Initial Thoughts on ratbird Playoff Game

The last time we played the Raven's we did the exact opposite. Our OLBers crashed on Jackson and he gave the ball to Henry. Henry had a field day. In the end regardless who our OLBers take...RB or QB...we have to have others on the field to take the opposite of what they take. In both games we didn't. Why?

It's almost like they sincerely believed if they overcommitted to stopping Henry, while daring the greatest rushing QB in the history of the game to beat them with his legs, the Ravens wouldn't take advantage of it.

They made Tomlin and Austin look like chumps. Even Deebo was ripping into the defensive coaching during the game.

Everything begins and ends with Tomlin, **** him!
Meh.....Rooney is my thought. Tomlin is who he is. Up to Rooney to make a move. After handing out a 3 year extension last offseason to Tomlin we know where he stands.

Im talking on the field ****, but yes Rooney needs to kick his *** out the door, its just as much on Rooney.

Ravens were going to run the ball.
Be it with Henry or Lamar, they were running the ball.
Look at our personnel and formations for the ENTIRE game.
Did we spy Lamar?
Did we stack with big uglies?
Did we make any adjustments?
I’m shouting g at the walls.
Same thing year in and year out.

I had to take some time after watching yet another Tomlin special last night. I've been fairly neutral on Tomlin for the last few years. I'm now firmly on the side of it's time to move on. I don't want to see some retread head coach come in, but I'd be fine with them bringing in one of the up and coming young coordinators. I'd rather have a defensive minded coach, but he needs to have some grasp of the offensive side, or at least be confident enough to hire coordinators he's not afraid will look better than he is and can develop young players consistently.

The biggest game of the year for the team last night and it was yet again another Tomlin special where the team is lethargic and not ready to play the first half in an important game (the game announcers kept saying this is not Steelers football and the team is half asleep). In my mind, the game was over early on when the Ravens were only up 7, but clearly having their way on offense. The Steelers had 4th and inches. Yes, they were on their own 30, but not a single other winning coach would have punted at that point showing zero confidence in your offensive team. Especially, with a big back like Harris. 4th and inches!!

Another thing the coach did was minor, but stupid considering the momentum at the time. During the last drive for the Ravens before the half, up 14 on their side of the field with about a minute to play, the Steelers stopped them after a short gain on first down. Tomlin then hurries and calls a timeout. I was wondering at the time what he was thinking stopping the clock and giving them more time before half based on how the Ravens had been gashing the team on the ground. I wasn't sure what Tomlin thought his non-existent offense was going to do even if they did get the ball back with a few seconds before half. You never know what would have happened, but maybe without that extra timeout for the Ravens, they decide to let the clock expire since they have the ball to start the second half, or end up with a field goal attempt instead of a TD as time runs out.

The last thing I'll mention is the jump ball to Austin late in the game when the Steelers had a chance to make a game out of it. The drive stalled causing them to have to go for it on forth and long. Willson ends up throwing a jump ball to the smallest guy on the field in triple coverage. I have no problem with the throw to end zone, but why would you not take the shot using your two tallest and most athletic receivers that can actually out jump players in Pickens and Williams?

I'm ready for a change. I think Tomlin has been a decent coach and a good representative for the Steelers for years. However, I'm ready for him to move on. I think the best option would be to get some team like the Bears or Raiders to trade a couple of first round picks for him, but that kind of luck rarely happens to the Steelers.

I do laugh though at us. Tomlin sucks! He's a moron! He's an idiot!

Trade him for 2 1sts!

You are the Bears or something and have watched the last 5 weeks. Would you trade for that or take your chances with someone else?
If I’m the Bears I shoot myself in the face, move to Decatur and call my team the Staleys

And then give my two firsts for Tomlin of course cuz he’s the gOaT

TJ WATT’s post game presser “we do what they tell us to do”. Pretty sure that was there (Tomlin) game plan to take Henry out of the game………… everyone, including my uncle, could see with-in 3 or 4 of those type plays that it wasn’t working. There was no adjustment made, keep to the plan…………………

The players were well executing the coaching game plan. Where does that put the coaching and game planing ?

You could 100 tell he wasn’t the slightest worried about contain or using his instincts and was solely focused on Henry

An order that stupid could only come from Moron Mike

Yes he stands propped up as a dead puppet by a
Couple Moron Mike cronies in a twisted movie

Weekend at Rooney’s

It’s the only logical answer

Well it’s Groundhog Day. It’s what I pretty much expected. Tomlin had his fingerprints all over this gsmeplan. The first play of the game-the dropped Muth pass to me set the tone for the the offense. I feel as if Tomlin turned into Coach Klein without his green binder and felt running was the way to go. They got boat raced in the first half.
I don’t know if Fields would’ve faired better. I don’t think they would’ve gotten on the board, but we will never know.
I don’t recall a lot of Warren with the exception of a couple of dump offs.
You get a money ball catch with Williams and then don’t keep him out there as one of 2 primary targets-especially in the second half when you really need to stretch the field.
The most expensive defense on the field just looked like the weakest. The film on how to neutralize Watt has been out there. Every team used it and adjusted to it. The Steelers did not adjust.
Sitting Preston Smith for Loudermilk was a poor choice (unless he had a nagging injury).

