No losing seasons

Without rooney stepping in to tell them what the "group decision " was going to be, we dont have Ben

Then why was there a discussion if Rooney made the call? I know you can't answer that because it doesn't fit you agenda. I'm sure without Colbert we don't have Brown, Heyward, JuJu ETC.. So there's that.

no, switzer had a losing season in year 4.

I never said he didn't. He had 1.. ONE bad year in 4. He didn't get to play the browns that year so he lost 2 more games than Tomlin did in his 2 down years.

fan flames:

Cowher had a losing season 4 years after his super bowl loss.

2 losing seasons in a row.

Yet he was still 12-9 in the playoffs. But again, if being just better than mediocre or average is your goal then HOORAY for Tomlin not having a losing season!!

2 losing seasons in a row.
Bill Belichick 3 straight losing seasons to start his coaching career.
Chuck Noll won 12 combined games over his first 3 seasons.

I guess Mike Tomlin is better than them?

there was a discussion, for some insane reason, and rooney said, we are drafting Ben. Maybe, the team owner wanted them to reach the right conclusion on their own. Discussion should have been "we need a decent qb and one is on the board. Gee, what should we do. Oh, i dont know. Take a tackle. Well, that is a good idea, lets think about that for no ******* reason at all. I mean we haven't had a good qb since bradshaw left. Tbis team will win a SB with all these other players so it doesn't really matter who we draft. Hey any punters available? A punter might be just what we need to put us over the top."

wouldn't say so.

all 3 coaches needed a franchise quarterback.

but somehow Tomlin is penalized for that.

Better than Bellichek? Sure. We know how good bill was before cheating. I dont think he, suddenly, figured out some magic coaching formula that doesn't involve cheating.

Yet anyone that says Cowher was a better coach because of how well we did without a franchise QB, Cowher gets penalized for not having one.
How many coaches can say they've coached 3 different QBs to AFCCG? How many coaches have coached their team to the Super Bowl with two different QBs.

because that is what a good LEADER does. He gives the group his praise. Think he really wanted to say "These ************* wanted to draft a goddamn long snapper when we had a potential franchise QB ready for the taking. Why these dumbshits wanted a long snapper, and I believe they even discussed taking a backup linebacker - you know, since Dick's defense takes so long to ... "master" baffles me. I'm too old to deal with this cockamamie bullshit and told them in no certain terms that we're drafting Ben."

Do you think that would have bruised some egos?

A more comprehensive and correct stance would be to simply say we had discussions, but steered it back towards the QB.

oh, ****. nevermind. Ben was going to be the pick, no matter what.

remember this the next time Ben is hurt, Dobbs or the reindeer are in and someone says "this is a glimpse of life after Ben"

Yeah, whatever floats your boat. The fact that dozens of former players speak to the rigid and disciplinarian regime in NE compared to other places shows how different it is in NE. Everyone can keep crying over spilled milk and blame the Patriots for everything shy of World hunger or maybe they can accept that Bellichek really is a good coach that gets the most out of the players he has available. Everyone that keeps crying about the Patriots cheating sounds no better than the Seahawks fans crying about the SB.

Do you remember that play, other than it being a pick six? Kemo got has fat *** shoved 6 yards backwards right into Ben as he was throwing the ball.

The one when the OL was pushed back into him? What about it?

Chris Kemoeatu was drafted in 2005.
He was drafted in the sixth round.
Head coach in 2005?
Bill Cowher

I dont disagree that Belichick is a good coach.
My argument is centered exclusively around the cheating aspect. Which is there and is undeniable since it is proven over and over.

Yup just what I thought a lot of conjecture and non-sense because you don't know what happened. Rooney didn't say "We are drafting Ben". That's YOUR take on what happened but you were not there. I know you think you know what happened but that doesn't make it true. So stop trying to put words in Rooney's mouth that he didn't say but you wish to hell he had said to make you feel better.

Well, except, for having been caught cheating. TWICE. Once so bad the league destroyed the evidence rather than let the extent be known. If that evidence hadn't been so damning it would not have been destroyed.

What are those former players and coaches gonna say? "Yeah, i participated in a massive scandal and inwant to ruin my career and reputation by telling everyone." In fact, most players dont even have to know about the cheating. Brady only has to know

But, yeah, that is the same as whining about a could of ref calls.

The "group decision " **** is PR. Everyone knew, at the time what happened. We all know it now. Some people don't like it, but deep down, they know it.

No one knows exactly what the hell was said in that room, but after SD took Eli, the Giants were going to take Ben, they liked him more than Rivers. SD wanted OSI as part of the trade if NY took Eli, Giants said no, and were planning to take Ben. Either way, the thought was there was no way Ben or Rivers was going to make it past Washington, Cleveland, Detroit, Atlanta, Jacksonville, and Houston, so the talks of Andrews and Lee Evans was another name being already discussed when Ben fell to them.

Why hadn't the genius Tomlin replace such a horrible player? Hell he sure didn't have to worry about drafting QBs. Tells you a lot about a coach when 4 ******* years later he is still hanging on to the former coaches trash players because he doesn't know how to replace them.

I'm talking about before we knew Ben was available. They don't sit there and wait until it's their turn then start discussing their picks.
They figured all 3 QBs would be gone, after 2 went in the top 4, no one thought the 3rd would make it to 11, so I'm sure they were discussing other choices to take at 11 thinking no way in hell those 6 teams in front of them would pass on Ben.

Why would he replace a cowher player. Those guys won a SB all by themselves!

1. I've never proclaimed Tomlin a genius. I do call him by another name, mainly to irritate people who hate on the man for simply breathing and being the coach of The Pittsburgh Steelers.
2. Tomlin was hired in 2007. He inherited a lot of good players. Some great. The system he waltzed into didn't need much done to it. A tinker here or there. Too much tinkering would **** up the dynamics. As such...
3A. 2007 draft - Cameron Stephenson was drafted. 2008 - Tony Hills. 2009 - Craig Urbick and AQ Shipley. 2010 - Maurkice Pouncey and Chris Scott
3B - He didnt sit on his OL laurels and was addressing it as need be.
4. 2010 had Willie Colon on IR from game 1. Max Starks from game 9 on.
https://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/pit/2010_injuries.htm

So the man was replacing TWO OL starters and managed to get to the ******* Super Bowl. Let alone, losing Pouncey for the playoffs. And still - still managed to get to the Super Bowl, where he used, as you put it "a trash player" on the line.

Yeah, he has no goddamn idea what he's doing. just looking at his dick reflection in his cool shades.

Yep, and Tomlin used him as a full time starter from 2008 thru half of 2011.
He even had to use Cowhers bad draft picks 😀
