into account to understand that blacks receive a disproportionate amount of welfare.

Notice that only 17% of welfare recipients are Hispanic,..and they have surpassed blacks in population.

There has been a problem in the black community for a long time. If Dr. Ben Carson survived being raised in one of the most crime infested neighborhoods of Detroit to become one of the top neurosurgeons in the country, then there is no excuse for others. It is the upbringing. His mother made him read books, and made him do his damn homework.

I think that with the ending of social security disability would greatly help our economy and workforce. Imagine if they put all the money collected for retirement instead of for people who get free everything. People could retire in their 50's which would make more jobs available which would keep employment high. I think you can't completely cut the subsidies because so many are dependent on them but you can cut back so far that all they get is a small shithole place to live, government cheese quality food, no frills or extras, and 100% of their healthcare comes from students and learning hospitals. Doctors have to learn on somebody.

We do that now and many people are perfectly content with it if it means they don't have to get up and go to work every day.

In Wisconsin they have a thing called "Badgercare" for the poor. One girl was telling me she gets PAID to drive to the Mayo Clinic to see a top specialist in his field because of her health problems. I down right told her that is wrong that you get paid to drive to your free health care and someone who doesn't pay into the system just takes should never waste the time of a doctor like that... She was not very happy with my response.
