He was guest speaker at our University team kick off. One of my former players was being introduced as a first year player. His family graciously invited me. Faulk is a great speaker and was very interesting to listen to. He talked about going 2nd to Dan Wilkenson in the draft. He said he was kinda pissed about not being 1st but in the end he was happy because when he toured Cincinnati the team facilities were a ****hole. Haha that ain't that long ago. Man the Brown family was cheap. He said they didn't even have full time FO people and San Diego State had better practice facilities.

I used to have a pest and weed control company in San Diego. (sold it in the divorce). UCSD was my main client. I got to see the Chargers practice there. Spoke briefly with Bobby Bethard. It was a business contact for the grass treatment.

Marshall Faulk was at SDSU when I was there. Not hard to do, since it took me 13 years to graduate. Fun times. I remember the "Hey UCLA - Faulk you!" tee shirts.

Brown IS cheap. And the culture there IS/WAS really crappy. Ramon Foster tells a story about talking to some of the Bengals players during the offseason. Apparently, when the Bengals lost a game, Brown had the team cooks serve only powdered eggs to those who wanted eggs from the cafeteria.
This is not the way.

My brother was stationed near SDSU and is friends with one of their assistant coaches at the time. It was summer/fall of Faulk’s freshman year and his friend invited us to watch practice and then go out to dinner/drinks later. We went more or less to fill our day. I’ll never forget my brother’s friend just going on and on about Faulk. Not only his physical talent, but his mind for the game. He said he was puzzled why he didn’t go to a bigger school and told us to mark it down, this kid is special and will tear up the NFL one day. This was 1991 before he played a snap in college. I tried following him best I could. He made all kinds of highlights so it was tough. Lol

Faulk said he wasn't heavily recruited but played every position but Oline. Recruiter came to watch a kid on other team at receiver. Faulk scored three TD and shut the kid down at cover corner.

I don’t know what burst pipes had to do with the Rooneys… pipes burst in every old facility..

The Bengals skimped on paying front office and scouting personnel… thats where the cheap label came from…

People called tge Rooneys cheap because they wouldn’t pony up for stupid free agents… in most cases it was the right choice
Even then their FO was part time.

Rooney’s? Who said anything about the Rooney’s? Faulk referred to “the facilities” I’m merely pointing out that both Riverfront and Three Rivers had gone seriously downhill by the 90’s.

The stadium is about fan experience and if the field is poor can effect injury. The day to day is the practice facilities. That is where tge player might have went. This is a dump.

I think this is mostly true.
I think “big schools” did want him, but wanted him at DB/S. None wanted him for RB.
Faulk was dead set on playing RB only in college.
Hence, he went to SDSU.

yeah, but its not like the players couldn't walk half a block and get all the lame chili on spaghetti they could ever need to supplement that.

We were ranked #25 in the polls when he was there.
