James Harrison Released

Good thing Watt didn't get seriously injured on that play in the 4th quarter. It looked bad on replay but he came back in. We have no backup for him since our genius coaches got rid of his backup.

I mean seriously, does anyone on here think we are better playing Chicklo and Moats instead of Deebo, even at his age? I sure don't. Watt was lining up on both sides today. So, why not have Deebo in there to rush on every down when he does play and drop Watt or Dupree into coverage. That option is better than Chicklo or Moats rushing the passer or even trying to stop the run.

But it was important to have Watt out there covering a punt with the Steelers up by 4 scores.

Right. You asked me for the math, and I gave it to you.

When you realize that the math doesn't support you, sure as ****, it's time to fall back on the ol' Omnipotence of the Almighty NFL Front Office/Head Coach argument. I forgot...they never make mistakes. The Steelers cut Harrison 3 times. So did the Ravens. The guy was going to give up football and become a veterinarian or a truck driver, if Haggans hadn't injured himself lifting weights in the 2004 offseason.

Tomlin pulled the same bullshit power card with LeGarrette Blount a few years back, and it ended up biting him in the ***. Tomlin thought it was "in the best interest of the organization" to release Blount. Was it, though? Was it really? Was it in the best interest of the Steelers' organization when they were forced to play Ben Tate and Josh Harris at the running back position in the 2014 wild card game? I'm confident that Blount STILL had the ability to lead the league in touchdowns LAST season. For the ******* Patriots.

Whatever.

What, you think legarette blount was gonna win us a Superbowl that year? Gtfo. In hindsight, I would've inactivated his ***** *** and not cut him, but let's not pretend he was gonna be the guy to help propel the team from wildcard to big game. The team no longer had a role for Harrison, he likely didn't enjoy sitting around twiddling his thumbs and asked if he could be released, they obliged. Move on

Yeah, I watched Harrison, but truth be told, I was more focused on Bud and the 1 tackle he made on his 53 snaps.

Yeah, bud, the guy who is what, 24 yrs old, still on his first contract? That bud?

I should move on with my life, like you...and start a thread about the Hawaii Bowl just to bug somebody. Right?

Lol no I can't post a thread about a ******* bowl game? Did I cuss someone's children out or something?

"b-b-b-but my buddy Jaaaymz! I can't believe he's gone, it ain't a'faiiir! Booo-hooooo!! "

At the end of the day, whether he is an every down linebacker or a specialty pass rusher, you use him as appropriate. James Harrison is arguably the top defensive player in the team's history. If not the top he's easily in the top 3 or 5.

You don't treat him like ****, leave him inactive and rotting on the bench unless you are an absolute coaching and FO fuckup.

Aw, did I hurt your feelings?

James Harrison didn't get anywhere near the QB on any play he was in besides against Eric Fisher who he owns.

Harrison could rush the passer 500 times in a row and he still probably wouldn't have 6 sacks.

No, you didn't hurt my feelings. Did I hurt your widdle feelings by destroying your fuzzy math? I guess James "didn't get anywhere near the QB" on those 3 pressures he had, either, right? Whoops! You might want to get some glasses before you take that remedial math class.

Maybe you'll answer my question if I ask it again: Was it really in the team's best interest when they cut Blount?

Or was it in Tomlin's best interest?

I find myself in utter agreement with Omar here. Blount was a cancer. James Harrison has NEVER been a cancer.

I can't forgive the coaching and FO for mis-handling the Harrison situation so badly and I certainly can't be upset with him for signing with a team who wants to use him if he can find one.

I stopped reading your post after the first few sentences, that's why I didn't answer your question.

Cutting Blount turned out to hurt us in the end, but who is to say that came solely from Tomlin? Who could've predicted Bell would get hurt? Blount also isn't a 39 year old LB who can't find the field

Who knows? The Steelers were 11-5 that year. The dude had 148 yards and 3 touchdowns in a game for New England during those very same playoffs. I do know Blount was a much better option than some clown they signed off the street or a rookie free agent, but the fact is we'll never know, thanks to the infinite wisdom of Mike Tomlin...but God forbid I question him in this instance with Harrison.

I guess they must still have "a role" for Moats and McCullers, though.

I agree with you that in hind sight I wish we would've kept him. He just was gonna be pissy the entire time when he wasn't seeing the field.

I also agree that they could've cut McCullers or someone. They can still sign Harrison back tomorrow.

Yeah, the guy who can't smell the quarterback unless he's forced into his path. That Bud.

You can post a thread about the ******* Toilet Bowl, for all I care. Just don't tell me to "move on with my life" because I happen to have an opinion about James Harrison.

Tell me, wig, was Blount a cancer with the Patriots when they were winning two Super Bowls with him?

Be happy you didn't, not fun to watch a once dominant player be a non-factor and worse than the guy that you want him to replace in the lineup.

I see. I guess you must've missed the part about Harrison's pressures in my last post as well. I forgive you.

Tomlin has made it clear that he doesn't like guys who feel they deserve more playing time.

You never know about injuries, but casting aside a quality backup like Blount was an unnecessary move which greatly reduced depth at a very important position.

There's other guys who can't find the field who could have been released, and whether it was shown against a tackle "he owns" or not, I believe Harrison could still be useful as a situational pass rusher. Maybe I'm wrong...we'll find out shortly if there's another NFL front office out there who agrees with me.

Well he already went unclaimed on waivers, so I'd say that's a slight sign.

Honestly, I'm shocked at how the situation played out. I thought he looked solid last season once he began to start.

I would've liked to see him on the field instead of Chickillo when they spell Dupree.

Regardless it's a strange situation. I wish he wouldn't of been running his mouth, though. We've had enough drama this season.

Never said I wanted to replace anybody in the starting lineup with Harrison. Said I didn't think it was a wise move to cut him at this point.

But, I'm sorry, was Bud a "dominant player" in that 39-38 win against one of the worst pass offenses in the league? Did I miss something?

Agreed.

Merry Christmas!

I have seen them miscalculate plenty of end of career decisions (Woodson). I'm glad that it is apparently amiable.

Maybe this has already been posted, as I haven’t read the whole thread yet. Plenty? There’s Woodson and Vrabel. Can you name others, who we regretted letting get away? I certainly can’t. I think that’s a pretty good track record, and no one is arguing that Harrison is in that class.

What did the STEELERS do that was so bad???? They kept James on the roster as he plays out his last year. Even though he wasn't much of a contributor the STEELERS kept him so as when the team finished with #7 he would be a part of that team. The rub came from James as he wanted to participate more but the front Office / coaches felt he was done. JAMES asked for release.

EXACTLY, James could have rode this out aND GAINED ANOTHER SUPER BOWL RING. He chose not to by wanting out. I don't thin k he will find employment as easily as he thinks but will be on alert for injury and STEELERS bringing him back in if needed. Bridges were not burned.

Salute the nation

I actually respect him for NOT doing just that.

Blount and Harrison are to separate deals. Blount actually walked out during the middle of a game. how on earth do you keep a guy that does this on your team? Harrison has been a leader on this team for a lot of years. I am sad that he is gone. I also believe he would do better that moats and chick at rushing the passer. But he was a liability in coverage. we have been dropping our backers in coverage a lot more this season.

when we resigned James back in march, their was no way of knowing that Watt would drop to us and be so good so fast. this cut was just part of the NFL.
