Kaboly: Fields looks like Ben and like Mark Malone

Definitely have become the island of misfit toys. However, if Pickett was leaving I don't see hiw they could have done better unless they made a huge move on Cousins or to a lesser extent Mayfield.
Pickett would still been here if they didn't bring in Wilson. Probably would still be here if they didn't promise Wilson that he was going to starter. I doubt Fields would have been brought in then if Pickett was still here.

It is what it is: We got the deal of a lifetime with Wilson, hard to pass that up, a SB-winning QB almost for free. Sure, his #'s have dropped the last 2 seasons, but even so, his 26 TDs dwarfed what ALL our QBs did or 2023. And Fields as a backup? Not too bad, even though his career hasn't lived up to his draft slot.

And with Haskins, is it just me of were there skant details about his death that night, other than he was drunk and on ketamine and its metabolite norketamine - serious, potent drugs. His BAC was 2.0. The question I have, that seemingly was never answered (or asked?) was who did he spend the night with leading up to him being hit by that dump truck? I'm gonna assume some teammates, but it was never addressed. His family was in the process of suing.

I realize and agree. Just saying with Pickett actually being gone Wilson here. Fields is probably best case scenarion.

KP chose not to compete against Wilson. What winning QB is like that?
I think he got a ****** deal here with who his OC was.
But competition makes everyone better. He did not bet on himself

From what I read. Wilson wanted a guarantee that he would be the starter. And they gave that to him. It is what it is. The reason why Wilson signed with Pittsburgh. The reason why there will be no real competition between Wilson and Fields. If it was an open competition I don't think Pickett would be gone.

I think I remember reading a few different articles saying that Wilson was not Guaranteed the starting position when he signed.

Of course....wink wink.

That's what my problem was with the WHOLE thing. They kept taking about open competition. Then when they signed Firlds they told Wilson don't worry we want you to mentor him. Meanwhile, Pickett was accused of being a ***** because he refused open competition. There was no open competition.

"Open competition" has been a lie, with regularity, since Tomlin has been here. Since when was it not? They told us 2022 was an "open competition." Really? Anyone here gonna defend that stance as legit? It was Trubisky's job from the get go, out of the gate. There never was any "open competition." And then after a horrible start with Mitch, it became Kenny's job, again, sans competition. It was all a big lie. So, if they are throwing around the phrase "open competition" again forgive me if don't buy it. Mediocre Mike has already said Wilson is in the starter's pole.

And yet still landed on a team with no open competition and no pathway to a starting role.

Everything I am reading says they did not gaurentee him the starter position when they signed him

I don't want accused of sticking up for Kenny; as far as I can tell he's an immature, privileged snowflake. But just to keep an open mind, it could have been a case of already been lied to by Shades and experienced an unprofessional team and had enough. We've already witnessed cases of Tomlin having repercussions of lying to players (Blount, Harrison, etc.) Tomlin seems to only want to give "good news" to players and when he has news that isn't he seems to cower and not deal with the players man-to-man.

Kenny had the chance to play for his hometown team and get a new start, leaving all the "Jr. league" stuff Tomlin engages in behind. And you never know what kind of opportunities can arise from a new team - injuries are the most obvious thing that can change things. And we are talking Philly here. They tend to manage things pretty erratic. Nothing is safe there: not a SB-winning QB or coach. So you never know.

Pretty sure he was pissed for being lied too. Him and Rudolph just wanted out. He doesn't choose where he was traded to. They likely don't pick up his fifth and he is a FA sooner then later. It will all work out in the wash. I think they are maybe better next year but unless Fields is really good this is just stop gap.

Eh, unless you're a great player, coaches and front offices are constantly trying to find upgrades. A bit naive to think you can throw 13 TDs in two years and be locked in as the starter. Even more naive if your team signs a veteran like Russell Wilson and believe he won't be the starter.

Yep. My exact take also.

I am not privy to the wink wink nudge nudge say no more say no more knowledge that yall are

Got to agree with this take. And WHO KNOWs what will transpire in 2024. As you say, Kenny and Mason were just sick of the Tomlin lies. They had enough of his dishonesty.

Because Kenny demanded a trade BEFORE off season workouts began.

He is an entitled *****. Good riddance...

Just don't lie about stuff. Most would say Fields is a better prospect. He is certainly far more experienced. Is this an open competition? Is it Bermuda?

I don’t think it is open butttt if Fields outplays Wilson significantly it will get interesting.

So we've seem this before. Wilson has to get hurt or team will have to be buried. Training camp and pre season are irrelevant for this.

True but we have a new OC so when push comes to shove I think he would have a heavy influence on who starts . With Rooney breathing down on Mike with the lack of postseason success not so sure it is business as usual.
