If Landry Jones has any chance of beating out Bruce Gradkowski for the backup quarterback job, he is going to do it with a glove on. Jones said that he will wear a glove on his throwing hand at all times now including practice.

“I think I am making the switch,” Jones said. “Last year I didn't want to wear it but the weather and raining all the time and the cold, I threw with it a couple days during practice and really liked it. I didn't see any point switching back-and-forth so I might as well go for it.”

Jones said he never wore a glove while at Oklahoma but did experiment with it in high school a little bit.

Just because we expect miracles from our 4th rd picks

So he will be Michael Jackson-ing it............ nice.

I don't see him on the team long term. He hasn't showed anything. Brandon Kaye might have a real shot at -#3 . He needs to play with fire in his belly.

So, I'm thinking he has a SPARE left hand glove????

Salute the nation

A third string QB would have a big chance to shine?

Not sure he will long term stick, but he hasn't been around long enough to know either way.

Landry Jones looked pretty sharp for one half of pre-season football last year. Then he came out and sucked like a hoover for the second half. That being said, that's 1/2 a game more than whoever this other scrub is listed in the thread, so let's at least wait till he tosses a few passes in pre-season before we go handing him the #3 qb job.

So...he puts the glove on and proceeds to throw two int's in first OTA practice, oops.

Yep, just checked the Steelers secondary interception conversion chart and that equates to 8 picks for Jones, we're doomed!!!

No way. They spent a 3rd round pick on Landry Jones. He would have to be beyond terrible to get cut this year. Especially since Gradkowski is #2 which means they can still carry a struggling Jones for another year.

He was a 4th rounder. They traded this years 3rd round pick to move up and take Shamarko . . .

Still a significant investment in a backup QB. The trade technically may have been for Shamarko but Landry was the reason why the trade was necessary in the first place. Safety was a huge need last year and they took Jones instead of a safety. It forced their hand to trade up for Shamarko.

Actually, I'd have to say it was the exact opposite. He sucked early on and looked much improved later in camp. He seemed to improve a great deal in his first camp.

I meant one half of a game of pre season football, they started him all of game 4 I believe it was, and in the first half you could see why they took him, and in the second half you could see why other teams didn't. :)

Apparently, Jones seems to have taken a step back from last years camp. An article I read this morning said he is having big trouble with accuracy in the OTA's. That won't bode well for him even making the team this year unless they have another option.

Jones seems to have NFL size and arm strength. Also, he killed Bradford's records with 16,646 yards 123 TD's to 52 INT's at Oklahoma. I think he has problems adjusting to the new offense and the speed of the game. This will likely be a make or break year for Jones if he has not progressed with a full year of practice and a second camp under his belt I feel we will only keep two QB's and might draft one pretty early next year depending on Big Ben's contract status.

Who the backup QB is right now is way down on my "give a ****" list. If Ben goes down for a lot of games this year is over quickly.

That's disappointing to hear, especially since he was an accurate QB in college.

Some guys just do not make the transition from college to the pros. There could be other issues here as well. As to seeing back ups at qb lots of preseason play would be just fine, as would be doing mop up duty after the team has a big lead in the 4th, yeah I know but it is at least mathematically possible.

Landry doesnt throw accurately "on the move". When he sets his feet he can be as accurate as any QB around. Its when he gets happy feet that he will struggle some.

With this kid, its gonna be all about "between the ears". He set (more like shredded) records in the state where he played high school ball, broke Bradfords records at OU. So the talent and skill are there.

My hope is that other teams see Landry Jones as a Nick Foles clone and throw some picks at us.

Just because we wasted a pick on L. Jones doesn't mean another team would be that haphazard with their picks, but it only takes 1

Packers have traded away a bunch of backups for good draft picks
Brunell to Jax
Aaron Brooks to NO
Hasselbeck to Seattle
Matt Flynn to Raiders. It was Seattle who actually traded him but the reason Seattle paid big money for him was because he looked good in GB.

The point is, teams are always looking for QBs and it is easy to make a QB look good in preseason. All you have to do is gameplan a bit and any decent QB will shred a preseason defense.

The steelers should try to showcase Landry this year and maybe their phone rings when a QB gets injured.
