Initial Thoughts on ratbird Playoff Game

It is time for a reboot. Until they care I won’t be watching much. Seen what I need to see. I will watch the draft but until they axe Tomlin I won’t waste my time in season. I could see me stroking out with stress. Frustration of seeing no changes where they need to be made.

Not enjoyable for me. When something to this degree of passion isn’t enjoyable I need to reassess it.

For what I did watch yesterday I called before it happened. It was just that predictable. What I did watch came quickly with the sound on mute.

I told ol girl watch repeatedly calling the rats first downs. What would unfold.

I keep hearing about the man is a good coach. No he isn’t. He is dumb as a box of rocks. Forrest could have done a better job. It was stressful and embarrassing.

New coordinator and new players and exactly the same collapse.

Same had coach same substandard eye sore.

What a shell his team has been allowed to become. A joke and it starts with what Rooney allows.

I won’t allow my stress level to participate to this level anymore.

Get that clueless twatwaffle out of our city, ****!
Use your insider knowledge to profiteer off the Steelers

As soon as I broke my vow of not betting against the Steelers this year (seeing the collapse coming down the stretch) it took some sting out of the losses

If you know a loss is coming, may as well get paid.

I just look at Mike as my predictably ****** employee that I can bet won’t get the job done.

Ended season hitting on 11 straight Steeler
Game bets…too easy

I will say this much. The team is built by Tomlin who has heavy influence on the draft and free agency.
He hires the coordinators and position coaches.
He is responsible for player development and discipline and keeping his team focused and prepared.
So with that being said my expectations or my ceiling for this HC is a ten win season making the playoffs with a quick wildcard exit.
I keep hearing from these idiots on ESPN about the team not giving him a QB but that’s nonsense.
He wanted and picked Kenny Pickett and proclaimed “we have our guy”.
Then when that failed went out and got Wilson and Fields.
Now that this has failed my expectations will remain the same for next season, A ceiling of ten wins and a first round exit.
I've been saying that for years. Since the team has been all his, 10 or 11 wins and a first round playoff loss is his ceiling. It's simply as good as he knows how to be.
Shades, his staff, and his players do their level best to win each and every game. We've been seeing their best for a while now.

I do laugh though at us. Tomlin sucks! He's a moron! He's an idiot!

Trade him for 2 1sts!

You are the Bears or something and have watched the last 5 weeks. Would you trade for that or take your chances with someone else?

I keep coming back to Todd Haley saying Tomlin told him how many points he wanted the O to score...

He uses the O to protect the D... even with canada, his in his second year, the O barely scored but it led the league in long drives...

Tomlin has a broken concept of how to win... he is stuck in the Tony Dungy Tampa days... he wants safeties that lay the smackdown, his Ds are too concerned with stripping the ball or getting kill hits, and the tackling suffers...

He doesnt have a good front seven plan since he gutted the DLB stuff... pressure is predictable and solely based on individual effort..

And in long downs on D... he plays zones and off coverages his DBs just arent quick enough to handle...

Its the same stuff... he will get raked in the press a bit and make some changes, but by week 18 next year we will be right back to the same ****... not throwing over the middle until down big, playing vets over young guys with more potential because he fears mistakes,
Getting aggressive at weird spots and pulling back tge reigns at momentum killing times...

Getting let go would be good for him... he needs to grow and he wont here, because he doesn't fear consequences of failure

I don't need 2 firsts to let him go... I could trade him for a 7th and a Fu. I just want him gone

I knew we should’ve played the Chargers at home.

They have 7 days to prepare for a division rival. And the game plan to start is to take the ball (say what you will on that decision) and throw a 6-yard out to the TE. And he drops it. Tone set.

I've seen someone else state this in another post, but when we challenged him on it he clammed up and we never heard from him again on it. Let's see if you do the same. Who is this so called talent or talents that reached their potential elsewhere?? I just want to make sure you're not just talking out the side of your mouth.
Kevin Dotson is an all pro. this year

Can we finally stop perpetuating the myth that we have Lamar's number. We don't.

The first two Ravens TD drives they ran the ball every down. Still Minkah was lining up 15-20 yards off the ball. Wtf?

I really thought this year was different and we'd improve throughout the season. I never expected a Super Bowl but expected better than this. Wrong again 😡!
I agree. How many times on a run play did the Steelers tackle the RB that did not have the ball while Jackson racked upyrds?

