Mason O'h Mason could he bring GOLD

I don't care if he stays or goes. My point is merely the strange position that has emerged that MR plays like he has 3 fingers on each hand and couldn't beat a DIII college team.

The glee with which "steeler fans" enjoy crapping on this dude is both irrational amd amazing. No other steeler gets this kind of ridicule.

He is probably one of the better backups in the league, but since the day Haskins signed, MR became a poor man's Mark Malone

Whatever

Maybe it's because I was a lot younger and more naive but I always had a lot more confidence that Magnum Malone would lead the Steelers to victory on any given Sunday than Rudolph.

Yeah, so trade him to some other team at let them pay him $5 million a year to be "at least a good backup." The Steelers have already acquired two guys who can easily meet your rather low expectation...they don't need to keep three.
that is a reasonable amount for good backup who has shown he can win as a starter. I really really don't get the Mason hate. Just for spite I want him to play lights out and win the starting job just to piss everyone off.

If he wins everyone would be pissed alright. That would mean everyone else sucked it up.

No I want him to win outright by being good not the last man standing. I want all the haters to have to admit he was good. THEN we can trade him.

But if he won I don't think they would trade him....

That's the conundum we would be at. But I agree with the other posts, the guy gets some serious hate

No hate here, I wanted them to stick with Mason & Mitch but then they drafted thier H'er apparent.

I think with Sullivan actually coaching these guys up we will see a changed Mason and A way better Mitch. Imagine Mason under totaledge the last two years, I'd think he'd been way better because he wasn't bad in college.

While i support Rudolph, the reality is that, barring injuries, his best value is in a trade this season.. the Steelers just put a first rounder into Pickett and Rudolph is a UFA after the season… lets say by some miracle he wins the starter role and he comes out firing five tds a game for several games… ypu probably still want to trade him before tge deadline… you cant afford to franchise tag him, the risk that he is just a flash in the pan is too great to commit that money to with a first rounder and a completely competent starter on the roster…

Their best bet is to maximize his value and then deal him for whatever they get assuming no injuries and the other three QBs are solid enough… aRudolph deserves a shot somewhere he isn’t fighting ghosts of the past few years

Close to regular season when injuries mount I might look to trade him then. But the compensation has to be worth depleting depth at a critical position. Odds are that time period would bring the most value.

If a 4th was offered or aquired he's be gone. I get where you are coming from but they'll know 1/2 way through training camp so possibly from that point forward.

I think Mason was a perfectly fine backup for Big Ben, but it's evident at this point that Tomlin/Canada want a fleet footed QB to run the new offense. Of the four QBs on the roster...to quote an old Sesame Street favorite..."One of these things just doesn't belong here".

He has that Peyton Manning speed though lol

Rudolph was here for 4 years and the first chance he gets to be the starter they immediately sign a QB to a 26 million 2 year deal and pick a QB in the 1st round. Yeah he is gonna win the starting job. LMFAO

Speaking of Mark Malone, imagine the Steelers using a 1st round pick on a QB that just finished his college career by throwing for 1,900 yards, 10 TDs and 12 INTs!

Looking back at the college stats for QBs before the easy modern era rules the stats were awful for QBs. Fran Tarkenton college stats 2,100 yards 18 TDs 20INTs.

Well I want a billion dollars and Salma Hayek in my bedroom

I'm more likely to get what I want

Despite what some here think of him, Rudolph was consistently ranked in the 6-15 spots as a backup last season… that made him average to above average.

He worked on a quicker release in the off-season . There is no reason to rush into a deal… take him into camp… you protect yourself from injuries at the position with him there… then if Mitch is healthy and holding down QB 1, and Pickett seems ready to be QB 2, and Oladokun looks like a true developmental guy you keep at QB3, sure try to see why Mason brings you back… there isnt much difference if he brings a fifth or sixth, but with a good camp and preseason and a desperate team, you can get a solid mid rounder for a guy with starter experience

I think if Colbert was here, they’d move him to a place he would maybe get a chance to start.. but hopefully Kahn just gets max value

He's sucks and I'd be surprised if we can trade him for a 5th round pick given his cap number.

I don't know abvout that Coach, with Sullivan here and some coaching up things can improve very fast. They will showcase him in pre-season and hope he does very well, if so they will get a bite / trade going. Jacksonville is one destination as they lost a QB and we got a 5th for our 3rd stringer last year from them. I'd bet a 5th or a 4th could be in the works hence that trade time comes.

I've never said that Rudolph isn't a good backup NFL quarterback...that's exactly what he is. But we all know that Trubisky and Pickett are making the team, and one of them will almost surely be the starter...thus, the Steelers don't need to pay their third-string QB that amount of money.

Not sure what you're talking about. I really don't remember but a small handful of posters here who thought Haskins was better than Rudolph. And when I say "a small handful," I mean tiny. Like one guy in particular.

I also think that many Steelers fans have had it with Rudolph, after he capped off years of mediocre play with a ****** performance at home against the winless Lions. It's not "hate," per se, it's just reaching full cognizance of what MR is, and what he'll never be.

I mostly agree with this. Just doesn't seem a lot of money for an experienced backup QB especially with the team not being up against the cap. Like I said previously they can move him if the return is appropriate but I wouldn't move him just to free up money unless they plan on doing something with said money. Remember the Oline is still transitioning. So there is an element of will all three QBs make it through the season healthy? Depleting depth IMO must come with a valid reason.

I hope Mason looks amazing in training camp and then in preseason. I hope it is a tough decision on who the starter ends up being. Mason could have been a decent starter with the Running game we will have this year and the defense back to being able to stop the run. He wont get the chance to prove it here
