I must say I like the Khan and Weidl combination a lot. Khan focuses on the cap management and Weidl the players and draft.

B. Jones was a TOP 12 pick. Worth the trade for. We finally have a left tackle! Dude is a monster with good feet, strength and length. I would have picked him and approve of the trade up. He did not give up a sack last year, and played well vs the run and pass. I do not think he would be on the board without trading up.

On Pick #32, I would have taken, surprise Porter as well. He is an edge defending corner with plenty of height and length. A bit grabby tough. He was hardly tested in college.

On pick # 49, I also would have taken DT / NT Benton. We have a need for such a player. Who cares is he is rotated out for 3rd down and 4+ yards. His run defense is grade A. He can play in our base 4 man front or base nickel.

We went for a TE. Washington is a TE / T hybrid who can help as an in-line blocker , but I would have taken Safety Battle. I like the trade option though as we picked up pick # 132.

Overall I am pleased with the 2023 Steelers draft.

If Robinson was on the board, absolutely because I think he will be a star player and 3 down inside / outside back that we need. But he wasn't. I hardly view Water Footbal. I watched some of Porter's clips. He must watch those hands and didn't run outstanding nor did he do the drills that highlight quickness. Did he run a shuttle or do the cones? But he showed me enough to be a CB 2 type guy. He obviously has good length in his game and was tested very little in college. As such he was a hard evaluation.

Better sites to plagiarize now is there..

You saw a clip did ya, thank goodness for YouTube huh?

Ive heard a couple people say so far....the draft is over. Whoever they get in the fourth is a bonus. It was a cheap price to get a guy most of us wanted and recouped and still got a guy most of us liked in the third. So if you don't like the guy they take in the 4th or the no names in the 7th this now becomes a bad draft. I doubt that. No one knows how it will turn out. Could end up being terrible. But until they hit the pads this will be pretty universally accepted as a great draft.

Who is gonna play ILB this year? They got an OL, DB, DL, ...all needs. Then a TE when they have Muth, Gentry and Heyward? Seems they'll get thrown on in the middle again with no one inside that can cover. No Bush, Jack, Spillane. Robinson may be a player...he seemed to come on late last year, but who else??

Perhaps everyone can start their own cooch-like thread to opine on the draft.

Or, the mods can merge this where it belongs.

DANG, I wanted to start a thread on the legitimacy of the move up, NOT the actual player.

Would that be merged or would I have a good “SHOT” at making the thread page ?

(sarcasm)

Just so you know, Omar has been involved in player assessment every step of the way. He's done way more than "cap management". While Weidl was responsible for setting the draft board (no minor detail, and kudos to him for setting a helluva board), Khan has ran this draft as the general manager and made the trades that brought us Jones, Washington and recouped the 4th round pick we gave up to get Jones.
In my opinion Weidl and Khan together have worked very well together to bring us a nice haul of talent.

BEAT me to it, you SIR are absolutely correct, it was a team effort between the two.

Thanks for all your great post(s) along the way.

There was no one they could take outside the first two picks that was moving that needle. You cannot fix everything in one draft. They know their own biggest weakness. They picked up two off ball lbs in free agency and I have hope for Robinson. Plus you have some monsters in the middle to keep them clean. It's pretty hard to pass up on second round some say first round talent on a trade back in the third.

Very solid draft for the Steelers. Two maulers on the OL and DL, sounds like an Andy Weidl influence. Peezy’s kid at CB who I think could turn out to be a really good player, good cover corner which we needed, the big TE from the Bulldogs I never expected to get will be a solid run blocker and could be a nice weapon in the passing game.
Nice job Omar and Andy! And got our fourth round pick back. Nice!

I watched some of Porter's clips. He must watch those hands and didn't run outstanding ...

Porter Jr. ran a 4.46 40 with a 1.50 10-yard split. For comparison:

Jalen Ramsey 4.41 40, 1.51 10-yard split

Devin Witherspoon 4.43 40, 1.50 10-yard split

Patrick Peterson 4.38 40, 1.57 10-yard split

So yes, Porter Jr. "ran outstanding." Freakishly long arms (a huge advantage for a CB), did 17 reps at his pro-day. Big, long, fast, strong.

With Trenton Simpson and Dorian Williams there I was a tiny bit surprised they moved down. They must have their eyes on someone they figured would be around later. To’oto’o, Sewell, Pace, Pappoe, Isaiah Land, Shaka Heyward. There’s someone I feel they have their eyes on and felt comfortable with trading down and still getting them later.

This has not been a draft we are accustomed to seeing. The only possible project pick is Washington. I think he could become our next Mark Brunner-but bigger. I haven’t seen their typical ‘reach’ or panic pick. They went up and got their guy at 14. JPJ may turn out to be Ike Jr. Some picks from him would be great, but if he shut down receivers like Ike did, this would be a win. Benton could turn into our next Tuitt. He will have great teachers infront of him with Heyward and Ogunjobi. I can’t wait to see how the rest of this unfolds.
After this is over, I am interested in seeing what undrafted FA’s are brought in.

once they pick up Clayton TUne today in the 4th it will be almost perfect

If they did, it would finally be a serious act of getting a #3 to take over the #2 soon, like in not bring Mitch back at contract expiration.

I think there is someone else in the 4th rnd works, but one can hope.

Well, they do need a QB to groom as Kenny’s backup and Mitchy will be gone next year so definitely a possibility. Depends who is still on the board but I’m thinking maybe another OL in the fourth.
I think if he’s there when they pick in the seventh they are more prone to pick him there though.
