Nationwide dog and pony **** show.

The bottom line is there was an "assult weapon ban" it was universally declared as not effective and the liberal side of this debate almost immediately started down tge "ban handguns" path... already saw this movie... we already know how it ends... its totally disingenuous of that side to act like their agenda is simple registration and just a ban on certain things...

Its just rehashing what happened with full autos and the previous semiauto ban... on to the next irrelevancy

The funniest thing about the "assault weapon ban" the Dems have been touting is that they want to make any magazine that holds over ten rounds illegal, so follow me here. My Taurus pt111 gen2 comes standard with a 12 round mag, while my Glock 37, (45 cal) comes with only a ten round mag, this makes my 9mm illegal but my .45 cal ok. They know nothing about guns, not one damn thing.

Semi auto is an important feature. It makes the weapon easier to aim because you do not have to take your eye off the target to manually pump or use a lever or bolt to chamber the next round.

You have to remember that even though the media would have you believe that only nutjobs up to no good are buying weapons, we know the opposite is true. Most guns are purchased for protection. Many people will be using a gun when they are threatened and ease of use is very important when life and death is on the line.

According to Supe I'm clueless about such things, so better to ask him. Or simply google it, if you're desperate for an answer.

which you are.
you couldn't identify even 1/8 of the guns in your cute little horseshit list, but god damn are you definitely sure that banning those sons of ******* will absolutely and totally make the country one safe ******* utopia from the evilness perpetrated by guns.

kinda like a nationwide Chicago.

That's racist!!!!! Why do all the BLACK ones have to be scary???

you better check your white privilege if you don't understand.
racist

Don't worry, Trump and the GOP ain't taking away your guns.

The assault weapons ban legislature put forward (but never passed) by the Dems a few years ago had a grandfather clause stating everyone can keep their existing guns. The ban in 1994 was on a specific type of weapon, so your hysterics that people want to erase the 2nd amendment altogether and make ALL guns illegal is laughable, as nobody is suggesting that.

I wonder if you're intelligent enough to know that that 1994 Assault Weapons ban banned 18 guns. A mere 18? And that with parts and mods, any gun user could piece together a gun that mirrored the functions of those 18 weapons banned? The ban had zero effect, except that during that time period, overall gun violence increased. This ban drove increases in gun sales throughout the country as well. The NRA thanks you.

You've referred to it as the now defunct Assault Weapons Ban. From now forward, please refer to it as the Now Defunct Assault Weapons Ban of 1994 That was an Utter Failure and Proved to the Nation for 10 Years that Gun Laws Don't Work.

Thanks.

I don't disagree with the message, but I can't figure out if that person is white, black, hispanic, or Australian...

Or Mus...err, I mean British. Let's ban guns like England did.

London murder rate is HIGHER than New York's for the first time ever after TWELVE killings in just 19 days
A man has died after being stabbed to death on Sunday morning
The victim, thought to be 20, was stabbed after leaving a bar in Wandsworth
This marks the 12th murder in 19 days as London overtakes NYC's murder rates

London's murder rate has overtaken New York City's for the first time ever as the twelfth person has been killed in just 19 days.

February marked the first month in history books that London had more murders than the American city with a total of 15 homicides. Out of the 15 killed, nine were aged 30 or younger.

In March, there were 22 murders, which is likely to match if not beat out New York's numbers.

The murder epidemic continued on Sunday when a man in his twenties was fatally stabbed after leaving a bar in Wandsworth, marking the 12th person to be murdered in London in 19 days.

Police have launched the latest murder investigation in the death of the unnamed young man who was stabbed to death on Easter Sunday.

He suffered a fatal stab wound at around 1:10am on Sunday, after leaving a bar in Wandsworth, south west London.

Met Police attended the scene along with the London Ambulance Service. Despite the best efforts of officers and paramedics, the man was pronounced dead at the scene just before 2am.

Formal identification awaits and a post-mortem examination will take place in due course, but the victim's next-of-kin have been informed.

A 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently in custody at a west London police station.

According to a report by the Sunday Times, New York City's murder statistics have decreased by 87 per cent since the 1990s.

Meanwhile, London's rate has grown by nearly 40 per cent in just three years, not including deaths caused by terrorist attacks.

Although New York last year had nearly double the number of murders than London, experts are concerned the gap is steadily closing.

Officials are concerned about the uptick in fatal stabbings, fearing there is a dangerous surge in knife crime.

Last year there was a total of 80 fatal stabbings in the capital - the most in almost a decade. And official figures show that 2017 was the worst year for knife deaths among young people since at least 2002.

Forty-six people aged 25 or under were stabbed to death in London, up by 21 compared with the previous year, according to police figures.

Detective Chief Inspector Mark Cranwell said on Sunday: 'Sadly, another family has been left devastated with the tragic death of a young man from an act of violence.

'We are appealing to anyone who was in the area to come forward.

'We know that the victim left a bar in Garratt Lane, SW18 at 01:05hrs and then seven minutes later he was found on Ellerton Road at the junction with Burntwood Lane.'

The victim's death comes as London's murder rates have overtaken New York City 's numbers for the first time ever.

The man's death on Sunday marks the 12th murder in London in 19 days.

Lyndon Davis, 18, the youngest to have been killed in March, was found suffering from a single stab wound in Chadwell Heath, east London on March 14.

