Kicker Josh Scobee traded to STEELERS!

any chance we can snag former CB of the Bears Jennings and replace Blake for him they are both midgets but Jennings is a proven pro-bowl caliber corner that has a hx of making big plays.

What's even funnier is that our PUNTER, Berry, kicked two kick-offs; one from the 50 (because of penalty) and one from the 35. Both travelled 65 yards before touching the ground. That's NOT the good part:

He made both kicks with a 3 step drop (3 yards) instead of the usual 9-12 yard run-up a regular kicker uses. THAT is a freakin leg!

He better be our punter over Wing.

Looks like Jags are paying some of his salary too

Just got confirmation Josh Scobee will be paid his full $3.45 million salary in 2015. Steelers and Jags worked out deal that both will pay

We had heard that the holdup in announcing the deal was they were reworking his contract... Im guessing the Steelers sent a sixth instead of a seventh so the Jags would give him a bonus then trade him , lessening his cap hit...

It is a completely ridiculous price of a 6th round for a kicker they don't want and were going to release (they weren't going to pay his 3.4 million. That was likely the whole issue with their "camp kicking competition". Jacksonville is cheap. They want to keep their costs low, make their tv revenue, and make cash. So he would have been available anyway. That said, a sixth probably won't come into play in the time Roethlisberger has left. So it won't matter. The Steelers are putting a lot of eggs in one basket in that time. hopefully their defense can help them out and make the investment pay off.

Dosen't make sense to me either Sask. They could have waited what...two days and had their pick of a couple kickers. As I understand it, Suisy is due back sometime during the season and expected to resume his kicking duties. It's not like we were going into a playoff game in 24 hours. My grandpa used to say...." they got more money than brains "

This isn't a big investment. It's a one year deal for Scobee. Hartley should be dropped, but financially it doesn't hurt the team to put him on IR. Getting Scobee means we used next year's 6th on a kicker. I'll take Scobee over next year's kicking question marks out of college. If Sushi doesn't progress this year, we have a fall back plan with Scobee. Sushi is not playing this year, He's on the IR and as soon as week 1 hits, he will not be able to come off of it this season. Especially since we're poised to use the IR Return on Pouncey.

Suisham is on IR. He is not eligible to play in 2015. He tore his ACL.

Every loss during the season could be the difference between making or missing the playoffs. I'll take an established kicker who I know has been there, done that with game winning kicks and has good numbers kicking at Heinz Field. I really doubt they wanted to count on Suisham coming back off an ACL tear this season, with his already weak leg when his knee was healthy. Yes, it sucks we had to give up a 6th round pick but a good kicker is more important IMO than a guy who more than likely gets cut or lands on the practice squad.

1st- There aint no way in hell that a kicker who tore his ACL (on his planting leg), would be able to return to 'kicking duties' this season. Hell, I am not sure if we'll be comfortable with him in 2016- he never had a big leg to begin with and this probably doesnt help.

2nd- The most common margin of victory in the NFL is 3. Why screw around and be cute? Who wants to sit back and worry about every kick? Now that PAT's have been pushed back, wouldnt a proven kicker be that much more important?

3rd- With our defense in transition, it is invaluable that we have a kicker who can boot the ball in the endzone

A lot of decent kickers come out of college. Sushi was accurate even though he didn't have a lot of distance. Problem here is the second half of the season when the weather gets bad.

"Transistion"? You're being kind, LOL. Several teams use the punter to kick off, I don't see why the Steelers can't consider it.

here is the big thing... while the Efence gets its legs under it, the O will have to play very agressive. if the D cant stop long drives any better than it can stop short ones then you gamble a ton on 4th downs in their territory and rarely settle for short field goals. when you absolutely need to get field goals Id rather have a known commodity who has a big leg than some scrub with questionable skills even outside of Hienz and weather conditions. I also want every drive possible to start at the 20 or further back beause I dont trust the Efense yet

Who says it's a one year deal? Now you're just makin' **** up.

New kicker Scobee relishes opportunity

Happy to have left a franchise that's lost 50 of its past 64 games for one fancied as a Super Bowl contender, Josh Scobee practiced with the Steelers for the first time Tuesday.

“When they told me who I was going to, there was genuine excitement because of the history of this franchise and where the team is going,” said Scobee, the former Jaguars kicker traded for a sixth-round draft choice Monday. “The possibilities for this season are there to win a championship. I am excited to be a part of it. “

Scobee joked about how long it had been since he'd been to the playoffs. He said coach Mike Tomlin laughed when Scobee revealed that his winning kick in the final minute at Heinz Field on Jan. 5, 2008, accounted for his only career postseason win.

“What an awesome opportunity we had to get Josh,” Tomlin said. “Not only what he's capable of, but he's an experienced, established guy. These opportunities don't come along too often for a team in the position we're in at the position.”

Scobee said it won't take long to get accustomed to a new holder and long snapper or become familiar with kicking at Heinz Field.

“This is one of my favorite places to play,” he said. “The excitement and energy in the stadium is unbelievable. I can still remember one moment when a song (“Renegade”) came on, and I never felt the hair stand up on my arms like I did for that one moment.

“I am pretty pumped for that.”

I'm thinking that ultimately Scobee is only here for one year since his price tag is kinda high and we're always up against the cap.

Probably because Brad broken Wing is even worse at it

Who says it's a one year deal? Now you're just makin' **** up.

It's the last year of his 4 year deal, so yeah, it's a 1 year deal with us. http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/pittsburgh-steelers/josh-scobee/ The decision at the end of this year is: Will Sushi be fully able to return to form? If not, we have Scobee in the wings and can offer him a contract before he hits the market.

Though the link I just gave you has him counting $2.5M against the cap, when our cap page has him at $3.425. If it's true and part of the trade with the Jags (that they would pay a portion of his salary), then we could have another $1M come off of the cap.

It almost has to be a 1 year rental or they'll end up with a bunch of dead money for Shisuim who is signed for the next 3 after this.

If Cut Sushi's dead money would be:

2016 $1.71M
2017 $1.14M
2018 $570k

Savings are:
2016 $1.26M
2017 $1.83M
2018 $2.4M

It wouldn't kill the team to cut him if the worst case scenario plays out on his knee.

pre Steeler FO translator.....

"I hate that shithole...the wind blows from 29 different directions, the field resembles a bad parks and rec volunteer project by the 3rd home game, and all those Iron City guzzling moron fans still love that lame *** Styx song...I can't wait to get dinged up and go on IR for the year so I can go play golf....I'm pretty pumped for that"

:poop:

Heinz field isn't as bad as some make it sound. It isn't Candle Stick Park.

That's awesome. Wasn't necessarily a fan of the trade, but a fan of the player. Renegade at a meaningful moment in a meaningful game is something special. I definitely won't worry when he trots onto the field.

People still think the grass is the hurricane bog and that the wind is crazy. Grass is nearly perfect and that closed end zone really curbed the wind on the field.

Ocasionally, I'll hear someone talk about the NOSED football there and how it's the WORST field in the NFL. Like that is a current accounting of the conditions at heinz. ONCE I bring them into how long ago that was and how good it is now, usually they concur. If they need further convincing of a worse field, I bring up gillet field every time. I talk of all the malfunctioning equipment there, bugs all over the locker rooms, visitor's helmets fuzzing out,a real mess there at gillet stadium.......... etc..........

Salute the nation

I remember that game

Josh Scobee saved the game by kicking a 25-yard field goal with 37 seconds remaining and the Jaguars came back after squandering an 18-point lead in the fourth quarter to beat the Steelers 31-29 on Saturday night in an AFC wild-card game that was wild in every sense of the word.
