Ice Bowl 2.0: DAL/GB

Always does my heart good to see Romo's sad face after a whole year of nut-hugging.

Mine too...he always looks like deer in the headlights.

The reversal was on Dez, if he had focused on securing the ball rather than reaching for the goal line when he was well short Dallas would've been 1st and goal down near the end zone. Not a smart play, not putting your team first.

That was a catch. Anybody who has watched football for more than 5 years knows that was a catch. The reason it was not a catch is the NFL has over complicated the definition of a catch to a point where it's indecipherable and almost any close catch can be ruled either way.

I thought it could have gone either way, was surprised they overturned it.

That's BS. If Antonio Brown does the same exact thing you are saying it was a reception.

it's what we call "karma"...

It was a catch but also the correct call based on the rules. Figure that one out. The rules need clarified so that in the future, that would be a catch.

Consistency or no consistency, it doesn't pass the eye test. He had control of the ball stumbled forward 2 more steps THEN went to the ground. He should be considered a runner at that point. BS interpretation of the rule.

That rule is designed for guys diving and hitting the ground as they catch the ball. That's not what happened there.

No, it's for any catch, anywhere on the field where the player is engaged (even minimally) with a defender. The ground can cause an incomplete pass but not a fumble. I think the rule sucks but it is the rule so that was a definite no catch. Does no one on here remember bitching last year about AB rolling over and then letting go of the ball (intentionally) and it was called incomplete. That was an even more blatant BS use of this rule but it is the rule under asswipe Goddell.

Can't argue with you on this. I agree. In my book, it was a catch. In Goddell's world, it is not. Flag football, here we come.

He was engaged with the defender and still in the process of catching the ball. He must maintain possession through hitting the ground. Remember AB being overturned last year when he rolled over and then lost the ball.

Correct, just like when Timmons tackled the Bengals dude and Tomlin challenged the catch. They called it wrong in that case.

Reminds me of a game the Steelers were playing few weeks back. I forget who. A TE crossed the middle of the field to the side lines and was going to the ground while catching the ball with the defender making contact. It was ruled a catch. I argue with someone(I forget who) that it shouldn't be a catch for the same reasons this one for Dez wasn't. In the end the rule is horrible. And in my opinion this is why the game is bad. From game to game the refs our just inconsistent on there calls. One week they rule it one way and another week they rule it exactly opposite.

That's the play I'm talking about.

hmmmm 4th and 2 yards to go with the #1 RB in the NFL.....lets Chuck it toward the Endzone!!!

~Very well put..........

Which goes to the rule. You should not need to interpret anything. Steratore is arguably the best ref in the game and he made the call. Mike Pereira agreed that it was an incomplete pass. Rule problem.

Yep................

Ok, I guess we'll put you down as believing Dez shouldn't secure the ball in that situation.

The ball was secure, he took two or three steps and nearly scored. The guy is trying to win a game for his team. I am perfectly fine with what he did.

So that's not a catch because after clean possession, 3 steps and a knee and elbow down, the ball moved while a player was stretching for the endzone. But it is a catch if a wr traps it against the ground so long as he has "control" while its touching the ground.

Problem is the third step was needlessly diving forward to the ground. What he needed to do was wrap both hands around the ball and secure it. Dez should know on a 4th down you don't get another chance and the focus should be on securing the ball. He should also know by history that if you lunge forward with the ball in one hand and it pops out you're at the mercy of the officials. Dallas would've had plenty of time to score down near the goal line.

You may have a valid complaint, But Dez needs to know the rules and play smart in that situation, instead of attempting a risky move that was borderline showboating.

Seattle is going to murder Green Bay. Remember how Jim Harbaugh looked after the Steelers annihated Indy in the '96 wildcard round? That's gonna be Rodgers

If Seattle starts scoring 30+ points a game like they did yesterday they can start making parade preparations. All these other teams are just playing for second place.

Showboating? Come on. He was trying to stretch to the end zone to take the friggin' lead late in the 4th quarter of a playoff game. There was no showboating.

It is a rule problem. Once the receiver takes two full steps with control of the ball, it should be possession, period.

It was pretty funny. I was bitching when they overturned the call and I told my wife "He took 3 steps, that's a catch!". Not 2 seconds later they showed Dez on camera yelling at the ref as plain as day, "I took 3 steps!"

If I were Dez, I would be pissed too!!!