Joseph Williams-Torres, 20, was killed the same evening as he sat in a stationary car in Essex Close, Walthamstow.

Russell Jones, 23, was ambushed outside shops near Ponders End station, in Enfield and stabbed and shot to death.

Father-of-two Tyrone Silcott, 42, died from knife wounds on March 18 after a St Patrick’s Day party.

It is alleged the car mechanic got into a row over two girls at a party in Homerton and was attacked.

Ban assault knives now!!!!!

12 in 19 days? ****, that's lunch time numbers in Memphis and not even "after the first sip of coffee" numbers in Chicago, the grand utopia of gun-free zones.
*both are Democratically controlled cities, btw.

According to Supe I'm clueless about such things, so better to ask him. Or simply google it, if you're desperate for an answer.

Assault weapon is a term used in the United States to define some types of firearms.[1] The definition varies among regulating jurisdictions, but usually includes semi-automatic rifles with a detachable magazine and a pistol grip, and sometimes other features such as a vertical forward grip, flash suppressor or barrel shroud.[1][2] Some firearms are specified by name.[3] At the time that the now-defunct Federal Assault Weapons Ban passed in 1994, the U.S. Department of Justice said, "In general, assault weapons are semiautomatic firearms with a large magazine of ammunition that were designed and configured for rapid fire and combat use."

I have arthritis in my trigger finger, Tibs, and cannot pull the trigger very fast at all any more.

Does that mean I would still be able to buy an AR-15 even with the "ban," since that rifle is simply not "configured [for me at least] for rapid fire"??

Meanwhile in Baltimore...

Cope will be along soon to tell us Baltimore isn't that violent. Sorry bruh, fellow Marylander here myself. Facts are facts.

Viva La Democratic Rule!!

What's causing Baltimore's population loss? It's no mystery

ith the U.S. Census Bureau reporting yet another year of population loss for the city, it doesn’t take an investigator to determine the causes.

The city’s scary record of 343 homicides in 2017 affirms the city’s well-known reputation as a dangerous place to live. Even if 2018 has fewer homicides, it doesn’t take a fortune teller to predict that this year’s homicide rate will be high. Until the city substantially reduces its homicide and other crimes rates, people will continue to view the city as dangerous and be reluctant to stay or move here.

The city’s outrageous property tax of $2.248 per $100 of a property’s assessed value is more than double of its surrounding jurisdictions: Baltimore County, $1.10, and Anne Arundel 90.7 cents. The city’s burdensome property tax on homeowners explains why the city has more renters than homeowners. The city’s high income tax is 3.2 percent, the maximum allowed by law. Baltimore County’s is 2.83 and Anna Arundel’s is 2.56. The city’s tax message is clear: Move here and pay higher taxes. People have figured out how to avoid the city’s taxes and still enjoy the city. They live in surrounding counties and take reasonably priced ridesharing services into the city.

The city’s public school system is a disaster. Last year, some of the schools had zero students who were proficient in math. A couple of months ago, a few city public schools had to temporarily close because of heating problems. If anyone thinks a family would move to the city or stay in the city because of its public school system, then they have another thing coming. The city’s public school enrollment is on the decline. Families are moving to the surrounding counties so they can send their children to decent schools.

The city’s aged infrastructure is terrible. The city’s random water main breaks, spontaneous sinkholes and desperately needed road work means the cash-strapped city faces many repairs. With costs lurking to fix its dilapidated infrastructure, the money to fund these repairs will either be taken from other services or city residents will have to pay higher taxes.

The mayor and the large part-time City Council are fiscally irresponsible. They accepted a raise in December, even though the city faces major financial troubles. The mayor gets paid around $180,000, the city council president $119,000, the City Council vice president $77,000, and the 13 others each $69,000 — plus all have benefits and all have paid support staff. In 2007, the City Council passed a law that entitles elected officials to receive an automatic 2.5 percent raise if the city budget provides money for union employee raises. The elected officials’ automatic raises and the city’s declining population mean the cost of government increases on those taxpayers who remain in the city. The City Council should repeal the 2007 law and reduce its size because it cannot be immune to population decline.

Baltimore’s elections do not change the direction of the city. In the 2016 city general election, the mayor and the council members all promised change, yet the city is in the same or worse shape since the election. Because city government is controlled by one political party and elected officials have no term limits, voters have little options other than to vote with their feet. The City Council should enact term limits and hold nonpartisan elections.

The city needs bold ideas, so I offer mine. The city should work with the Maryland legislature to turn City Hall and the Clarence M. Mitchell Jr. Courthouse into state museums by using both private and public funding. Both buildings have historic feels that are perfect for museums. This would inject more tourism into downtown and bring more people to the area. The city could relocate City Hall and the courthouse to already existing buildings in areas that need development. The city should strongly advocate for a university to locate on Howard Street and run it along the light rail tracks. Students could take advantage of the light rail system. The city should create retirement community zones around hospitals for the elderly. The city could look to Sun City, Ariz., as a model.

As more people move to the surrounding counties, the Maryland Legislature should re-evaluate the city’s borders. It floated an idea two decades ago about merging Baltimore County and city. This would work if the county had control. The county would provide better leadership and management. The Maryland legislature could also revoke the annexation of 1918 and return parts of the city to the better managed Baltimore and Anne Arundel counties. This would offer those areas more resources and better leadership.

If the city doesn’t fix its crime, tax, public school and leadership problems, next year’s census report will be the same.
