Jackson extension?

The Daniel Jones contract seems crazy but you have to consider that last year was the first year that Jones had anything close to a surrounding cast. The OL has been horrible, Saquon was injured and they have no WRs. Last year they finally had a decent OL and healthy Saquon at the same time. Still not much at WR but Jones managed to have a pretty solid season.

Jones has great mobility. Daboll was there with Josh Allen who many were starting to call a bust before he finally had a breakout. Getting Stefon Diggs was a big part of that too. The Giants could land a top WR this offseason. They do have some decent depth WRs, just not that top guy.

It's a risk, but if Daboll liked what he same in Jones' development last year then it's not as crazy as most people think.

Tgere was a pre draft moment last year where the Giants weā€™re looking to shop him and Barkleyā€¦ and the rumor was it was at deep discountā€¦ some insiders were saying a 4th or 5th for Barkley and probably in the realm of a second plus for Jonesā€¦

Ultimately they decided to keep both, but a lot of us here thought we could have made an offer on the pairā€¦ that might have been pretty awesome

I saw an interesting article today where only 1 player (Sean Gilbert) has signed and went to a new team with the non exclusive tag. I think Jackson will sign with the Ravens or end up sitting out.

Well i mean with the non exclusive tag your agent can totally work out a trade ā€¦ oh waitā€¦ dumbassā€¦.
With the tag, are the Ravens able to trade any of their own pics? So the Ravens would get the 2 first rounders could they say we will give lamar and our second rounder? Or could the Ravens sign lamar and then trade him for whatever and just have the other team pick up the contract. I'm not sure how all that works

Who would give up 2 picks for him? Ain't worth it.

Oh but I hope you are right !!!! Keep him in Baltiwhore as long as possible and keep ā€˜em guessing so as to mess up their draftā€¦ā€¦ā€¦ā€¦

Then sign him long term for 210mil @ 184mil guaranteed !!! 4 yr deal.

How does anyone turn down the last contract offered with millions guaranteed? Lamar if smart would be set for life. I sure do not get it, Lamar has not played a complete season in what three years. He sulked on the sideline all last year. Now wants traded and turns down 32 million for sitting on the bench as last year. Maybe he should ask Bell how well sitting at home did his career. So, he wants traded, would you love being in the room where he is negotiating with another team. I do hope this drags on and on and if Ravens sign him, be at beginning of season. The way the game is today I can't see a contender going after Lamar and giving up important draft picks. So Lamar has shown as many today, care less of winning show me the money.

The Ratbirds basically offered him the watson contract only with 130 million guaranteed instead of the whole thing and he said noā€¦
He is an imbecileā€¦ just a total idiot like Bellā€¦ even if he would have been utterly destroyed next season and never played again, his whole family could live extravagantly for generations on 130 million dollarsā€¦ and he most likely would have seen the end of that contract or close to itā€¦ he was probably realistically assured about 180 million with that contract if it was in any way standardā€¦

Just a fool chasing meaningless accolades

I am afraid there are enough idiotic teams out there like the Browns to make an offer for him. I can see Washington doing it. The Ravens should at jump at the first best offer and laugh all the way to the bank. I hope they donā€™t get a good offer.

Someone said he already lost 30-40 million by not having an agent that he will never get back. Now he is turning down 130mil+ guaranteed. I hope no one signs him

the fact that BAL had to basically stand pat in FA because of the Jackson contract situation is a beautiful thing. He turned down that huge contract from the Ravens because of his ego is nuts. Indy is supposed to be the front runners to land him. It would be weird seeing him in a Colts jersey, but have at it. He can't stay healthy is one of his biggest concerns. Still hoping BAL signs him.

He'd be set for life with a fraction of that.

I think what heā€™s asking is that they trade the rights to him for something less than two first round picks.

This is way different than Bell's contract. Lamar can be traded, Bell could not. Lamar is a league MVP at the most coveted position in football. He should at least get Jones money from the NYG.

The contract for a Franchise Tag works thusly:
1) A team makes a contract offer, The Ravens Reject to match and are awarded 2 1sts.
2) Lamar signs the Franchise Tag, and the Ravens are able to trade him for any compensation.

The way this has worked in the past, is few teams give up 2 firsts and instead prefer to negotiate with the team over the player for lower draft compensation. That should happen again here.

Lamar should already have a long-term deal done with the Ravens. If it wasn't done, then teams should be lining up to trade for him. A former MVP at the league's most important position shouldn't be in this situation. QBs get the money and a lot more. To some extent, I wonder if he doubts his own long-term viability in the league by turning down good offers in hopes of a fully guaranteed deal.

Part of the problem here is he
represents himself. Which as much as an agent is a blood sucking bottom feeder they have a role. If Lamar came in with reasonable then it's good. He saves the commission and all well. When he didn't and negotiated for himself he had to hear the hard truths that an agent normally filters out for the client.

most Logical spots
The jets have the cash the need rather than rent a rod for 1 year get a better qb and build around him
Atlanta in Dire need of a qb that can be a game-changer and pack the dome.

NOW i understand what's going on here.

Not necessarily, MOST of these ā€œheroā€™sā€ donā€™t know squat about finances and donā€™t have a reality when it comes top spending.

I like the turmoil it is creating between Action and the Ravens. I hope it goes into training camp and finally ends with the ravens overpaying & Action feeling like he is underpaid for the next 5 years.

Good explanation Stryker, I knew #1 and suspected the #2.
