Maybe i've been wrong...and hope

Yeah...Noll needed the Steel Curtain and Bradshaw to secure his Super Bowls as well.

Still, so what? He was the coach when they won it. Would you rather he lost?

In no way am I saying that should mean a lifetime appointment as head coach. It should not, Tomlin should be gone. But who cares how he won what he did.
I would say the “who cares how he won what he did” are the masses of fans that realize he is what he is…an average coach that got drug to a SB

I myself only care as I care about watching a decent product. Tomlin just ensures I don’t have to block out half my Sunday to waste watching his “standard”…an endless loop of Groundhog Day mediocrity. Wasting away Sundays with my beloved Steelers is a ritual that I would like to get back to someday provided a decent product is ever fielded again…something more worthy of a consumer’s time.

Alas…winning meaningful games will not happen again under his watch, minus a HOF QB dragging him to another SB coupled with a competent D.

I only care how he won as I can see the path he took to get there and that path is currently unavailable…but the Rooneys are duped by his “standard” and they don’t realize it WAS 95% BB who made his career and the past standard of actually winning playoff games

and the current “standard” SUCKS OUT LOUD

kick the ball off already so we can get that non losing season trophy…the only question is hot out of the gate and then disappointing or come out flat and unleash hell a week too late, what’s your flavor??? Or maybe win a few to start to get our hopes up, suck through the mid season and win a few meaningless games late, mmmm that one sounds tasty

I don't really disagree with any if that, but that isn't what the post was saying I responded to. It stated Tomlin wouldn't have won it without the great defense and Ben. Well, no shiit. He won it. That is all that matters for that year and in that moment. I could care less who built the team, he was the coach. That was a fun year. Beating Baltimore at home in the AFCC is one of my favorite Steeler memories, and I am old enough to remember a lot of the 70s. Don't sully that year, just appreciate it.

If you say he hasn't built a championship team of his own, sure, you'd be right. But to me that is a separate issue from that particular year. No one knows if any other coach would have won with that team in '08. Tomlin did.

Tomlin should not be the coach. I don't know how the hell he survived the Canada debacle, on top of not winning a playoff game since 2016, among other things. But I don't think the frustration with him now and for the last many years should take away from the joy of that year.

Me and I'm hardly the only one.

Why? Why can't you just enjoy the championship year and be done with it? All the other stuff is separate from that.

Because he's a fraud, that's why.

He may be. But enjoy that year for what it was. They won a Super Bowl. All of the other stuff can be discussed without diminishing that Super Bowl year.
I do enjoy that year, as opposed to how some may see it. I'm able to do both: enjoy the championship year and realize what the current truth is. Tomlin is the most exaggerated head coach skill there is. He is a fraud.

That year was pure magic!!! hard to believe it has been 15 years, yet it is one of my best "recent" memories of what Steeler football can look like
thanks again Big Ben...and Silverback mighta done a lil' something too

I remember the writer who wrote about the AFCC against the Ravens for Sports Illustrated called the physicality of the game "seismic." You felt it even watching it on TV. I would have loved to be in the stadium for that one.

When was the last time the Steelers, or the game in general, was physical enough to be considered "seismic?"

You can call me weird for it, but I found myself rooting for Balt. in their last 2 SBs because they basically came from where we lived (AFC North) and brought that physical style of play.

That is beyond weird
Not sure what you call that 😂

I respect them as a worthy adversary and one half of the best rivalry in football, as such I could never root for them…the thought enduces a gag reflex very similar to the one I get by knowing SCJOTPS Mike Tomlin has a lifetime appointment to the post

I get that...in the mid to late 80s I rooted for the Browns a little bit in the playoffs because I liked their style of play. Mind you, those where years the Steelers were sitting at home. But i've always had a hard time with Baltimore cause of Harbaugh. They have never lost to the Steelers according to Harbaugh. It's always some excuse.

I've never really rooted for the Browns, too much history of hatred.

Maybe like me he didn’t root for anyone not named the Steelers.
In games the Steelers aren’t in I generally root for former GA Bulldogs to do well, unless the Steelers need help…I can’t actually get behind and root for a NFL team that is not the Steelers though.

I get this. Lucky for me, football season corresponds to hunting season, so I have an option to not hunting - hunting being the priority.

Mrs. Fan hardly watches football anymore. She can't stand the same-ol-same-ol. I get it. I can't imagine that I am the only guy who saw through Shades quickly. You could just see this nonsense building. Add the Rooney factor, and the dredge of modern Steelers football was easy to predict.