Don't move to Decatur....it's a pit at this moment. Only thing good about Decatur is the cost of living. Empty commercial buildings and offices everywhere.

Perfect place to hide Tomlin, Decatur IL

You’re catching on to the scheme here

No air drops to Decatur, but we have other means of delivery which adds significantly to the overall cost—————— Would you want us to give your discounted rates to the Bears?

I will say once more the defense gets all the yea we are good, they did nothing in the first half to stop Ravens. Smith can be the OC when Tomlin stops having him be his puppet. Same old thing run run pass for a half no movement because the defense knows this. All at once play calls we are making plays, Wilson can throw down field, running game looks some what better. Give me grief but Porter is not this hot shot, penalties bad tackling. Sutton why we resignerd him he did zero. No physical play on defense soft tackling stats prove it. Offens gets going defense allows down the field TD. Rooney needs to see the light Tomlin time is up, out coached outplayed five games in a row. We were not in this game after pour first punt. Offens one negative play we are done agin showed tonihgt. We had a better season than we thouyght playoff game was great but we did not show up. Have a lot of holes to fill. Wait till next year. Steeler fans have a Happy New Year.
This would be my best scenario for us. And that's telling Arthur Smith that as soon as Tomlin's contract is up he's out and Smith is head coach if he chooses to stay. Tell Tomlin Smith is staying on as O.C. and don't renew Tomlin's contract when the time comes no matter what the team does(record wise) in between...it's too little too late. It's fools gold.

Smith is an offensive minded coach and we were doing good things early on, to me it seems like the brakes were put on the offense by someone who " Doesn't live in their fears" You know, the usual meddling.

With him staying on he has plenty of time to plan what he wants to do philosophy wise, plan who he wants to get on his staff, and prepare for his first draft. That seems to me like it would be the smoothest transition with the most likely to be successful as he has been here and all around familiarity will help everyone by the time he takes the reigns. Rooney also has to be more accomodating in what he allows as far as staff hiring and number of staff.

The Decatur Staleys, going back to their roots as Mike is going in full hiding and the team is kicked outta town after being stupid enough to trade for Mr. mediocre
He needs some of those super huge sunglasses for his next Incognito gig as the HC of the Decatur Staleys…nobody will even recognize him, unless he brings all the Tomlinships with him.

In the words of George Pickens
“Nah”

They don’t deserve the discount rate
They pay full fare
Gotta keep that discount rate for personal usage😎

Three more years of Tomlin? I wanted him gone 6 years ago. Now we get three more years of mumbo jumbo talk and poor results. Rooney is a fool. But he's a rich fool.

They were afraid of him passing, but if you look when he was pressured he made some bad throws.I think your approach was the one they should have used. If he's going to beat you make him do it with his arm. The pressure was ALL on them as far as expectations...I think he would have caved. Letting him run wild to focus on Henry and taking the pass away??? That was easy pickings for him.

Even though he was running, mentally he never broke a sweat...if you will.

Watt hasnt been the same since his foot injury this year... he hasnt been able to do that near horizontal rush that just flummoxes tackles... which is why not trying to generate a pash rush through other means is ludicrous..

The Ravens offense starts w/ Lamar. If they were keying on anyone it should have been Lamar first. How many times last night did we see guys fly past lamar to hit Henry. Not only that they had no plan to cover up the area vacated by the OLB. The really sad part is even w/ keying on Henry he had 150yrds at halftime. They have no backup plan when the whole world can see what they are doing is not working. Maybe the D should have resorted to making up plays on the spot like Ben did

If there is any consolation, which there ain’t, we weren’t the only ones to get crushed.

Bills 31
Den 7

Texans 32
Chargers 13

Rats 28
Steelers 14

Plus we only lost by 14. Yay!

WATT isn’t getting any younger and obviously Coach Tom Lin is going to have figure out what to do as TJ’s production lowers.

If this year is any indication, I think it will be about the same——- not scheming / allowing TJ to be schemed out of the play.

I’m curious to see what year end interviews and “state of the STEELERS” address will be like.

The 1st half was just another game plan of try to keep it close so they could maybe, possibly try to win it in the last minutes.

Same game plan as EVERY OTHER game, same results as every other time playing a quality opponent

This ^^^

100% accurate. Every Steelers game shows Tomlin's "genius" strategy of trying to keep the game close so that the offense can move down the field on the last possession and set up Boswell for a 16-14 victory.

Works decently against bad teams, but is a guaranteed loss - pretty much always a blowout - against good competition. The "Tomlin Technique" explains the playoff blowout losses, the inability to beat a quality opponent, and the seemingly inexplicable losses to horrendous teams like the Cowboys and the Clowns.

Until Tomlin is gone, that strategy will not change and the results will not vary. I don't much care at this point - I have a beautiful wife, two great children, a nice home, and things vastly more important than huge men in pajamas chasing a ball.

Like guys who hang on to their skinny ties and polyester leisure suits, Shades is confident that his brand of football will be back in style some day and he aims to stay here until it is.
