Let the Mocks begin.......

mock the mock https://www.profootballnetwork.com/2025-nfl-mock-draft-ben-rolfe-february-2025/

as the 1st round fell, I'd be all up for a trade down and draft one of the falling DT/DL Nolen, Grant, Harmon
1.26 Nolen DT (trading down with the Rams)
2.52 Ayomanor WR
3.83 Zy Alexander CB (same as the mock)
3.90 Giddens RB (from the trade down)
4.122 Darius Alexander DL
5.163 Malachi Moore S
7 Round 3 picks, developmental depth at OG/OT, WR, NCB

Yeah those 7 round picks start to round out of for me usually closer to the draft. I like to look at Steelers visits then dig in deeper into the prospects. Add them to who I already like and see if my views change..

Bingo. This is exactly why I want Jalen mildly Milroe...

We missed on Hurts. Can get kicked in the ding ding again...

Them Bama glasses you are wearing are thick, like can’t see through thick.

The only way someone would legit WANT Milroe is if they are a Bama fan…so you get a pass

And I guess it doesn’t matter since the Steelers ain’t going anywhere for 3 years, so why not watch Milroe be the one being stifled under center.

As long as he’s not earlier than the 3rd round, ok

Depends what QBs are still in the board. Dart or Howard? Give me that. Not sure Milroe is going to develop into enough of a pure passer to help a team significantly.

In several mocks (I know fantasy world right) I keep trading out of 21 and moving down a handful of picks then going BPA DL, Dart, WR

I would definitely prefer Dart to Milroe
Probably take Howard over him too

But yeah like you said depends how the board shakes out and which positions fall to us. Can definitely see a 2nd-4th spent on the QB position.

The only times I've taken Howard or Dart were if my real targets were gone, or I traded down so much I had the luxury of taking one of them and not missing out on one of my other targets. I don't think we should take any QB's from this draft. Sign Fields, we have Skylar, resign Allen and roll with that for one year

I think they have to swing. No matter what they do in free agency it is arguably not going to bring about a franchise QB .

Especially long term. Probably not even short term.

So waiting for me is missing out on opportunity.

I think you have to treat QB like you do every other position of need. BPA. If that is at QB you take it.

No guarantees next year you will luck into a QB.

We also can’t let the inadequacies of the HCing position dictate course however tempting it might be.

You are correct, that there is no guarantee that you luck into a QB. But the class is deeper next year. And if you are going BPA, I just don't see how QB is BPA. With how deep this class is with DL, RB, and WR...unless Dart or Howard are there in the fourth, MAYBE in the third, but I still don't see either of them being BPA.

Good point I might see them as BPA you might not.

If Omar and the gang do I hope they pull the trigger.

If they don’t and Mike does…. I hope they don’t.

Plenty of QBs that have potential in this draft.

If we don’t take a QB this year I’m of the opinion that we shouldn’t until Mike is gone as the only reason to not grab one this year is that Mike would be his coach…and if that is the reason I get it, but in that scenario there should be a drafted QB freeze til he’s gone. That scenario is unlikely though cuz he’ll be here for a while and the only rostered QB is Skyler.

We WANT volunteers not prisoners.
Hard to get a good QB to come here willingly though. So we must seek prisoners , and prisoners are found in the draft. With the 53rd pick of the NFL draft…starting your 4 year sentence with the Steelers is___________.

It really cracks me up when people claim next years QB class is deeper/ better when 9 out of 10 people that make that claim can’t even tell me
Which QBs are coming out next year. NIL makes that tricky. So who are all these great prospects next year that you’re sold on (and at this point you can’t guarantee anyone but seniors are even coming out)?

Unfortunately this head coach dictates everything.

I think most have so little faith in this coaching regime that it doesn’t matter who is picked, the QB is going to fail.

I hear yaz on the not waiting, but the value has to be there.

