Jarvis Jones IS A BUST

LMAO Hyperbole much? Rivera from the Raiders had one less reception and two more TD's and was a 6th round pick, does that make him all pro?

No, means he also had a good rookie season.

Go find me the best rookie TE seasons in history.

******* fantasy football. First several links I saw were about drafting a TE in a ******* fantasy draft.

This link (presumably accurate) seems to back up your statement. Only 26 have ever topped 500 yards and less than 20 in the 2000's.

One of them (from last year) is Tim Wright (UDFA), who was just traded to the *'s for Logan Mankins. Seems odd to trade someone who had decent production for you, but a) it is TB and b) he played in TB under Schiano who was his college coach.

There is a difference between a good season and comparing stats what Randy Moss did as a rookie lol

I agree that TE's rarely make an impact their first season but after the hype surrounding Eifert upon being drafted by the Bengals and
after scoring a TD against our Steelers in game 2 last year you would have thought that this guy was the next coming. The board here
seems to be protesting loudly against Jarvis Jones before year 2 of his journey begins but yet is boasting that little Dri Archer is gonna
make waves in the Steelers offense before he even plays a down.

Jarvis has not shown anything here. Had several questions regarding health and age when drafted. Archer came in with promise and no medical red flags. Archer was initially slammed by many as being to small fumble prone etc. I did not think he was big enough to be useable for an entire season. After he got here he has made a couple of plays that had some folks impressed with his potential. Jones still has not done anything. Timmons was not well liked but he played and was ready for most games. His play has not been outstanding but it has been at least good. Many folks thought he was a reach at his position but at least he is a football player. Jarvis might as well be a tennis player.

I am hoping that Jarvis has some tricks for the regular season. In the first preseason game, he showed a good move and got a sack. He didn't show any other moves the rest of the preseason.

He has not shown any increased power and his speed is still lacking. That means he must rely on great moves. He needs to be the Peyton Manning of pass rushers, constantly studying tendencies and setting up moves to create pressure.

If Jarvis does have some new moves, i don't understand why he would not have worked on them during the preseason.

For what it is worth, most people boasting on Archer are not the same ones protesting Jarvis.

I do remember another play in the Carolina game where he was able to bull past the O lineman and tackle Tolbert for a loss. I don't think it was quite a one-armed tackle. I guess the point is, Tolbert is a big guy and Jones was able to bull through a big guy to take down a big guy. Shows that he can get leverage and/or strength. Not too much to get excited about since it is the only other play I can remember, but shows that he can do it. Needs to show consistency in being able to do it, though.

Facepalm, again

39 catches v. one sack IS Randy Moss v. Bruce Davis

Archer was fumble-prone and did have medical red flags.

But your point stands. No comparison between him and Jarvis.

I think the comparison would be Archer to Sepulveda. People hated taking a P in the 4th because unless the guy is one of the best in the game, it's too much to invest in a position that only accounts for a few plays per game.

If archer is just a middle road return guy and only catches like 3 balls per week, then it's too much to invest in a role player, unless those few plays per week are consistently great. 3 rd down backs and slot WRs are a dime a dozen.

Darren Sproles is about as good as you could hope for Archer's upside and he's on his 3rd team. Why? Because at the end of the day, he is still just a role player and you may be forced to keep a less talented guy at a more important position ahead of him.

39 catches v. one sack was the comparison. When did I EVER, ever, ever compare Moss and Eifert?

What I'm saying is that rookie TEs never make an impact. 39 catches as a rookie is a pretty big deal, and compared to Jarvis' one sack, it's like comparing Randy Moss' rookie year to Bruce Davis'.

You don't even understand what you type or something? You compared the two players and in your example Eiferts rookie season was compared to Moss and Jarvis to Davis.

Terrible example. Totally overblown comparison but then coming from you not unexpected.

Sigh. Yes, I absolutely considered Tyler Eifert and Randy Moss to be identical players. Clearly what I was going for.

You're one of the "I'm not touching you!" kids.

There are so many JJ haters. Sure, it would have been nice for him to be a stud as a rookie but that is extremely rare in the Steelers D. I'm hoping when the real games start we do see improvement from him. I won't call him a bust yet. I'll give him this season and then see where he is. Heck, Worilds didn't do anything in the pre-season either - especially not enough to be paid almost $10 million per year.

A stud? He wasn't even a starting-caliber player. He didn't even really flash starting-caliber ability.

I have already determined my threshold for Jarvis.

Winner = Above 8 sacks

Decent = 6-8 sacks

Eh = 5 sacks

Bust = Anything less than 5 sacks

If Eifert had 275 yards and no Td's I'd say that would be equal to Jarvis season. Jones was successful on what he was supposed to do once. He wasn't a force against the run. Had no interceptions and few if any pass defenced. In what world did his output compare to Eifert. And for Jarvis it ain't about stats. Watch him play. He isn't strong enough nor fast enough. Eifert will get better with experience. That is about timing. Reading coverage. Jarvis could have a 100 tricks up his sleeve. If you aren't strong enough or fast enough it doesn't matter.

The Jarvis that everyone is talking about is last year's version. Only a couple more days and we will see if there is "any" improvement.

Problem with drafting Jarvis over Eifert is we still have a huge hole at ROLB and a huge hole at backup TE and our 2 set TE packages scare no one because it includes the worthless Spaeth in the passing game. Eifert and Heath would be unstoppable in 2 TE sets.

Thanks to Jarvis being a poor player we will probably have to draft a LB in the 1st round for the 3rd straight year , talk about a clusterfuck ,this is why bad drafting kills depth and hurts the entire roster. If Worilds leaves as a free agent we have to replace both outside LBs, talk about a nightmare.

Running up to the podium and drafting a mediocre to bad athlete at the toughest defensive position is sheer lunacy.

Nevermind ... .....