The team used to play contain against LJ and similar type of QBs. Why they changed that today? I'm clueless

Kevin Dotson is one player bro. Where's the rest? If you're just talking about one player in 18 years thats gone on to excel at his position for another team and not here that's an anomaly, not a pattern. God given sense tells you that. Clearly that was about the player in that instance more so then the coaching even though I don't think the current offensive line coach is good at all and should be let go.

Tomlin places too much emphasis on turnovers and time of possession. It's not that those things are not important, but generating points and yards, while limiting those of your opponent, is ultimately what wins championships.

How many times have we heard Tomlin, after games in which they were crushed statistically, point to not landing on one or two loose balls for reasons why they lost? It's ridiculous.

Since his approach resulted in the Steelers reaching multiple Super bowls early in his tenure, he stubbornly believes it can still succeed, despite all the evidence accumulating to the contrary over the years.

Even during the "Killer B" era, his offenses had a tendency to be overly conservative early in games on the road compared to at home. Pretty much all the Steelers best offensive performances during that era were at home, leading to fairly uneven home vs road splits.

It's really not as much a question of whether Tomlin is a good coach who can succeed somewhere else as it is a matter of his time with the Steelers having run its course with the window of winning a championship with him now closed.

Like guys who hang on to their skinny ties and polyester leisure suits, Shades is confident that his brand of football will be back in style some day and he aims to stay here until it is.

Was there popcorn?
Oh there was popcorn, a whoooooole lot of popcorn

Unfortunately for him his ability to do more with less is a gift and a curse based upon where they end up drafting from year to year. They end up being just good enough to be part of the playoff conversation each year only to be one and done and stuck in that 18-20 position of the draft where they can't get that one player that can be a game changer from one season to the next.

Based upon who the Steelers are at this point you have to get two things absolutely right in order to go to the next level and unfirtunately Tomlin and upper management haven't been very good at it

1) picking coordinators and chief assistants. Tomlin has never been good at this. This is ultimately his downfall. He just can't get it right. I don't know what he ever sees in the Offensive or Defensive Coordinators that he chooses, but the reality is if it was up to me he wouldn't have any say so in this process.

Unfortunately anybody but him picking the OC or DC could create an undermining process.

2) you have to nail it in the draft or make that honest effort to go out and get that big free agency signing. KC was terrible his last 10 years here. Tomlin hasn't done himself any favors with his contribution to the draft war room.

Khan so far has a B- with this last draft class, but a B- grade in the draft isn't going to take you to the next level in the playoffs. Khan did nothing to secure this team what they clearly needed most going down the stretch which was that big WR free agency signing. This is where he needs to make his biggest impact to the team. When u see the obvious eyesore you go out and do everything in your power to fix it. Don't come dropping a guy on us you're hardly ever going to use.

3) the only other problem is one that usually can only be fixed with the draft and very rarely happens through free agency which is getting a franchise QB in here. W/o a franchise QB its going to be hard to get this team to the next level I dont care who the coach is. For sure it's going be difficult to form a team that has a run similar to the Chiefs of recent note.

Coaches get retreaded every year. If I was Chicago I might sign Tomlin if he was available{fired)....but I wouldn't trade any picks for him.

He has a long history of hiring only 1) people he worked with before and 2) people he knows. Nothing wrong with that in itself but when that's the ONLY people you hire long-term then it's a problem.
His best coordinators were the three he didn't hire, Arians, LeBeau, and Haley.
No, he didn't hire Haley, Dan Rooney did because Arians was going to get Ben killed. The day before Arians was told he retired and Haley was hired, Shades said in his end-of-season presser that his coaching staff would return intact.
At least they went a little outside the box hiring Smith but I don't think Shades lets him call the game he wants to call.

Bottom line is that in the last eight years the Jaguars have three playoff wins and the Steelers have none. And worse yet is that all the Steelers playoff losses have been by double digits. I believe there is a word for describing doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.

Initial reaction- Sometime I just hate living near Baltimore. this week is going to be a rough

TJ WATT’s post game presser “we do what they tell us to do”. Pretty sure that was there (Tomlin) game plan to take Henry out of the game………… everyone, including my uncle, could see with-in 3 or 4 of those type plays that it wasn’t working. There was no adjustment made, keep to the plan…………………

The players were well executing the coaching game plan. Where does that put the coaching and game planing ?

The last time we played the Raven's we did the exact opposite. Our OLBers crashed on Jackson and he gave the ball to Henry. Henry had a field day. In the end regardless who our OLBers take...RB or QB...we have to have others on the field to take the opposite of what they take. In both games we didn't. Why?