Salute the nation

If I was guessing, people often are hoping to target a particular guy, like a Penn State person wanting Drew Allar or someone hoping we suck bad enough to get the next Manning... imo it wont matter until they have an offense that doesnt handicap qbs... Draft both Marino and Bens clones and they would be benched or ruined by our imbecilic philosophies ...

I'm just expecting a higher pick next season, thus helping to find a new QB

Yeah I get that

Have a feeling Arch may return for senior year if the wrong teams are drafting high or the NIL is right. I’ve seen reports that he’s ringing in as much as 6.5M total this year and he’s only 2-0 so far.
It’s not like a Manning would ever duck a situation/team haha, and his NIL will be off the charts if he actually does anything with TEX.

Allar is ok, I’d put him right there with the 3rd-5th rated in this year’s class which is around where he will be in next year’s class.

Nico might be decent…but if that’s your cup of tea Cam Ward might wet your whistle.

Sanders is a guy I see as the main reason for the disdain towards this year’s class, people assume he’ll go first of the QBs and imho he’s not that great or worthy of that.

The middle of this class seems pretty standard for QB crops, it just lacks that standout prospect. It’s not like the Steelers are drafting 1 overall so it’s kind of a moot point anyways as we are likely 3rd or lower of QBs picked in any draft.

My 2 cents.

This class just reminds me of 2011, or 2014...not as bad as 2022. There might be some guys worth taking a shot on, but they are all projects, even Sanders and Ward. And if we're talking about value, the positions this draft is deep in, are positions we really need help in. At this point it doesn't matter who are QB is. We aren't signing a guaranteed franchise guy, and we aren't drafting one either. Again, it's BPA for me, and it's very hard to make the argument for one of the project QB's we would have a shot at over another player we have a hole for.

If we sign Fields, and we have Skyler, you sign a guy like Alan and there's your 3 QB's for the year. I just don't throw a pick away from this years draft on a QB unless we have traded down a bunch and have a plethora of picks to burn through.

We will likely never draft another “guaranteed franchise guy”…landing Ben the stars just aligned. We had a high pick and the Stains had a massive brain fart.

To me BPA factors but so do holes on a team and one of the biggest holes is QB and the hole is at the most important position on the team. Thus it must be addressed with a swing EVERY year until the guy is found. You certainly don’t get a hit without even swinging.

We have 4 holes that must be addressed in the first 4 imo DL, QB, WR and CB.
DL is deep and will be 1 likely but 2,3 and 4 should be a combo of those other 3 positions.

Maybe free agency will change things up, but as we sit today QB is the largest hole on the team and has been the biggest hole on the team since Ben retired. Ya can’t get gun shy because ya took a swing at KFP and missed. Until we have an answer we must seek solutions to the question.

You can swing as hard and as often as you like, but you're not going to hit any home runs if your technique, stance and foot position (oline and coaching) suck and you go out there without a bat (wide receivers and running back) or a cheap old bat that's split and has chunks missing.

This stuff I don’t pay much attention to because I don’t follow college players.
Has any of these mock drafts ever turned out to be as predicted? Or even close?

I'm not gun shy because of Pickett, I'm just not really sold on any of this years guys being more than a Rudolf type guy. And I think THIS year, we can find that in FA. And you're right, FA is going to change a lot of the draft thinking.

We also are likely to not know who the Steelers ACTUALLY like, leading up to the '22 draft it was Tomlin wants Willis, and then we draft Pickett. I haven't seen a list of visits from the senior bowl, but I think we'll learn more from pro day and combine visits...

Again tho, this isn't what I think THEY WILL do, it's been what I would do and my thinking...

Not exactly, the first five or so picks are pretty much known most years. And you'll hit on a couple picks here and there based on visits, and what pro days they go to and whatnot.

For me, the last 3 drafts have gone completely differently in the first two rounds than I thought. I did like Pickens a lot, and mocked him a lot in drafts I would do. But I'm certainly not going to go all "coach" and claim I knew it all along lol

Yep and Houston decided to stick with David Carr after two horrible seasons.
