I just hope he doesn’t mismanage the QB situation with this football team.
Imo putting all things into perspective I think Kenny’s overall performance was encouraging.
The fact that the 10 day period between the Browns loss and Jets loss it was Mitch who took the first team reps and prepared for the stinking Jets not Kenny. And brought in cold the entire team and stadium felt the electricity this guy generates. Hell, my Steeler bar in Houston woke up too. Seriously, you could see the energy with the offense. Kenny took command, you could see it in his body language and the way he Carrie’s himself. He wasn’t afraid to take chances unlike Trubisky who is afraid of making mistakes but Kenny let it air out and that’s what we needed.
I’m not down on him for the interceptions since the first one at the very least could have been knocked away from the Jets defender if Claypool wasn’t such a *****. The second one to Muth Kenny shouldn’t have thrown but he wasn’t afraid to make things happen and you have to expect mistakes but he’ll learn fast. The last one was a go for broke Hail Mary where almost all of those get picked.
The guys pocket awareness, quickness to process, does not hesitate, accuracy, and leadership are so much better than the timid Trubisky.
I say let Kenny play and develop a rapport with these receivers, I’m not expecting a Ben like run in his rookie year, so if we end up 6-11 and secure maybe a top 10 pick but Kenny gets the valuable experience he needs, that’s a good thing.
Next draft we can draft a top LT and maybe a center in round two that will help solidify this OL.
And for the love of God get Claypool on the bench and give Simms a shot at the slot. Claypool sucks and has been a major disappointment so give Simms a shot to develop with Kenny. That first interception Claypool looked bad where he couldn’t beat a 5’8” safety and should be embarrassed by it.
One last point, everyone needs to relax and expect mistakes from Kenny and not make comparisons to Ben’s rookie year. Keep in mind Ben had a much better team and better coaches that what Kenny had here now. Let him play and make his mistakes but he will learn from them and he will make plenty of great plays as well. Take the Bengals script with how they did it with Burrow letting him start his rookie year. Burrow made plenty of mistakes that first year but it aid off big time his second year.
So Tomlin, don’t **** this up by going back to Trubisky. We already know who he is just like Mason, but with Kenny we need to be able to see what we have and I think it’s the franchise QB we thought so don’t screw this up.
